Its concerning that the team was given an opportunity to leapfrog some QLD teams and get out of wooden spoon position,  by playing a heavily depleted Storm outfit and was comprehensively beaten.

The motivation to win should have been there.
They shouldnt need a coach to tell them.

They just dont have control of games or the ability to change momentum in games.

SG should introduce a name and shame segment during the video sessions where all players can name who they think had a shocker and get to line them up against a wall and peg them with tomatoes from 10 yards.

The players are then ineligible to play the following week as punishment.

Perhaps it can work as a demerit system. You start with 10 demerits and when you drop to zero or beyond, you are shamed.

Tolman can be the face of the segment

Why wasn’t Katoa given a go earlier in the season?

He was good yesterday, and like a No9 should be doing, was hunting for the offload to create 2nd phase play.... Not saying he’s our answer, but fark he’s 1000 times better than JMK.

Ogden is a beast... another not given a chance under Pay. Last 2 games he’s been the best forward along with RFM.

The newsreader is safer at 1 than DWZ, but the kid needs to put his body on the line ffs! He could have stopped that PNG storm player yesterday from scoring.

With all our centre disasters this year I don't know why Harper wasn't given a go early in the season. Unless of course the Manly deal was done earlier than we knew.  Still, he was an unused resource.

100% agree.
Katoa was awful in execution first couple of weeks and defence was all over the place.
But he has shown to be much better in attack than JMK will ever be. If our team pushed up in attack, he'd be even better as the half chances he creates could turn into something.

In a team like this, I'd rather we create 100 and convert 10 rather than create 8 and convert 7

Lafai will come good.
When he left this team, it was an era where our centres where vital to our scoring plays - just like most other teams.
He has now returned to a team where the centre is absent from the attacking plays and used as a decoy or battering ram to relieve tired forwards.

The team needs a reset with roles redefined.

Reposting this as i posted this at a bad time just before yesterday's game (with apologies to Dman)

 If TAFE ran a siucide bomber course it might go like this;
“About me, your lecturer- let me be honest and say from the outset that I don’t have a wealth of experience in this area. You will appreciate that experience, and by that I mean successful experience, is difficult to come by in this area. But we live in troubled times and there is a great need at the moment for such skills. So I will do my best given the limited number of successful suicide bomber missions I have been on.”
“Some house keeping matters first.”
“If you are concurrently doing any of the following courses then it is advisable to complete these before starting this course;
  • ‘Croche and parachuting’
  • ‘Bandanas, Flags and Dogma’
Also, please note that in the course ‘Plane Highjacking for Beginners’, the chapter
‘Landing a Plane safely’ has been deleted.”
“Because the nature of the Suicide Bomber course TAFE asks that in this course you pay in advance. Last year, being the first year of the course, a number of students said they would pay on successful completion of the course which posed some administrative problems. This is not to mention the delicate nature of contacting family for fees ……how shall I put this…… after gaining full accreditation ”
“The course runs for  10 weeks depending on student aptitude. Effort outside the classroom is encouraged beyond any set homework and would include experimentation. Initiative in this area of study cannot be underestimated and will be rewarded. Those students who successfully “leave us” and don’t come back in week 2 get a High Distinction. Those who successfully “leave us” after week 3 or 4 gain just a Distinction. You only gain a pass if you make it to week 5. Students who come every week without fail for 10 weeks will automatically fail.
Certificates of successful completion of the course will be issued posthumously. This may be of no assistance for future resumes/ job interviews etc.”
“You will need the course text ‘I want to kill everyone including myself because I lost my girlfriend, am angry, and have adopted a fundamentalist view of religion after seeing a post on the internet from a guy with a cool bandana’. Whilst the book is available at the co-op bookshop there are also copies in the campus library. However, copies are limited and the librarian is getting quite sick of people not returning their books.”

“Ok lets begin. I would like everyone to pay attention now as I put on this vest. Please pay very close attention as I am only going to do this once.”

The newsreader is safer at 1 than DWZ, but the kid needs to put his body on the line ffs! He could have stopped that PNG storm player yesterday from scoring.

Katoa wasn't impressive in trails or when he got limited chances earlier.
He is showing the benefit of a few games in a row as are Meaney and Odgen.
The Storm really made us pay for our mistakes.
The intercept really changed the game but that side of the field was a shambles in defence for 20 mins afterwards.
Lewis likes to jamb in in defence and DWZ stays out, the winger has to jamb follow what the inside defenders are doing.
Our big problem is so far Lewis a-nd Wakeham are not consistent and not improving. Before last week I didn't think Lewis had what it takes, but he was good last week.
This week he seemed to crumble after throwing the intercept.
Of the 2 players Wakeham looks more like a natural half to me,  but his last couple of performances were not great.
It should take around 50 games if NRL for a young half to build his game, but after 20-30 games they should have more consistency and more good games than bad.
The odd bad game doesn't bother me but 50% or more is a worry.
So I think we need to sign Burton or another good you half who is reasonably consistent

It isn't odvious now but poor team selection and preparation cost us some momentum and confidence earlier in the season.

Perhaps we might have another 1-2 wins, but making the 8 was never going to happen.

Avoiding the spoon is down to the players.

The silver lining is Barrett is getting a good look at the side and seeing which players are up for the fight when the going gets tough.

Start next season with a stronger squad, better preparation and better team selection, the results should follow. The players will be just as sick of losing as we are.

So the challenge for Barrett is to do what Pay could never do, start the season well.

IMO JMK has been given multiple chances and has rarely impressed.
Last game Katoa was much better than even the best game from JMK this season.
I would like one other quality option at the club, the don't need to be a prove NRL performer, just a specalist 9 who is good in most areas.
I think we are headed for a fairly major cleanout and rebuild, 50%-70% of this years squad might not be here in 3 years, and we will not miss many if them.

Last years clean out resulted in the majority of them players not even picked up by other clubs.... I expect the same this off season.

Barrett needs to uncover one or two surprise no name signings that turn into solid first graders for us next year. The big $$$ need to be prioritised for a No.9 & a No.6/7.

If we pick up a good deal with a contracted player that’s been told to go & they foot half his bill, then that’ll be a bonus too especially if he’s a prop

This game in the rain looks fun!
Even better that the eels are about to lose!

Is this the wettest game ever?
Looks like they've had 200mm of rain since kickoff!

I loved playing sport in these conditions.

One game I remeber a swimming pool sized puddle in the middle of the field, the ball stopped in it, and  all players just looked at each other for a few secs.

The Sharks/Parra game.... (insert Benny Hill music here). Yeah I know it was wet but still 3 tries to 2 ... and a penalty right in front gifted Parrascum a win.

Parra got a lot of 50/50 calls, Sharks were the better side.
