And when you actually watch each incident, the blog description of quite a few is not particularly accurate, and in some cases borders on fiction.

For example:
10th minute - Hingert offside with only the keeper to beat
What really happened - Hingert received the ball in an offside position on the side of the penalty area, about 6 metres from the backline, i.e., a tight angle towards goal. Flag immediately goes up and referee blows whistle. 3-4 Perth defenders still between Hingert and Reddy. Even after another two passes after Hingert was given offside there was no way a reasonable person would interpret the situation as Hingert only having the keeper to beat.

38 - Inman finds a pocket and plays it square to Gillesphey who drives a low shot at goal, but Mrcela blocks well.
.41 - Gillesphey misses with an angled left field shot
What really happened - these two entries read as Gillesphey having two shots on goal within three minutes. In fact the second one never happened, I suspect the blog has two entries about the same incident. The actual incident was Gillesphey hitting the ball along the ground from about 30 m out on an angle. It was targeted about 15-20 m to the right of the goal. It reached a Perth defender on the edge of the penalty area who kicked it clear.

If blog entries like this are being used as examples of Brisbane's attacking prowess, then it is an indication of how toothless they were in attack in the first half. And these are just a couple of examples, a few other of the blog entries presented give an exaggerated impression of Brisbane's attack.
By the way I am a Brisbane supporter, I always want them to do well, but I call things as I see them.

If you call things “as you see them” you should have more of a balance in your posts/analysis surely?

The blog entities aren’t an “exaggerated impression” of what went on they are merely what the bloggers wrote (and there’s at least three of them from different people).

So I don’t buy this “I call things as I see them” line, it sounds kinda cool and attempts to lend credibility to what your posting but consider this:

when someone posts that “Glory outclassed Roar in the first half” but the stats show Glory didn’t create a single scoring chance (like Roar) until the 32nd minute, why didn’t you challenge that ”as you saw it” - how can you be outclassed but not concede a single chance for more than 32 minutes?

and when someone says “Roar parked the bus” the evidence clearly suggests they didn’t (at least based on 3x blogs) and, by your own admission, the RWB was caught offside 6m out from their opponents touch line. Add to that Pepper and Brown getting caught offside and you have to ask where were they trying to park this mythical bus - in Reddys goal?

so why didn’t you call that “as you saw it”?

and you dismiss the blog posts because it doesn’t agree with your opinion, but bizarrely you accept anonymous posts on this site as somehow being “correct” and agree with them as if somehow they’re more credible.

It doesn’t stack up - you must have an agenda because you offer no evidence to support your opinion and dismiss evidence that doesn’t support your opinion.

But yeah, “as I see it” is some kinda trump card in on line debates 😂

Getting caught off-side is in that massive total 4 minutes of joy we're suppose to be getting LOL. So noone has said 100% parking the bus.

More confirmation you actually don’t know what that phrase means.

I'll put my definition on it and anyone can tell me how they differ.

Parking the Bus means putting most of your team effort into a deep tight formation at the defensive end for lengthy periods, and only a couple of players break forward when they get the ball. Every time the opponent gets the ball they should look up and see the defence intact and set deep ready to defend.

For the Roar, we play a defensive formation, but we rarely have them sitting deep and holding their positions unless they are constantly under attack. Excluding when we are closing out the last 20 minutes of a game, whenever we get the ball our defensive formation pushes up and most of them become part of the attack.

To me I define our play as defensive, but not parking the bus by a long way.

Waz's blog post should not have all those players out of their defensive positions if all we are doing is parking (as in not moving) the bus.

Love to hear other opinions on what it means...

That would be a fair description of "Parking The Bus".  As you pointed out, the Roar isn't doing this, it is starting games defensively.

The frustrating thing is that people have spent 3 pages posting about 45 minutes of football.  Perth won the first half, the Roar won the second  half, and consequently we had a drawn result ie neither team won.  The Roar started slowly and finished strongly.  Perth started strongly and finished slowly.  On balance a fair result.

The people who thought the Roar were crap on the week-end have had this view even before the season started and nothing will ever alter their view.  The Roar could win the GF (which I don't think they will) and you will have these same people say that the Roar are crap and it's more a reflection of how poor the league is as opposed to the Roar did well.  C'est la vie.  I have enjoyed the run of 9 games and I hope they continue unbeaten for the remainder of the season.

The tenet of the article is as you suggest, however, even in the article there is a hint that all is not as it seems. It speaks of the effort Fornaroli made to evade markers to put the shot in which Young would probably have saved but for the deflection, yet regarding McDonald the article says he "did miss a key chance in the first half when a Corey Brown cutback found him free in the box." At no time were any Perth attackers "free in the box". Our conversion rate of chances to goals has been very poor. One game we might click!

Scoring late does mean Roar "salvaged a draw" and is a good click bait headline, however, it is not indicative of the play for the game. I would say the first half was even, and we outpointed them in the second half. The reality is the result was 1 all, and both camps would, to use a well worn cliche, have taken positives out of the game.

I am reminded of a game at Suncorp against Fury in which we scored a 79th minute equaliser, though we had dominated the game. Similarly we "salvaged a draw", but the feeling in the stands was 2 points lost, not a point gained.

I think that is a fair summary, for me parking the bus is what Western United did when we played them the first time around and I can't think of situation where we have done that this season. But we look more defensive than we actually are because people are still expecting to see Angeball when they see the Roar colours (I know I am) and that is just not how we play, or how we could play with the current structures (Arnieball won that battle over Angeball) within the league.

I think it's great that they are taking an interest in the team (either pro or anti) and I don't mind that they disagree with me and therefore have no idea what they are talking about :P

It makes for a long week between games without something football related to read and chew over.

More confirmation you actually don’t know what that phrase means.

Ii's a loose definition that I don't use but it could mean different things to different people. For me it's a strategy to predominantly defend. Doesn't mean it has to be 100% defence but is  game plan to defend first and foremost. You can split hairs and write an essay about it in response, but it is as simple as that.

Funny as it sounds - do you dispute that Roar could possibly get to the GF, or that if they did they could win it?

Just wondering how deluded you think we might be.

My delusion says we could win any single game, and I don't mean that in the sense that any team can beat any other team on a good/bad day.

For me holding at least 6th (likely) then winning everything to get to the GF would be the greater challenge.

Personally that's all I needed to hear.

We all know that how we interpret is coloured by our perspective - and I think something very specific when I hear about parking the bus.

To be honest I think everyone agrees our first halves are about defence first (goals a bonus) and most of our discussion is disputing the negative aspect of being seen as bus parkers.

Not so far removed yet again when it comes down to it.

Watch the video of the first half and match up the blog entries with what actually happened, and make up your own mind (try to keep an open mind while you do this). I've watched them and I know what happened.

Regarding your assertion that Perth didn't create any chances until the 32nd minute, following are entries from the commentary on the A League website.
8Kilkenny's pass over the top finds Fornaroli who holds it up and tries a shot from outside the box but he's dragged it wide of the target
13Castro finds D'Agostino at the top of the box and his shot goes straight into the gloves of Jamie Young in the Brisbane goal
18Castro gives Fornaroli a nice pass and the Glory striker has a shot on the turn but the shot is expertly blocked by Aldred away for a corner
30Good chance for the Glory with Brimmer having a shot and then the ball gets out to Meredith whose cross is blocked and it deflects back off him for a goal kick

And if you can find anywhere where I have said or have agreed with anyone else that Roar parked the bus, then please point it out, as I don't believe I have said that.

What i dont understand  is if the strategy is to defend in the first half. Then clearly its not to score.Which is what is happening. We are the worst first half team for scoring in the first half.
So what happens in the second half?Suddenly priority is not to defend as much?
Last game Pepper was replaced by an attacker.Clearly a non defensive move. Why then? Why not at the  start?
If we are outplaying teams in the second half. Why not play the same in the first half?
Why is not trying to concede in the first half more important than the second half? There must be a reason.playing for a fitness advantage  is the most obvious. But it does confirm that Roar are not trying to play to score in the first half.Their objective is purely not to concede.Scoring is a bonus and one that we dont see too often.
If you are a spectator ,turn up for the second half of you want to see Roar score.Be happy if we are not a goal down at half time.

Should've called it months ago. BR player of the year will be Jamie Young, by a landslide. Wanna put a $1 on it Waz the denier. Has any other team had the goal keeper and the wood work save them as much as BR?
You are not a good team you are a team that RF has set up to make up for the lack of quality and it helps that the comp is poor. If BR make the G/F or heaven forbid win it then we might as well cancel the comp. Imagine the salary cap being lifted and these players demanding more money. What a travesty that would you.

Roar Football: 96% boring, 11% enjoyable, 0.1% possible.

Need to be an accountant to follow football properly these days :)

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

This could be another definition of parking the bus and pretty much sums it up - conservatively and gently (described by a Roar supporter to limit the negativity).

If you were a neutral you would be much more scathing and justifiably so.

Was that last game or the game before? The unbeaten run or the whole season to date?

Yep, pretty complex ;)

I must say that I actually enjoy watching my team winning games. Sometimes a draw is acceptable,  but I don't like losing. I appreciate the work that our coaches have put in to change the results from the first half of the season. I certainly appreciate the change from the defensive efforts of last year. 71 goals conceded! That certainly entertained some people,  but definitely not me.
