You'd think that!
One of the most frustrating things about supporting the Reds since 2003 has been their in-ability to take that ultimate step to getting the toilet seat......or the Asian Champions cup..

I was apoplectic with delight when they beat Kashima @ Hindmarsh and then beat Bun......... ( that Uzebek mob ) and fully expected some resistance away to Gamba. Then 2 years later to lose at home in extra time in virtually the last minute! To say nothing of MV's hold over us.
Then I go and get my hopes up this year as we went 11 games undefeated........It just pisses me off big-time, and although I think Muscat should've been banned for life several years ago I did admire the mentality he inspired in the MV players aound him.

Yeah - its just Football, but you know what Bill Shankly said?

However, I know I have to concentrate on something else and just suck it up, because I also realise Shankly wasn't really an academic philosopher.

It would be nice to get another blog out of Kym, I wonder how he is travelling after being ill...

It may require my banishing from Reds supporters, but I'd like to draw with Victory on Friday night, then smash 'em in the final!!

Of course I could hope that Cold toast lose their next 2 games, but a draw would still work for us.

Get fit Cassio. Who do you see taking his place? My money's on Pantelis

Correct, the club won't approve any banners on the issue. We were planning on getting one in but the majority of the Red Army are against it as they feel as though they are supporting the Victory.

Yeah I'm disappointed as well that we couldn't work on something, I think it would have sent a pretty clear message, given the rivalry between the clubs. Unfortunately most of Adelaide aren't open to new ideas.

Just got my finals tickets. Damn ticket system stuffed up again although I went down to a outlet and had no dramas. Anyone know why tickets are reserved for this match. Seems a little stupid especially with the eastern stand being cat a.

All tickets are reserved. Both east and west stands are Cat A, North and south are Cat B. Obstructed view tickets are near the fence lines.

In my opinion, the FFA fucked it up big time by making ALL tickets reserved. They'll get less of an attendance than they were hoping for, since the beauty of the GA tickets at Hindmarsh was that you could sit pretty much anywhere you wanted with mates etc.

I'd give my vote to Cassio as "players' player"...

Amazing how the careers of Spagnuolo and Ontong have come to a screeching halt after leaving United. Spags is now an undistinguished bit part player at Fury and struggles to make any sort of impact. I don't know what happened to Ontong after leaving United, but he was quite mediocre and I'm surprised he won any sort of award whilst he was here.

I'm sorry? Hindmarsh is reserved seating? WTF are they thinking? Especially when you can only buy 3 tickets today and 2 tomorrow prior to the free for all. I need to revise down my estimate for attendance. Expect about 10k now, FFA with no idea about how our attendance works.

The pricing is a bit ridiculous as well. Champions League tickets were about the same price as league matches, I don't see why this warrants such a steep climb in price. It's gonna be a shit crowd for sure.

Adelaide United
North Adelaide Football Club would like to provide further details of it’s involvement with Adelaide United Football Club. Australia wide more and more Clubs are seeking extended associations with other sporting entities whether those entities are in the same sport, a different code or simply a different season. The strategies behind such decisions include the following:
Extended membership data bases which in turn are of strong commercial appeal to sponsors.
The potential of linked sponsorships increases the prospects of securing increased numbers. Sporting related sponsorships have suffered an alarming world wide decline in recent times.
Cross fertilization of management styles and sporting trends in fitness and rehabilitation
Potential savings in duplicated administration and sports services.
Satisfies Club Constitutions by the promotion of sport and good fellowship between members of a Club and members of other Clubs
Improved commercial returns
There are many examples of sporting organizations with relationships outside their immediate field:
Several SANFL Clubs have associations with either Netball Clubs, Cricket, Korfball and other codes
Encore (SANFL Catering Division) is a contracted supplier to the South Australian Football (Soccer) Federation
The SANFL and SACA are now involved in discussions for the proposed Adelaide Oval Development
Port Power and the Thunderbirds
Newcastle Soccer and Rugby League
And the list goes on
Now to Adelaide United and North Adelaide’s involvement:

Why is the Club involved?
It is about opportunity. North Adelaide was invited to provide a management service to the new owners of Adelaide United. The owners include Robert Gerard, Greg Griffin and Dr Richard Noble who have had long and trusted relationships with our Club. It is a compliment to our Club that they were insistent on North’s role despite initial opposition from the Football Federation of Australia (Soccer) and the AFL/SANFL
The Club is seriously concerned with two major issues which have the potential to impact on our financial sustainability
Gaming Legislation
The changes mooted at Federal Government level will severely reduce the future income from our two commercial operations
SANFL Distributions are only guaranteed for 2011 and 2012. Our Club believes that significant reductions are highly likely.
If either or both of the above eventuate we will have no option but to cut football expenditure and reduce staff to a sustainable level. As such it would be financially irresponsible not to consider all commercial opportunities.
What is the risk?
North Adelaide and Adelaide United are separate business entities
North Adelaide Football Club does not have a financial involvement
North Adelaide Football Club has been retained through its CEO to provide a management service which includes restructuring the Adelaide United Business model and sourcing, establishing and managing a new social facility. The Club is remunerated for same.
Our involvement does not compromise any part of North Adelaide’s business or football operations
What is the up side?
Potential sponsorships
Potential memberships
Potential savings in fitness and medical services due to the different seasons
Management fees from the establishment of a new social facility
Summary
We are strategically well placed to both enjoy football success and secure our financial future. Much of that is due to our commitment to plan and consider future business opportunities. Without that commitment it is highly unlikely that today that our business operations would include the Northern Tavern and Grand North. The Adelaide United opportunity is exactly that, an opportunity, one which we were fortunate to be offered. The Board has the power of veto in this matter and can withdraw if it deems the returns or relationship is not satisfactory.

Thanks Coverdale, interesting to read the way that the relationship is being kept at arms length by both clubs. I actually find that stance very reassuring.

This + fringe Opening night (attended by thousands of families and more thousands of young adults(prime targets of soccer clubs id assume?) will mean i doubt more than 10,000 will show up

Will be one of the lower crowds of the season i reckon...

i could be wrong and have been before I spose...

I cant believe they scheduled it on the same night as the fringe opening night though. They had their pick of dys for once and still cocked it up

ive had plans for weeks for Friday night and am actually considering not going to the game. Ive missed 2 games this whole season and even travelled to melbourne but i am strongly considering it...

My rationale: if we lose ill wish i didnt beak my plans for a shit loss to wellington at home and if we win we are gaurunteed an even bigger game the week after here of more importance against a better team...

I dunno but i reckon im gonna pike. Feel free to call me soft ;)

You just can't win.

People say the success of Adelaide United's crowds is because of the 'Friday Night' effect, we have consistent Friday night fixtures and everyone knows that Friday night is United's night.

So we have a final on a Friday, and people still complain.

If the game was Saturday people would complain that it clashes with soccer trials late in the afternoon, you can't win with some people.

We have our Friday night, I'll be there regardless of price and reserved seating, sure that is shit but to complain that we are clashing with the Fringe on our night, Friday night, is ridiculous.

Show up or shut up, IMO.
