And I for the life of me can only think of one St Josephs friend that lived on East Street

Knowing two of them would be rarer than knowing two Davides born in 1982

Yeah it's me Andrew :) The mcjules comes from me using the name to piss of a friend who it is far more appropriate for back when I was at uni. It kind of stuck with me ever since

Reds recruit visits juniors

Ben Drewe and Ben Drewe | 7th June 2012 1:00 PM

Daniel Bowles (right) talks with St Albans under-12 players Zac Erlandson, Lockie Wilson and Cody Walker at training.

ADELAIDE United recruit Daniel Bowles is back in Toowoomba this week enjoying a break from training before he returns to try to earn a place in the Reds' squad for the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League.

Bowles, 20, visited junior footballers at St Albans and South-West training on Tuesday night before mixing it with children at Toowoomba Grammar School yesterday.

"I went out to St Albans, my first junior club, and then I went out to Captain Cook Oval for South-West training. It was good to go out and talk with the kids and hopefully give them some motivation for if they want to make it to the top level," he said.

Bowles joined the Reds last month and has been settling in to life in Adelaide.

It is his first club outside the south-east of Queensland, after stints with Brisbane Roar and Gold Coast, and he says his new teammates have been welcoming.

Bowles is back in Toowoomba until the weekend and has five weeks off training.

He will return keen to impress new coach John Kosmina in a bid to earn a place not only in the Reds' A-League squad but the club's ACL team for the upcoming two-legged quarter-finals in September and October.

"I'm eligible for the next stages. At least when they go back for the start of pre-season it's something to work towards," he said.

Bowls and Adelaide will discover their ACL quarter-final opponents on June 14.

Just a quick question. I would love to see Farmers Union Ice Coffee as one of our main sponsors even the front of shirt sponsor. Has there ever been an approach for them ? for a company that is looking to expand around Australia what a perfect way. I understand them saying no to Being sponsor to the ACL ( but who knows) But i don't know why they would so no to being an a-league major sponsor.
Football Operations
Dear Adam

We would welcome Farmers Union Ice Coffee as a sponsor and will follow up. All supplier contracts at Hindmarsh are secured by the Govt through ORS, as such we are not aware of their arrangement.

Hi Glenn

This may have been asked so I'm sorry if so, but what was the reason behind AUFC pulling out of purchasing the Veneto Club? It may have not been in a perfect location but the set up there appears to be great, pitches for youth sides and a bar/club facility for fans to spend money and watch away games at. Is the club still working on purchasing a bar/club facility in the future?

Thanks
CEO
Hi Stuckey,

We didn't proceed with the purchase on commercial grounds. As a training facility it was very good, as a licensed premises it did not meet our criteria. Licensed premises are open 365 days per year, and as such need to trade very well outside match and training days for sporting Clubs. We can confirm that the securing of a Licensed facility remains on the Club's agenda. However the consolidation of Club

Phil
I'm curious - what was the final story behind the seating covers/shelters from Adelaide Oval? If I believe correctly, they have been scrapped altogether, which is an unfortunate waste. They would have provided a resourceful and clever addition to Hindmarsh Stadium.
CEO
Hi Phil

The official answer was simply this: "to have salvaged them would have delayed the Adelaide Oval project". We thought the initiative had merit and admit it would have required further engineering work. But it wasn't to be, nothing stops in the way of the first AFL match in 2014!

would of been good to have the cover.
Farmers union make it happen lol

Great meeting tonight went for 2 hours well done to Glenn Elliot michael valkanis and Matt Rossi in attendance answering out questions

A few highlights and with reds united and vanbasten88 in attendance I'm sure they can fill in more detail.

Possibly our regional game could be at hindmarsh to bring the country folk to us rather then the other way around since south Australia is unique with how most regions centre in on the city of Adelaide.

Kit will be tri state colours it won't be an all red kit could be similar to our old kit in the nsl but stress not going to look like the crows so will assume red will still be the primary colour.

The goal next season is to just win as many games as possible.

Glenn Elliot (CEO), Michael Valkanis (NYL Head Coach/First Team Assistant Coach) and Matt Rossi (Memberships and Ticketing manager) were present to talk to the members about the recent past, present and future of the club.

Key points from the meeting:

- Focus in the last few games of the last A-League season was on the defense, and that carried over into the ACL campaign as preparation for the new A-League season. This has naturally progressed into forward transition and attacking intent. Expect to see more improvement in the attacking department come October as that is Kossie's natural style of play.

- Recruiting for the club will be overseen by a "List Manager" - new position at the club in the footballing department. They will personally observe all potential players playing in person before offering trials. Glenn was adamant that this had not happened with some previous players who came into the team on "high profiles" but with no understanding of the club or the city.

- All players contracted with the club have been personally interviewed by the board and the coach, to discuss what they can bring to the club. Some were apparently very frank and open, but showed the club how much they would give to the club.

- A lot of emphasis of pushing players through the system and elevating them to the first team squad at a younger age. A lot of praise was given to young NYL defender Jordan Elsey, and his resilience in the Weifang Cup last year. Lots of the boys who played in the Weifang Cup were subsequently offered NYL contracts because they had shown they could step it up at a higher level. Of those in the NYL, many have gone on to train with the first team, to again challenge them to step it up to a more professional, higher intensity training regime. A lot of promising local kids coming through the ranks at the moment.

- Barker-Daish was talked up as one of very few players who have developed as natural No.10's in this country. Both he and Bowles are now available for selection in the next stages of the ACL, and have been nothing but professionals, coming over to the club early and training with the squad from the get-go. Wanted to come over earlier, but Kossie told them to have a break!

- Winning games is a priority. Winning will encourage crowds to return. More crowds = more revenue. More revenue = more profits. The football club is a business. It must make money to survive.

- The club is financially in the black by about $15-16k from the ACL campaign so far. Glenn did make a point that the FFA will take some cut of the winnings, but only if we make it to the final.

- Adelaide United will remain at Hindmarsh Stadium. Possibility of NYL and W-League games used as curtain-raisers for a few games this season, but restricted due to the travel requirements and lodging of visiting teams.

- All beverage (and possibly a lot of other) sponsorships will lapse next March. Fresh slate for clubs and FFA to work with.

- Kappa has been confirmed as our kit supplier. Awaiting final signatures before the announcement. Kit will return to SA tri-colours. Legea stepped in for the ACL, and the club will discuss with them if they are still to be required for the remaining knock-out stage games.

- Major sponsorships have been hard to come by. Coopers will continue their sponsorship with the club in the A-League. After the cry-out in the paper recently, two companies have approached the club interested in sponsoring the Reds for the rest of the ACL. No names were mentioned. Caltex are interested in a bigger involvement in football, but not AUFC specifically. BHP were mentioned to be interested in investing in the grassroots development of the game.

- An annual AUFC v MVFC 'Legends' game is on the cards. Off the pitch, our clubs are quite close and plans are in the works for each city to alternately host the game annually. Personally I think it's overkill as an annual event, and it's still rather soon to be calling past players legends. Some are still playing elsewhere so that would make it difficult.

- The regional game is to be held at Hindmarsh Stadium. The club will provide subsidised travel and accommodation to regional centres around SA and the stadium bays will be sectioned up and labelled with the region along the sponsor boards.

Hard desicion

do you show loyalty to a kit supplier who has probably offered less money but stepped in at a time of need last minute

or go with you new kit supplier who has offered you more money and will have a better kit design to for the next stages of the acl

i like the tri colour idea. main red with yellow and a bit of blue trim would go down nicely to me lol

An annual AUFC v MVFC 'Legends' game is on the cards. Off the pitch, our clubs are quite close and plans are in the works for each city to alternately host the game annually. Personally I think it's overkill as an annual event, and it's still rather soon to be calling past players legends. Some are still playing elsewhere so that would make it difficult.

Seems a bit early, but in the long term a brilliant idea.

Doesn't really seem like a regional 'game' so much as a game with regional fans?

Basically the reasons for moving the regional round were that
(1) Last year our regional round was held in another state's region and there was very little interest or promotion by the local council/town. This may have been because there was no connection with either Adelaide or Newcastle.-( just my opinion ) Also our state's regional areas are unique in that there seems a greater connection to our main city.
(2) The crowd in regional areas would most probably be < 5K, because of lack of infrastucture etc., so by having it @ the Marsh AU would be expecting a much larger crowd = more money for the club.

So I doubt anyone will lose their seats in the rush. 1st in - best dressed
