+x+x+x+x+xCan't see Arnold bringing in too many changes for the games in 4 weeks. Biggest questions are: Will Elder finally come in? Are Holland and Rukavytsya finally going to be selected on merit? Luongo, Behich and Leckie are lacking fitness. Do they sit this big journey out? Should Glover miss out in minutes for Roos exposure? I say no and get Fed or some other reserve in. My squad Ryan, Langerak, Federici Grant Sainsbury Degenek Souttar Deng Elder Smith Mooy Rogic Hrustic Amini Irvine Holland Goodwin Mabil Taggart Maclaren Giannou Boyle Rukavytsya Just feel a more merit based squad will send some signals. It could make or break the dressing room by destroying some of the entitlement a few players seem to have and get the mindset right that spots must be earned. You've said merit based yet included Deng and Smith over Garrucio and Good......... in case you forgot.. Smith won the MLS(first aussie to do so) about a month ago and was one of Seattles better players... he just got to cardiff a few weeks ago.. some people my god.. and what about the time he spent on the bench or out of the squad at his parent club prior to his transfer? When he was playing week in week out in MLS id have been happy to see his recall but jesus he isnt playing at present Unfortunately he cant decide when MLS play.. he got a great move to the Championship and hes finally back injury free and playing.. although not quite yet for Cardiff.. But you wanna pick Garrucio over him? are u high? You called for a merit based selection........................ As it is it appears Garrucio isnt playing now anyway. Elder appears to be the only consistent left back and he was useless against Leeds on the weekend

Probably add Holland, Petratos and Nabbout only due to form and recent call ups. Outsiders though.

+xSo are these WCQ's going ahead ? 26th March for the Australian one. Doubt it, the March matches likely to be pushed to September or October FIFA dates, meaning final round of qualifiers will be very packed. I reckon even the June qualifiers are doubtful and Copa might be cancelled. Would be gutted if Copa is cancelled. Covid-19 numbers starting to appear in South America. Will go through there like a hot curry.

But I can see the 2021 international calendar being packed with catch up matches. FIFA might have to find some more dates, which will be interesting if club competitions are also playing catch up! Maybe the South Americans will say stuff it and play this Copa behind closed doors?

there is not a single irreplaceable player in our NT squad. there a a couple that we are better with. but there is not a single player at the moment that our NT is dependent upon. so we should not be pandering to mediocre club form and choices. no matter their history

also think the good or delbridge question has been answered now. delbridge looks like he might be going to have some trouble getting his spot back from rostyn griffiths. curtis good for the squad. also, how about mrcela? i missed the first 30 minutes of the city v glory game and the 3 goals that glory copped. but glory have been pretty tight at the back. do you think that's mrcela? defensively, if souttar is making it in the team then mrcela is a step up. mrcela for the squad.

+xClub and nt form are different. You can't leave players out just because they're going through a rough patch which may not even be there fault this. In fact playing for the national team helps key players get back to form and fitness and can assist them getting club moves. Kewell put in some great performances for the roos despite being out of the equation club wise from 06-08. paul okon same thing 1999-03

You can't leave players out just because they're going through a rough patch which may not even be there fault so players doing the work, making the cut at their club, playing games, should miss out? nope. going through a rough patch is missing a few games. mooy went through a rough patch and worked his way into the first 11 at brighton. this isn't kindergarten. no participation awards. some of the names talked about on this thread have hardly played this season. the NT isn't a rehab facility. they need to sort their shit out.

We are risk averse, so postponed for sure I’d say. Clubs won’t be happy if we go ahead.

You pick your best 11 whether playing or not playing etc. A half fit mooy for instance is still better than a fit jeggo for instance. in other words its all relative to the alternatives you have available?

It's an interesting one. I recall many games where Sterjovski, Carney and others who I felt were more fringe put in great games when top fit over and injury clouded Bresciano or Chipperfield. Still though, how much does a player really regress with less match time ? I guess with our players it appears to be a lot.

It's a difficult thing to make absolute rulings on, as the above posters seem to have attempted, as there is always individual contexts. No international coach is going to pick the guy playing every minute for CCM over a squad player at Barcelona, for example.

So long as he is not injured Mooy will always at least be picked on our bench at minimum even if he wasn't playing any minutes. Viduka and Kewell were the same. Sainsbury was still picked for years despite not playing at club level has has been consistently excellent (starting to decline a bit lately though)
