India and Saudi Arabia have confirmed bids, while the AFC have reasonably extended the bidding deadline from the end of March until the end of June due to Coronavirus. Source: https://www.espn.com/soccer/afc-asian-cup/story/4082821/india-submit-bid-to-host-2027-afc-asian-cup

I know which of the two above bids I'd rather go to, needless to say. Assuming the unwritten rule of alternating between East and West continues I'd like to see Uzbekistan bid, perhaps a joint Central Asian bid with some of their neighbours. Qatar might well be keen to go for it given that they'll be hosting the WC five years afterwards, so the world can know what a disaster that will be in advance.

Definitely would like to see an Uzbek bid. I don't how well all those neighbours get on. It would seem a big challenge with all the money and set up. That part of the world could always do with a shot in the arm. Almaty was so close to getting the 2022 winter games. While it's been well established that events might be detrimental to a place, Almaty had a solid bid.

Apparently Uzbekistan has been getting along with their neighbours better since 2017 when they got rid of the president who'd been in office since the nation was created, but obviously I don't know much about it.

Fuck Saudi Arabia.  More human rights abusing scumbags.

India, developing football nation, a chance for football in India to step out of the shadow of cricket.  Perfect.

Would be great to see India develop their football. The cricket stadiums will be no fun, though.

Five Member Associations express interest to host 2027 AFC Asian Cup
Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Kuala Lumpur: Following the invitation to all Member Associations to express their interest in hosting the AFC Asian Cup 2027 by June 30, 2020, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed on Wednesday it has received expressions of interest from five Member Associations.

The five Member Associations who have signalled their intentions to stage Asia’s premier football tournament are (in alphabetical order by country): All India Football Federation, Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran, Qatar Football Association, Saudi Arabian Football Federation and Uzbekistan Football Association.

The AFC will now work with each Bidding Member Association on the delivery of the necessary bidding documentation in accordance with the bidding process and will announce the host for the 19th edition of the AFC Asian Cup in 2021.

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa thanked the five Member Associations for showcasing their support and hailed their ambitions as a great testament to the ever-growing stature of the AFC Asian Cup.

Shaikh Salman said: “The AFC Asian Cup is the pinnacle stage for Asia’s finest and the record breaking and biggest-ever edition in the United Arab Emirates in 2019 laid the foundations for Asian football to strengthen this legacy and we have no doubts that China PR will not only match but also surpass all our expectations in 2023.

“On behalf of the Asian football family, I would like to thank all our Member Associations for stepping forward to express their desire and for sharing our ambitions to host a world-class stage for our players, teams, officials and fans and I wish all of them the very best in the bidding process.”

Of the five Member Associations expressing an interest, two nations have already hosted the tournament twice since its inception in 1956. Reigning champions Qatar staged the competition in 1988 and 2011, as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran, who are the only nation in Asian football history to have won the coveted crown twice on home soil in 1968 and 1976.

Three-time champions Saudi Arabia and India, who were recently awarded the hosting rights for the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, as well as Uzbekistan, this year’s host for the AFC U-19 Championship, are all vying to stage Asia’s football crown jewel for the first time.

Go Uzbekistan. They'll have six years to get ready if the host is announced in 2021.

Just anyone except Saudi, really.

Pity that the vote for 2027 will be held before Qatar bollockses up the 2022 WC.

Of course, Milliy Stadium would be the centrepiece of the Uzbek bid, but there's actually a fair few other pretty recently built, decent looking venues on this list: http://www.worldstadiums.com/asia/countries/uzbekistan.shtml

Certainly no worse than what the UAE dished up.

The Uzbeks have pulled out, unfortunately. https://kun.uz/en/news/2020/12/16/uzbekistan-quits-the-race-to-host-2027-asian-cup

We're probably going to get another bland petrostate Asian Cup with empty seats and laughable management when Qatar or Saudi win it, but I'm still holding out hope for Iran or India.

Yep, wouldn't mind India or Iran out of the 4 left.
