Crap, what would we call races then? Like.. a bike race

lol these topics.....let me have a try.
A Race, as in bikes or cars, what do you replace Race with ? Course ? maybe Event ? then all types of racing could be called Events ? for eg, Pro Cycling Event ? or motogp Event and or Formula 1 Event Imola June 19 2020 for eg......
FFS its splitting hairs for me but I get the thought process but meh....
An example brought up here re male/thread/nut or bolt and female terminology meaning hole or similar.
Really its a prob in todays world ?
Not surpised mind you, splitting hairs as mentioned, so should males be offended that a nut/bolt for eg is offensive ?
Oh your a bolt head ! who thinks like this.
FFS I also shouldn't get involved in this.
Precious - Smegal used to say.
No people can't understand the point having to change specific terminolgies in general, for talking generally on specific topic/item such as a nut and bolt or male female Trade Industry wise with normal people wouldn't consider it offensive one bit when people know the subject.
Its only offensive to people who either have no idea and read it their train of thought which is wrong due to their lack of understanding the topic yet the mention is this should be changed.....
Like WTF, correct like "what difference does it matter to you" when you have no idea what people are talking about in the first place yet there is offense hearing male or female descriptions for hardware.
Turn it up.

He was making the comment to discredit some legitimately good work in the open source software community. In fact all the ones you rebuked were as far as I know spurious "thin edge of the wedge" arguments.

So when do we start changing the names of Australian states? New South Wales, Victoria, Queesland, Tasmania. They're all references to colonialism are they not?

Pretty problematic imo.

Good on you mate.  Not enough blokes willing to put their hand up.

I'll jump onto your WFMB too while I'm here.  Been promoted to doing a centre for the reserves in the Coastal Premier league this weekend and AR for 1st grade.  (Usually do centres for 1sts, 2nds and 3rds.)

Did 2 AR's last weekend for reserves and firsts.  Enjoyed doing the lines more than I thought I would.  (Much prefer centres to lines.)

Bit nervous and excited about this weekend as it's a step up in intensity and aggro which I hope I can manage.

Yeah, it's been something I've been meaning to do for a few years, but sort of took on commitments with NPL clubs. Had issues with them, so now decided to just decide my own path.

And well done, would love to get up to a top tier of a local league. Will be doing AR in our 4th tier here, and yeah getting the same nervous and excitement. Have done quite a few games back in my hometown in the past as a clubbie linesman, but that was 10 years ago now, so will just have to get my eye back in.

And... have been registered on there since before Christmas in anticipation for the season that never started haha

Wfmb: working with some funny arse truck drivers.  Days go quick when you have a laugh

The last full-time job I worked (before starting my business) was at an electrical wholesalers and man those guys were a funny bunch of misfits. Blasting Triple J at work all day, my boss used to announce he was ducking home at lunchtime to smoke cones, another co-worker would announce he was going to the toilet like "I'm going to go and poo out my bum" like it was a profound statement, and we'd talk about how peeing out of your dick was more pleasurable than doing it out of your nose or your ear like it was a serious discussion. Then there was the habit my boss and a co-worker would have of standing in the entrance to our branch and yelling "GEEEET FUCKED!" at the top of their lungs. Then there was the Australia Day where we hung out at the bosses', dropped acid and sat in the backyard cranking the Hottest 100 countdown. My co-workers commentary of low-flying planes coming into land later that night was unforgettable:

"This guy he's coming in low.....he's committed......oh get fucked get fucked get fucked get fucked get fucked! Nah- he's going to loop it around again!"

Etc.

It definitely made a confusing and (in some ways) transitional time in my life much more bearable.

There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

The company who owns it decided the name change. Doesn't affect anyone . The family don't care . Why are people so upfronted by the company wanting to change the name? I used to work with a family with the last name cocks. They understood why people would get offended so professionally they changed it to cox

To loosely quote Ricky Gervais, just because you are offended doesn't mean you are right.

Answer this question: In this instance, are those who are offended right to be?

So you're saying the people offended by the name change are allowed to be because it doesn't effect them at all. The family doesn't have an issue with it . Does it effect you personally that the Canadian company who own it decided to change the name?

When did I ever say people aren't allowed to be offended?

And yes, when you look at the wider context of cancel culture than it absolutely, will affect all of us eventually. Pretty disingenuous to argue this is just an isolated incident. Stop burying your head in the sand in respects to where we are heading with this nonsense.

Most people wouldn't want to change their name if it allegedly offended someone. Why should they? It is their family heritage.

Yes but if there was a corner shop called 'Coon general store' because their surname was Coon would they have to change it because someone was complaining?
