We will play the only way we stand a chance against teams quicker and technically/tactically better than us.

We will use the aerial ability of our two front men and hit Van Dijk with long balls

Who knows how it will go,though we will probably score a few goals like this but i still fear we will concede more than we score

There's no desperation in the way we defend at the moment so there's no doubt we will concede lots. Watching Wellington players put their bodies on the line time and time again to get to the ball first or to block a shot last Friday made me a bit envious.

Although never the classiest player(and one that annoyed me), it was something you saw good ol' Cornflakes do on a weekly basis.

Absolutely, we'll miss his goals at corners in the ACL too :(

Ah Cornflakes. Memories. Good and bad. Scored some valuable goals for us and was always up for every game. Unfortunately you could almost guarentee 2 bolted on klangers from him each game.

Anyone been following his progress? How's he getting on?

for the record let me say - i love this club. its my hometown club. i love them, but..........

unfortunately everything that we had when bianco was the owner has left the building. the friendships, the love, the passion, the comradery - its non-existient now.

with the new owners (and i thank god we have stable new owners with money) the club is run like a jail now.

everyone is to scared to speak their minds and the players have their little groups that they hang out in.

its not a unified team. most of those guys just rock up and do their job. some (reportedly) dont even want to be there - not mentioning any names dario vidosic.

all the games in the last 6 weeks we should of won. but its not our technical skill that let us down. it was our mental skill exactly as kossie has said in the tv interviews.

unfortunately this cannot be taught on the training paddock so i can say with confidence now:

- we will not make the top 6
- we wont even get close to making it out of the acl group stage

how do we change all this around?

i personally dont think it will for at least the next 2 years.

and we need a central attacking midfielder. i hear the club is trying to bring marcos back but i dont know what the stumbling block is as im told he is not happy in china

when kossie says we can make the final top 6 - he has to say this, but we all know its not true especially after newcastles win over sydney.

victory and adelaide to revive in 18+ months

We have a team for the ACL.

Hugene

Dilevski Mullen Susak Pancho

McKain

Ramsey Dario Cassio

Bruce Serg

Bench: Malik, Boogs, Barbiero

Plenty of pace and width. Height and strength up the front. Some real power and experience at the back. Don't write us off yet.

hahahhaha youre kidding me arent you??

McKain in the midfield playing against asia's best??

youge got to be joking. i reckon some ameatuer teams here in adelaide could run rings around him.

you need a creative midfielder to deliver the ball.

McKain cannot do this
Dario can sort of do it
Ramsey can sort of do it but he's on the wing.
Cassio same as ramsey

youre dreaming if you think that team has any chance of even drawing a game

Well trosa, I guess I should bow to your obvious genius and admit defeat.

But I won't. If you want to bag out our players then fine. I just think we have enough depth to field a competitive team. McKain is a better player than we've seen so far and at DM he may well do just what we need. Between him, Ramsey, Dario and Cassio I think there's enough creativity.

So, I'll keep dreaming.

I don't mind that formation at least for home. I know Golec has made a couple of bad mistakes that have cost us but he's the best LB we have defensively IMO (Cassio is much better getting forward of course).

For away games I'd do this:

Hugene

Dilevski Mullen Susak Golec

McKain Pancho

Ramsey Dario Cassio

Serg

Bench: Malik, Bruce, Barbiero, Boogs

Probably not going to score a ton of goals but I'll take 0-0 draws. Plus with the ACL we have more flexibility with our subs.

I sort of like this but have a problem with Cassio playing so far advanced. He's an enigma in terms of being a good attacking left/wing back but I wouldn't play him that advanced for 90 mins.

I also have a problem with McKain in a DM role. Just don't think he has the mobility. I think smaller, faster Aisan no10's would have him for breakfast. I'd put a rocket up Malik's backside and have him play alongside Pancho.

Typically, I forgot Golec. He'd be a useful LB of course but he needs to restrain his enthusiasm for getting out of position.

I hear the pint about Cassio but we're a bit limited in attacking options. The team is unbalanced.

I like the home/away option. Makes sense.

As for McKain, I still think he'll work out for us.

I just don't subscribe to the idea that we're finished this year. Football can change very quickly of the right formula is found to suit the players we have.

sorry but your off the mark trosa about your jail statement and your other statements you have made in my opinion

yes Ramsay can run and beat a player one on one but when he is pressured by more then one player he looses the ball

he is good on the wing and is a good crosses but along the ground through balls he can not do he would be no good in the midfield so yes that is why he is a winger

dario is lazy but unfortunalty he is the best we have atm hopefully we can find someone who will play all game and not have to turn into long ball play in the second halves

djite and djke can work but we need a cam that will play all game other wise they are useless

we need a rb and another back up cb

why we got rid of norton i have no idea he was hyped up as the future lb when cassio is done and then he dissapeers.

the culture in adelaide united atm is bad because of what rini left it is bad because of how we are playing when he was around. Anyone can see the players have been happier since kossie game along.

also mckain in dm would be good i would rather him there then cb, cb he is to much of a liability

cant wait for the team to get over then injuries let kossie have the full team like rini did and see what kossie can do

people forget that rini had a full team when kossie came in injures already hit and he is already doing a better job then what rini did

just some of the stuff i have been thinking of this week lol

I’m really not sure what Nick Bianco or the current owners have to do with any of this? Dario doesn’t want to be here, what can you do? You get that. Reid travelled to Iran and didn’t want to be there. Flores went to China and by all accounts doesn’t want to be there .

As far as the friendships/camaraderie things are concerned, I agree, there was a lot more of that “love” going round the club. BUT it also hurt the club… because it cost Nick a packet to host those events and to hand out freebies and free tickets and free away game trips.

Besides, I felt to get access to that, you needed to be in the “circle” anyway. ie. I only ever heard about club functions and the like through friends who were tradies and/or had accounts with Bianco Construction Supplies. I don’t ever recall getting an invite to any club event apart from the annual club day.

At least under the new owners, they’re a lot more accessible, as we recently discovered again with the Tapestry Wines event. Everyone on 442 that went have raved on about it. They’re commoners like the rest of us, but through a membership, had access to such benefits. Also the club have created the AUFC Supporters Committee. Again another in road for us commoners to have our voices heard. I feel this approach spreads the “love” to all and sundry and I prefer this style. That’s my take anyway.

You're right to an extent but I've just lost hope this season. Kossie has been making some strange decisions that have confirmed to me that I don't feel comfortable with him as a long term choice. We're scoring goals finally but we have the worst defence and possibly midfield in the league. At this stage of the season the stats don't lie and we are leaking goals like a sieve at the back. Alex Fuguson couldn't turn us around at the moment.

I think we're finished for the a-league. We'll lift a bit for the ACL but I don't see us getting through the group stage.

ALso completely agree, having said that trosa does make some good points as well elsewhere - apart from McKain as a CDM, he is the only player in the squad who can play the position like Reid did for us, head up and actually looking for options.

Another international game at Hindmarsh isn't such a bad thing. 8-0 to us will do just fine.

Seriously though, it should be interesting and if we have to play it then play it we will. Of all the teams in Australia we have the least to fear from International competition. We've done it before and we'll do it again. Hope we get a crowd.

Yeah, changing the rules to gift AUFC direct entry, then turning around when they were ordered by a court, making the Reds play-off for the spot, as they were supposed to do in the first place.

Yeah, changing the rules to gift AUFC direct entry, then turning around when they were ordered by a court, making the Reds play-off for the spot, as they were supposed to do in the first place.

B'stards.

Don't know what your agenda is but AUFC were not gifted direct entry. We entered the draw like all eligible clubs were, and were drawn the bye. Persipura were not eligible, thus missed out entirely.

Instead, they went to the CAS to overturn AFC and FIFA statutes and make the whole situation into a farce.

Hardly. Persipura appealed their wrongful exclusion. CAS looked at all parties' depositions and granted Persipura the play-off they had qualified for as the winner of a FIFA-recognised league. As CAS held, Persipura was eligible and should have been drawn a play-off (against one of the other three teams) but for the wrongful actions of PSSI.

Hey, forfeit the match and go off to court if you think it's unfair. What would your chairman's inner lawyer do if FFA had withheld AUFC's documentation.

It is a terrible situation for AUFC to be in, but you're by far the most successful and experienced Aussie club in international club competition.

Redcup merely oversimplified the scenario. Foxtel is covering the game and I'm looking forward to an exhibition from the Reds. Anything less from the one-time ACL runners-up would be a total humiliation.

Just be thankful you're not playing the tie at Mandala stadium!

Color match riot Persipura vs Persija

Yogyakarta - Riots supporters re-coloring the game of football in Indonesia, their involvement ending in a brawl at Mandala Stadium. The violence occurred when the match Persipura versus Persija , Tuesday (07/02/2012) afternoon local time, had entered the final minutes.

At that time, the Persija were leading 1-0 through a late penalty by Bambang Pamungkas. Rogue Persipura fans came to the east stands where The 'Jak Mania' gathered. These unscrupulous Persipura fans shouted ridicule pitched at, but not returned by The Jak Mania. The situation got hotter when other Persipura fans come back to the east stands and threw a number of objects in the direction of the away fans. The Jakarta fans huddled and then ran toward the south stands. Conditions got increasingly out of control when more throwing continued, now with stones.

Under continual attack, The Jakarta fans were eventually directed onto the pitch. The security forces seem overwhelmed controlling the masses. In fact, after the game ended, the action of the chase and stone throwing carried on. From information compiled by detiksport, several members of the Jak suffered head injuries in these riots. They were rushed to nearby Bethesda Hospital.

"There were friends who had to bleeding heads, including one in front of me. They hit with a stone," said one eyewitness, Anas, when contacted by detiksport. "After the game finished, Persipura fans outside the stadium also remained. They pelted the buses used by the Jak," he said. Further information received, one of the supporters suffered sharp stab wounds. Currently, Jakarta fans are still under medical care. (MFI / din)

Should have, would have, could have. At the time of the draw, Persipura was no longer a part of the FIFA-recognised league so therefore forfeits all relation to anything that FIFA runs. Yes, they won their league, but by then joining a rebel league, that's hardly an act of supporting their country's premier competition and representing it in the Champions League. I still can't see the reason why you claim PSSI did something wrong.

You must be deluded to think we'd forfeit an ACL game! As for Griffin, I know for sure he will be seeking compensation for this short notice. And that is my main gripe - that there was only just over a week of notice for the play-off to occur. If Persipura had been drawn with the rest of the competition in December, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

But for once we agree on something. AU's experience and prior success in Asia should see us get through the game, and through to the group stage.

Barring the fact that we have had hardly any time to analyse Persipura's game, we should do okay against them. The team of today is not the same team as in 2008. Regardless, bring it on.

he scored a hat rick today i didn't see ??

but that still does not change the fact about how many he does miss though yea ?

he might of played well today but that does not change the fact he has missed about 10 easy other shots this season and not just missed totally missed nearly the ball on impact

but like i said if he can sort that out would love him here when he is on fire in a match he is on fire.
