http://www.adelaideunited.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=36628Reds ‘mo’ it up for men’s healthFriday, 12 November 2010 Travis Dodd and Paul Reid show off their mos. © AUFC Travis Dodd and Paul Reid have put the razor away for a month in aid of the popular charity event Movember. The two Reds stars have joined men around the country to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer and male depression. Funds are committed to men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation. It is the third straight year Reid has grown and groomed a mo in November, and the midfielder, who is enjoying arguably his best season with the Reds, is more than happy to take part. “This is the third time I’ve been part of Movember. Even though my wife is not that keen on the mo, it’s a bit of fun and great to be able to help raise awareness for a worthy cause.” “It’s great that Travis (Dodd) has got into the spirit of it as well, it’s also a cause he is passionate about, so we encourage everyone to give generously and to all of the guys out there, don’t be afraid to have a go at growing a moustache up until the end of November.” Hyundai A-League sponsor Cool Ridge is again supporting Movember this season and will be dedicating Week 16 (26 Nov – 1 Dec) of the Hyundai A-League, which sees the Reds play host to Gold Coast United on Friday 26 November, to raise awareness of men’s health. As part of their support to the cause, Cool Ridge will be donating 5 cents from each sale of Cool Ridge Spring Water to the cause. It is still not too late to take part or donate, so visit www.getitout.com.au for more information. There is also a Facebook link at www.facbook.com/getitout.I am also Movembering again this year, as Jessesdad can attest ;)

I've got to vent my frustration. Four weeks ago I was among the many who was secretly praaising Rini, although I still had the evil voice in my head saying " Check out his record - sacked from FC Twente and then led a team from near the top to the bottom "
Now after United has conceded 11 goals and scored four in the last 4 games the whiff of a champiopnship is fading. Questions such as:- Why has Rini put Watson, who filled in abley for Mullen when the latter was with the Olyroos, on the bench? Why does he play Barbiero there? Why is Boogard's injury still listed as 3 weeks, when 10 weeks ago it was listed at 5? Will the new owners sign a decent defender?
??????? I'm really pissed off, and General you may want to take the " Shexy " out as we're no longer playing it. I knew that if we defended like we did in the 1st half v Perth, we'd be put to the sword against a team with a reasonable striker, and so it was even though it was an AM in Jeffers.
No Reid against Heart - what will Rini do? ( Keenan? ) After this w/e results a must win for us.

... I heard that Watson has been ill recently, so maybe there was a fitness doubt about him.
My concern over Saturday's match is that there was a distinct lack of passion and commitment from the Reds. Newcastle played with passion and commitment; we didn't. They wanted to win every ball, they wanted to score... we didn't have that mindset, it is almost like we are slipping back into last season's attitude.
Of the four goals we have scored in the last four games, a defender has scored three of them! What is happening to our strikers and midfielders? So-called star player Flores has not really inspired the side for the last few games... he is too easily intimidated for a player who is supposed to be big and strong as well as skillful; and he does too much of the theatrical waving his arms around, which lets opposing players know that he is rattled.
Eugene Galekovic has let in nine goals in the last four games (three, if you take away the Perth game). This is not like him, and he is noticably in poor form. I can't remember him ever letting in as many goals over a short period, even last season.
Coolen is gravely handicapped by the lack of depth in the squad, but he has to inspire the players to fight harder....by that I don't mean do a Perth Glory, and run up seven yellows and a red every match, but show genuine, honest commitment to getting something out of every match.
And, yeah, change the name of this thread, it is putting people off from posting here!!

The Barbiero experimant at RB has failed dismally. I could have told you that after the Perth game if anyone cared to listen. he has no sense of positioning there at all. I don't understand either why Watson isnt the immediate obvios replacement as he played the first 2 months of the season there reasonably well. he had one poor game against Victory which was just after they resigned him and he's now been dropped. Even if he was sick for the Brisbane game its been a while since then.
Then to stick reid at RB and put watson in the midfield? what the fuck is going on? Coolen seems to be losing it a little if you aske me..
Oh and Flores REALLY REALLY needs to harden the fuck up. The opposition have worked him out. Yes sometimes he is genuinely fouled but the way he protests and waves his arms about after EVERY single time he is challenged is NOT good. He needs to harden up quick smart as he will be given no quarter for the remainder of the season. Opposition coaches have worked us out too I believe. If you run at our defense we shit ourselves basically. we DESPERATELY need Mullen back and I would swap Robbie for Boogaard in a flash and i know Coolen will too.
On a funny note fyfe may end up our top goal scorer this year!!!! ahahaaa
PS I agree tiome to change the name of the thread back to just Adelaide Supporters etc

Newcastle were fired up and pissed off and took the game to us from the get go.
You'd think after 10 straight losses to Victory, a humiliating 4 nil loss to Brisbane and a rough encounter with Perth would see us fired up and pissed off too?

Jeffers is what killed us in that game - once he went off NJs went back to playing their ineffective brand of football again. I think our biggest threat to the Premiers Plate this season is not being able to secure at least a point. BR have managed to not lose even if they aren't going to win and we just aren't being able to match that - I think the lads need to have a run of home games to get some confidence back. But I agree about the positioning of players, not sure what Coolen is trying to do - I know that Watson and Keenan are both midfielders, but Watson is our next best RB and Keenan is a left sided player. Coolen should be using Shin more, I think he is very lively and a much more useful player to bring on than Ramsay.

Yeah, the speculation has been going around for the last week that he's heading to Busan I'Park, a decent K-League club. But until the club releases any information about it, we can't be 100% sure the Shin In-Seob listed on the K-League draft website is the same Inseob Shin we have here. Still, while he's here, Rini should be using him more off the bench as an impact sub like he did against the Victory. If that shot had been a few inches to the left, we'd all be singing his praises right now. :(

No it is Shin, (though my only confirmation is Val) and he has been granted an early release to nominate for the draft and has been picked up. We should still be using him though! Also lots of good stuff from the new ownership in interviews on the ABC (lots of them) and in the Advertiser. They are doing their best to win over the SANFL community. I am more and more happy with them. With regard to the reservations we had re social facilities etc, they are looking at securing a licensed premises with a gaming license as well for the club and are really holding out the hand to the FFSA community. They have even offered to go and see any player in the state recomended to them as they think their needs to be a greater emphasis on SA players in AUFC.

If we had a dedicated licensed premises for away matches, run by the club, then that would be awesome.

A team full of South Australian's would not have made last season any less painful either. Give us a social club, give Rini an open cheque book and STFU. Please

Oh, and one of the reasons they gave for this (checking out recomendations) is how few elite players actually come out of SASI or other 'elite' development pathways.

The only two players who stood out for me were Monterosso and Shin, the latter showing us how much he really has matured in the game since joining us last year. It was a shame Valkanis subbed Shin off quite early - not sure if it was due to injury or whatnot.
One player I NEVER want to see wearing a red shirt again is Matthew Mullen. What a fucking disgrace! No drive. No skill. No vision. No first touch. Nothing. It's an embarrassment to the captain's armband.

Yeah Shin could hold his head high. Montorosso is a class poacher, although his second goal was neat footwork and ability to turn defenders inside out.
I suppose Valkanis being a no nonsense defender was more concerned with defence. I mean AIS's first goal the keeper called for it and then stopped - WTF! Then all the striker had to do was beat a static keeper.
Aren't the AIS lads years younger? And to be beaten by four goals at home! Valkanis and Costanzo have their work cut out. Heard a gosspy rumour that Dane Milanovic left & joined Roar because of Matt Mullens selection for this years squad

Matt Mullen may be a nice bloke, but he's just not good enough. I wouldn't be surprised about those rumours at all.
Even if our main aspect was defence, the boys surely didn't show it yesterday. At times, the AIS boys sliced us open so easily. And just as you said, they are years younger!
Hopefully things turn around in the next game.

M.Mullen and Monterosso are in their third season in the Youth team... they should surely have moved up by now. Monterosso, despite all his goals never looks like getting a run in the A League; Shin could never establish himself in the A League side; whilst M.Mullen sounds like he is getting worse rather than improving.
I can't see the purpose of the Youth team... it is not developing talent for the A League side... does it just exist for its own sake?

I agree, what are the youth team for? We get guys from the Victorian state league. Montorosso and Costa must be peeved, ( altough they must get more $$$ for being part of the A squad )
The only use I can see for the Youth team is to give 'em a run around in summer so their strong and fit for the winter super league.
I spose it's insurance for AU in case a real diamond is uncovered.

Just came across this accouncement: AdelaideNow wrote: Another Adelaide United scalp as team manager sacked Val Migliaccio From: AdelaideNow November 22, 2010 1:14PM THE mood should have been upbeat after Adelaide United's win over Melbourne Heart at the weekend but instead Reds players were sombre after another servant had been axed today. Adelaide's long-serving team manager Ryan Peremiczko this morning addressed the squad at Kidman Park after training. Peremiczko told the squad that he had been made redundant immediately. Peremiczko was a staff member since 2005 - the inaugural A-League season - after he made the move from the defunct South Australian Soccer Federation. Sacking a Team Manager and then giving that role to our Football Director has got to be one of the most strangest things i've ever heard.
So Petrillo, who is responsible for ALL things football... is now lumped with making sure every player's jerseys, socks 'n jocks are washed, delivered and accounted for on match day... not to mention ensuring everything is running smoothly, signing off on any paperwork and general admin, making sure medical supplies, drinks etc are in supply...
I see a resemblance with Qantas here...
What next... the players will have to take their jerseys home and wash them too?
