I don't consider our solid/structured defence is parking the bus, but because our attack is not working yet everything hangs off not conceding and it appears we are often totally defensive when viewed by output alone.

We look to build creatively and consistently out of our back line all the time. Often it works to bring the ball through high presses and weight of opposition numbers - then it just struggles to find the goal.

We do not often hang 7 or 8 players back there without moving up, and we don't boot the ball clear every time things get hairy.

Our many unconverted first half opportunities across all our games collectively suggest we are trying to score but doing that part badly. But we are not tortoising around our goal - we are defending it in numbers then pushing out.

Many unconverted first half opportunities?
I don’t think Brisbane create very many first half opportunities at all.
in fact in the last game, there was only one chance created in the first half (McDonald shot wide from a pass from Brown). In addition, this was one of only three times that Brisbane actually got the ball into the Perth penalty area in the first half. And Reddy did not touch the ball with his hands at all during the first half, all of his five touches (excluding goal kicks and free kicks) were using his feet from back passes.

Yes many. Say we create on average 2-3 chances in each first half (and that is not being over positive). We have played 18 games so that is somewhere between 36 and 54 opportunities which were largely unconverted. So yes, taken collectively we have failed to convert a large number of goal opportunities across all the games (which is all I was saying).

We are trying to create and most often fail to succeed - but we are trying and successfully creating opportunities and that is not parking the bus.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

2 - 3 chances a half, that equals 40 mins of parking the bus and 5 mins of attacking?

Faced with overwhelming evidence that Fowler can coach, that the team is better than expected, and individual players are performing better than expected and are certainly not embarrassed in the A-League, there’s a couple of choices for our local trolls.

1/ Admit they may have been over zealous in their early criticisms of Fowler and his signings and, albeit begrudgingly, acknowledge they are performing better than they expected.

or

2/ Carry on regardless and nit-pick over style of play and what bus route Fowler’s following. This relies on ignoring objective things like recent results and the table as it stands and focusing on subjective things that can hardly be measured

There’s a bit of humility required in (1) but there’s more sport in (2).

It would seem sport is the name of the game for some. (and no, this comment is not aimed at fellow Roar fans with disagreements over style etc. )

The only plus to all this troll-like activity is it’s added spice to an otherwise fairly dull season for the HAL overall.

Every Roar game is eagerly anticipated by trolls hoping the next result will provide more ammunition while (most) Roar supporters optimistically hope it won’t.

It’s marketing Jim, but not as we know it - can’t wait for Sunday arvo with another barge travelling contingent heading down south. Bring it on, this seasons going to be over before we know it.

No team in this salary capped league should be as defensive and boring as they Roar currently are....if there was the threat of relegation then fair enough.

So easy to forget all the trying that we also did that did not result in opportunities. Let's not completely ignore the point I was making ;)

I went back to the match blog:

3 minutes - O’Shea through ball to MacDonald cut out in edge of area.

4 minutes - MacDonald gets behind the defence but is disposed by Tomislav Mrcela

5 minutes - Hinger gets behind the defence but the cross is intercepted

6th minute - corner to Roar

6th minute - blocked shot from Jay O’Shea

10th minute - Hingert offside with only the keeper to beat

16th minute - “Brisbane are playing very compact and leaving no space in between the lines, but when the midfield presses they move up as a unit, which shows the work being done on the training ground” (sic)

21st - McDONALD caught narginally offside with inky the keeper to beat (Pen over turned in the process)

27th - McDonakd fouled by mcela just outside the box

28 - O’Sheas cross goes over everyone’s head and out for a GK

(at the 32nd minute they blogger notes: “Neither team has managed to have a clear cut chance as of yet“)

34 - Inman races onto a ball in behind but just doesn’t get there

38 - Inman finds a pocket and plays it square to Gillesphey who drives a low shot at goal, but Mrcela blocks well.

.41 - Gillesphey misses with an angled left field shot

43 - McDONALD misses with only the keeper to beat

44 - Corey Brown caught offside

45 - Pepper caught offside

45+1 McDonald attmepts to find Inman in behind, but the ball just strays wide.

I had a bloody brilliant day out.

Met a bloke who “has issues” with doing the Bouncy-Bouncy, a Glory fan who always takes his shoes and socks off when Glory are winning, and some nut job that drinks his beer from his right shoe every time Roar score. And I didn’t even get to see Richard Roar in his full kit and Orange feathers in his hat 😂

“trying to attract fans” ... Thats Gallop speak. Next it’ll be buckets on heads.

We don’t need to attract “fans” we need to attract “football people” who get the game, who can appreciate how hard it is, football people who respect what defenders do, what midfielders do and yes, appreciate good attacking football when they see it but respect and appreciate the whole game.

You can’t “Big Bash” football.

(And plenty of people found this game really entertaining by the way. Just because the trolls with agendas say they didn’t doesn’t make them right!)

C’mon, no ones denying it needs to be better but that shoots a couple of Fox’s in relation to earlier comments that’s all.

And how you can “park the bus” but still get both your wing-backs and defensive midfielder caught off side is anyone’s guess.

I predicted 3-1 to City if they show up that is. If they have a bad day it will 0-0. Can't see us winning.

I think we're a couple of good players away from being titled mediocre. Pity the best we could do is Brown and Maca over the Jan window.

At 10 secs each on average per incident, that's under 4 minutes total of being spoilt - LOL.

And when you actually watch each incident, the blog description of quite a few is not particularly accurate, and in some cases borders on fiction.

For example:
10th minute - Hingert offside with only the keeper to beat
What really happened - Hingert received the ball in an offside position on the side of the penalty area, about 6 metres from the backline, i.e., a tight angle towards goal. Flag immediately goes up and referee blows whistle. 3-4 Perth defenders still between Hingert and Reddy. Even after another two passes after Hingert was given offside there was no way a reasonable person would interpret the situation as Hingert only having the keeper to beat.

38 - Inman finds a pocket and plays it square to Gillesphey who drives a low shot at goal, but Mrcela blocks well.
.41 - Gillesphey misses with an angled left field shot
What really happened - these two entries read as Gillesphey having two shots on goal within three minutes. In fact the second one never happened, I suspect the blog has two entries about the same incident. The actual incident was Gillesphey hitting the ball along the ground from about 30 m out on an angle. It was targeted about 15-20 m to the right of the goal. It reached a Perth defender on the edge of the penalty area who kicked it clear.

If blog entries like this are being used as examples of Brisbane's attacking prowess, then it is an indication of how toothless they were in attack in the first half. And these are just a couple of examples, a few other of the blog entries presented give an exaggerated impression of Brisbane's attack.
By the way I am a Brisbane supporter, I always want them to do well, but I call things as I see them.

And when you actually watch each incident, the blog description of quite a few is not particularly accurate, and in some cases borders on fiction.

For example:

Are you suggesting we use these sunglasses to shield our eyes from the non-stop happiness and sunshine you continue to radiate?

Can't suggest you use them when they're already glued on some people ;)
