Yeah, my recommendation for anyone wanting to buy one is to definitely try one on first. Allow for the sizing, and go up 2 sizes minimum. Edited by RedsUnited: 15/10/2012 05:07:55 PM

AGM was very good, sorry that I haven't posted anything on it but I completely forgot to bring in my notepad! First Committee meeting to occur within the next 14 days :)

Typed this up for OS Aussies but missed deadline thanks to kids :) Quote:The first home game each season for your club is normally one approached with a great deal of anticipation by both the core group of supporters, as well as a reasonable representation of the fringe supporters, those who either can only reach a small number of games each season or whose interest is dictated by form and opposition. This season for Adelaide United has been different. We approached the 2012/13 season coming off the back of what is acknowledged by the club, members and fans as close to an unmitigated disaster as you can get. Not only did we experience poor results during the season, conceding both the most goals and scoring the least, but also having watched the disintegration of what the playing group had come to represent to our city and State. This was in some ways rectified by the wonderful Asian Champion’s League campaign, but as a way of bringing back what had been lost only unmitigated success would have truly achieved it. So we come to the game against the unwieldy named NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers, a game which has no emotional connection for the fringes, and contained no elements that could spark the imagination of the theatre goers. Ask most people if they have heard of the Wanders marquee man Ono and the most common expression would be a blank one, about both the club and the player. All this in some ways explains the Central Coast Mariners-esque crowd that we experienced for those of you interested in that most fickle of all statistics, crowd numbers. Enough with all that waffle and your introduction to my writing, it is now on to the match itself!
Adelaide United came into the match with a line up tweaked only to accommodate the few niggling injuries the squad was carrying in order to protect the players, Dario Vidosic out with a recurrence of his hamstring complaint, Jon McKain his knee, Serginho van Dijk his calf and Zenon Caravella his groin. This caused John Kosmina to engage a slight change of personnel by handing a starting spot to Fabio Ferreira, one of the clubs three import, and low key, off season acquisitions. Once again we had Bruce Djite leading the line as our defence from the front backed up by Jeronimo Neumann coming out of midfield. Iain Ramsay assumed his now customary role playing wide left mid and Fabio assumed the same role on the right. Cameron Watson continued his ACL revival position in central midfield alongside a returning Osama Malik. An unchanged defence from the impressive win against Newcastle Jets featuring, from left to right, Cassio, Antony Golec, Nigel Boogaard and Daniel Bowles backed up by our captain Eugene Galekovic.
The match itself failed to burst into life against a team whose sole benchmark for the season is being competitive, something they will do by maintaining a compact shape and close lines. At almost no time did the Wanderers stretch over more than around 25 metres of the pitch from back line to front whenever they defended against us. The Wanderers were content to let us play the ball around and look to take advantage of the inevitable breakdown in our play and punish us via a well executed counter attack. This game plan, coupled with our lack of any X factor in midfield, made it extremely difficult for the players to unlock the structure the Wanderers maintained with great discipline for most of the match, and the first half ended 0-0 after an extended arm wrestle punctuated only by the odd meaningful thrust by either team.
The second half was a more open affair as each team began to feel the effects of either the new season, for the Wanderers, or extended jetlag, for United. Both coaches made well timed substitutions with all make good impacts when they entered the field of play. Noticeably for United, compared to the Wanderers, the overall quality of substitutions that we had at hand was far superior. Marcelo Carrusca coming in for Djite on 61 minutes allowed us to replace our defensive forward with an offensive midfielder/second striker and moved Jeronimo up the pitch. The resultant interplay between Ramsay, Neumann, Ferreira and Carrusca started to stretch the previously structured Wanderers defence well out of position. This then allowed us to create more space for our wide players, resulting in the foul and unlucky penalty decision against Nikolai Topor-Stanley on Ferreira. Jeronimo stepped up with confidence to take the kick but his tame effort was easily saved by Ante Covic. The match continued to open up with the Wanderers defence finding it more and more difficult to contain the rotating threat provided by our forwards. Jeronimo then struck a wonderful goal from open play when the Wanderers defence could not recover following a turnover, exacerbated by Topor-Stanley’s penchant for coming far too far up field without sufficient cover. United moved the ball forward efficiently and with purpose, Ramsay bore down on goal whilst his strike partners Jeronimo and Fabio provided well timed angled runs past the Wanderers defence. Ramsay then played a no look pass through to Jeronimo to put past the onrushing Covic and into the inside of the far post. Tellingly, for United’s fans, arriving at the same post was Fabio to ensure that if the angle of the ball was too wide he could guide it back into the net, an aspect of play that was completely absent in 2011/12.
At the end of the match the two sides were only separated by that one goal, but within it and the overall play of the side, along with the aggressive use of substitutes by Kosmina, we can see that there is definitely the potential for United to bring back to our fans the drive and ambition that made this club the People’s Team. It is with heightened anticipation that we can look towards our next match against the old enemy Melbourne Victory and their Judas marquee man, Flores.

I'd say we've got a pretty good track record with imports as well.

Great stuff GA
Shame AUFC forget to mention the idiotic 7pm start and stuff all marketing as a reason for the crowds...
That's more of a reason than 'we are paying a new team' garbage

We are football my ass I feel for all those that put their time and energy into it. Sad to see it get the flick - if that happens. I'm old enough to have seen the people with the money do this sort of undemocratic crap way too many times. I grew up in Port Adelaide and what has been done down there surreptitiously by politicians and people chasing $$'s is unbelievable.

We are football my ass optus are the ones apparently kicking up about it but hopeful that they incorporate a red out loud and the historical aspects into the optus Adelaide United website but agree adelaidereds have done more to engage the football supporters of Adelaide United then any of the centralised optus websites. Positive could be that it leads higher standard optus website.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm not as pissed off as I usually am after losing, especially to Melbourne. Maybe because it's balancing out the optimism from winning the first two rounds? Or maybe I'm just looking forward to the rest of the weekend, with the Sydney & F3 Derby coming up? :-k

Personally I think Boogard is a bit of a liability- too many red cards and own goals for mine. I would prefer seeing a Fyfe-Golec combo, and I just couldn't fathom why Fabio went off after he replaced Neumann with Carrusca. - Oh well coaches sometimes make weird decisions that only they agree with - that's why they get paid and I just watch.

Fabio had a poor match i think it was justified, carussca was also poor when he game on but to be fair he needs a few starts to adjust.
I think jeronimo is our number 1 striker now , even last night he did more in attack then bruce and serg did in most of the acl, maybe its a good idea to have one on though but with only 3 bench positons its hard to work out who should be pulled.
End of the day its one loss and still have won and after this week no one else would have wom more then us.
12k crowd at hindy next week and 3 points please

Jeronimo is not a spearhead- he needs to be on the ball, as an attacking midfielder. We have to score goals... as we are stuck with a poor defence. Boogard is rubbish, and Bowles is not settling in well. Even Cassio is slowing down. Golec is the pick of the bunch; bring in Fyfe maybe?

He used as a target man, which doesn't work! I think Robbie Slater was spot on when he said a false nine works vertically up and down the pitch, whereas Jeronimo was playing side to side. I take back my comments that Kossie has caught up.

Kossie was out smarted(he did it to himself) by his actions. I'd like to see one of our target men up front(Serge or Bruce), being fed by either Jeronimo, Dario or both playing in the hole, with support from Ramsey/Cassio on the left and Bowles/Ferriera on the Right. and for once I'd like us to concentrate when defending set pieces.

However, Ferreira, Jeronimo, Kostopolous and Van Dijk finish their contracts at the end of the season, so that would obviously leave some room if they don't re-sign.
