based on current ratings, there'd be even less subscribing for iHAL

Without Kayo figures it is hard to guess how many subscribe to watch A-league.

Be generous and double the Fox ratings to account for Kayo.  The figures are still contract ending.

Unless 30,000 of your mates are also using your login, suggest Kayo wont make up the 50%+ drop in viewers

So whats going on with reporting ratings?
AFLW ratings are up19% and suddenly include both Foxtel and Foxtel Go.The first time i have heard a combined figure given.
For Foxtel, its always  been Foxtel alone.
Then  the TV figures are down 20%  because the AFLW was bumped to a secondary channel?
Bluebird...Please explain ?
Are AFLW figures really good or bad?

They must have previous data, as they report a change on the Fox Now numbers from last year.

I'm not sure where else to put this, but we often talk about media deals on this thread, so I thought this was a good spot.

This is relevant to Australian football fans because it's about Amazon and sporting content they are producing for their streaming service, including docos of various European football clubs.  At the moment they are looking at the AFL, but who knows where this will lead more broadly.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/amazon-want-all-afl-clubs-in-documentary-series-20200225-p544ao.html

Amazon want all AFL clubs in documentary series

Amazon wants all 18 clubs to be part of a football documentary series in a deal with the AFL and McGuire Media.

The move comes as premiership coach Adam Simpson confirmed that West Coast had been in talks with the tech giants, with ruckman Nic Naitanui the focus.

The global streaming company are still negotiating the deal – which is yet to be signed – that they are hoping will involve all 18 clubs over three seasons.

...

Behind-the-scene sporting documentaries are growing in popularity, particularly when the content is on demand on streaming platforms.

On top of the Six Dreams series on Amazon Prime, their UK soccer series will follow defending premier league champions Manchester City and Netflix filmed a documentary on Italy’s most prestigious club Juventus, First team.

V’landys refused to comment on the secret trip with Abdo when this column contacted him, but it can be revealed he met with Fox Corp executive chairman Lachlan Murdoch in Los Angeles.

He and Abdo then headed to San Francisco where they met with the likes of Google, Facebook and Amazon — presumably about the looming broadcast negotiations when such streaming services will be used by the NRL as leverage for a fatter deal.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/v-landys-secret-murdoch-meeting-as-greenberg-future-grows-murky-20200227-p544z5.html

Looks like the NRL are running the same line, both codes seem to be eager to lock a new deal on early, which doesn’t bode well for the a-league, even if a broadcaster wanted it, there mightn’t be any money left.

Agree. It does have the look of us getting the scraps doesn’t it.

One of the most important things in broadcast negotiations is to be organised.
The AFL and NRL are organised and professional and have the proper time to put into strategic negotiations.

Do we even know who is really running the HAL at the moment ?

If our hope is to end up on Optus, which clearly has many advantages, it doesn't really matter what the other codes are doing.

of course it does, unless you want optus to offer a ham sandwich for the rights you need bidding tension, if there's no money left, there's no bidding tension.

There wasn't much bidding pressure for the last rights.

People think the next a-league rights will be like previous ones where foxsports effectively monopolised them.

The next round the a-league will be offering 6 rounds (eventually 7 due to expansion to 14 teams).

You will most likely see a scenario where foxsports own a piece and optus/channel 10 own another. It will be split with different companies owning exclusive games per round each.

Kind of a good indication of the make up of Foxtels audience.
