I still maintain my stance that we don't need Carlos. We can do so much better.

With Bruce we've got an action, strong man - now all we need is for him to have the smell of goal that Serg has got. I'd still like to see Serg, Jeronimo, Fabio, Vido & Carrusca start - but how do we fit them all in? I wonder if Fabio could be a RB? - but he's not really a defender ( pity we haven't got Zoran as a coach because he'd probably do it! - Anyone who could turn a RB like Mori into a #9 maybe what we really need ) Edited by redcup: 22/10/2012 05:32:23 PM

Having all these players on the pitch would leave Ramsay on the bench though. Would prefer to see him starting to be honest. Here is what you're asking for: ------------Eugene----------- Bowles--McKain--Golec--Brozzie ------------Malik------------ Fabio--Dario--Jerry--Carrusca ----------Van Dijk----------- Bench: Ramsay, Fyfe, Watson/Kostopoulos, Izzo. Here is what I'd like to see (similar to our match vs the Victory but with a DM replaced with an extra AM): ------------Eugene----------- Bowles--McKain--Golec--Brozzie ------------Malik------------ Fabio--Dario--Carrusca--Ramsay ------------Jerry------------ Bench: Fyfe, Watson, Van Dijk/Kostopoulos, Izzo. Either one of these line-ups looks damn potent! Boogaard is too inconsistent for me. His best is brilliant but his worse loses us too many games. I really rate McKain and want to see him start over Fyfe and Boogaard once he's fit. Fyfe hasn't really looked as solid since he returned from Korea.

That's a pretty good team. Not convinced by Bowles yet.
I would like to see United sign up a good young RB as a long term injury replacement for Teeboy. Then maybe Bowles wouldn't have a guaranteed spot.

For me, based on form so far this year - and natural prejudice... :)

It's not ideal having only one actual RB in our squad. Even Bowles would agree. No one to keep him on his toes. Although they are midfielders, maybe it's better if we use Barbs and Watson as reasons for Bowles to excel.

That looks pretty fine. Not a fan of Malik? Didn't even make your bench. I'd be tempted to have him on the bench instead of Bruce in this line-up. Bruce hardly offers any impact off the bench so I don't see the point, especially if SVD is starting. Having Malik as a sub for SVD could allow Jerry to go up front, Carrusca to step into the number 10 and Malik to partner McKain as a holding midfielder. Pretty solid options in my opinion. Nice for us to have these headaches for once!

Quite like your idea about swapping him for bruce on the bench though. I really like Brucie but...he's in need of a software update. Bowles only stays in my line-up because I think he might come good. Needs to be encouraged to actually defend. McKain might help him out with footballing intelligence.

My football journey: CassioFox Sports football commentator Simon Hill sits down with Adelaide United's Cassio in the second of a series of interviews with A-League players, charting their football journey, from childhood to the professional game. Describe your earliest memories of football growing up in Rio de Janeiro?I grew up with a ball like every Brazilian. I always wanted to become a footballer. I played with my friends in the streets, and then started playing futsal in the district of Freguesia. Later, I went to play for Barra Da Tijuca. I still have a house in Freguesia, and all my family live there, except my sister. She lives in Germany, and is married to the Bayer Leverkusen fitness coach, who was my fitness coach at Flamengo. I only found out after they’d been seeing each other for a few months! You were spotted by the Rio giants, Flamengo. How did that come about? I played a youth team game for Barra against them. A club director came and spoke to my dad. My parents were worried though. In Brazil, millions want to be a footballer, and Flamengo had a thousand players coming every month to trial, and only a few make it. I grew up playing in the same team as Adriano, Julio Cesar and Juan. Were Flamengo the team you supported?Yes. When I grew up, Flamengo had Zico, Junior, and they won everything. My dad and brother still go to watch Flamengo - although they have two teams now, Flamengo and Adelaide United! They were so proud when I signed my first pro contract in 1999. Do you remember your debut, and who were your favourite players as a youngster?I played against Botafogo off the bench. I played the last 25 minutes and we drew 1-1, and I made a good impression. I was so hungry for it. I wanted to stay there forever. Roberto Carlos was my idol - I loved watching him. Ronaldo, too - I remember the first time I met him, I was shaking! But you didn’t stay at Flamengo forever, you left on loan for Internacional. Why?In 2001, we played in the final of the Copa Mercosur championship against San Lorenzo. It ended all square after the second leg in Buenos Aires, and I missed the crucial penalty in the shootout. We had a domestic game three days later - and my own fans booed me. I was only 21, and after the game I was depressed. The media started speculating - and Internacional, Corinthians and Palmeiras came in for me. Internacional suggested I have a break from Flamengo for one year, and then go back. It was better when I returned, the fans had calmed down by then! Was that your worst experience in football? Not exactly. In 2001, we were fighting against relegation, and we lost a game to Sao Caetano. On our way back to the airport, the fans were very angry and threw rocks at the team bus, and one came through the window. I got hit on my head and had to have four stitches - I still have the scar. That’s the pressure we had there. You went on loan again a year later - with Atlas in Mexico?Yes, in 2003 Flamengo re-signed Athirson, the national team left-back who had been at Juventus. Atlas called, so I went. I thought it was a great experience, and financially it was good as well. After a couple of months though, there were problems with the loan fee, and I had to come back to Flamengo. Then you left Flamengo for good - joining Olimpia in Paraguay in 2004?After Mexico, I had an ACL reconstruction - and I couldn’t get back into the Flamengo team. Paraguay was a great move for me. The fans were so passionate, and the lifestyle was very good. The only problem there was the pitches - I’d say 70 per cent of the surfaces are below standard. After that, you had a stint in MLS with New England Revolution but only played three times. What happened there?Steve Nicol was the coach, and he came to Brazil to look at me and spoke to me. He was a very nice man. I signed a three year deal but I was homesick. We were based in Massachusetts - and normally I’m OK with staying in different places, but it was so cold! I came from 40 degrees in Brazil, the same in Paraguay, and I love the hot weather. In America, there was snow on the ground every day! My best friend in New England was Clint Dempsey, he helped me out with a lot of things, but my mind wasn’t really attuned to it. I have no bad words to say about the club. I just couldn’t give my best. How did the move to Adelaide come about?I had just finished with Santa Cruz in Brazil, but I was unsure about Adelaide. Then I spoke to a mate in Brazil, who said he thought I’d love it. It’s the best choice I ever made. Even though the money here compared to other countries isn’t great, it doesn’t matter. I’m very comfortable here. Is it fair to say then, that you and your family have found a home here?100 per cent. My little one was born here - my oldest was three, and now he’s nine. They don’t know much of elsewhere. Sometimes I feel it’s a bit sad for my family back home, but that’s football. We chose to go, and I don’t regret it.The kids now feel more Australian than Brazilian, and my wife Juliana and I are never homesick. As soon as we arrived, we both said - that’s the place for us! Who’s the best player you’ve played alongside at the Reds? Can I have two? Sasa Ognenovski - if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have got to the Asian Champions League final in 2008. The other one is Diego Walsh, he was a fantastic player. He’s in Thailand now - technically a great player, but a bit crazy! He could have played in Europe for years. You’re off contract in six months - will you be off on your travels, or is staying in Adelaide your first preference?
I’ll leave it up to God. I’m very loyal to the club, but I’m a professional. I still want to play a couple more years. If nothing comes from Adelaide, then I have to look at other options. I guess we are playing a 4-1-4-1 formation coz I have been told we r playing like this Galekovic Boweles-Fyfe-Golec-Cassio Malik Vidosic-Jerry-Carrusca-Ramsay SVD
With Bruce and Ferreira on the bench What a brilliant strike force, expect SVD to get at least 1 2nite. COYR!

And the little legend got the goal he deserved in his 100th A-League game. We'll be sitting in the Cassio Stand in a few years. A great place to 'watch' a game from. :d (Cue groans.) Such a shame all the good has been obscured by moral outrage at an inappropriate tumble.

Anyone keen for a get together this Sunday for the game get to the Joiner's Arms prior to kick off. Also back home from the first AUMC Inc meeting, just myself, Jim and Glenn were in attendance and was used more as a way to get to know each other and the reasoning behind the Incorporated body and some aims for it. I wont talk about a lot of stuff in a public forum but can confirm that the long term aim is for AUMC Inc to become part of the ownership of AUFC Pty Ltd.

Really General, I know that you've been elected to the committee and all that but surely the correct change of thread title would be, "The AUFC Diving Pissants - All your Jeronimos are mine"? Lift your game. :d

Thought I'd open up this question to the rest of us Adelaide fans from another thread (if that's ok Schultzy) I believe it IS an issue and perhaps one as a financial member who never attends meetings will actually have to rock up and ask what the club's views are when the next one happens to take place. Davide82 wrote:Schultzy wrote:Davide82 wrote:Schultzy wrote:I hadnt realised until now that Adelaide now (advertiser website) had changed the title to football, I'm unsure about the advertiser itself as I don't buy it, last time I looked it was still "soccer". We need another football journalist down here for us to get any positive news and get rid of vals personal grudge Does anyone know what this actually is? Is it a new owner's thing? Is it A Flores thing? Is it a Kossie thing? A Dom Rinaldo thing? A yearning for Bianco days thing? (was he treated to more bbqs back then?) Even Vidmar's famous pissant rant had the quote to him " you should know, you're part of it" re the politics in the club he blames for our capitulation vs Victory.Or is he just that type of "journalist" for that type of newspaper where negativity sells/gets page hits? Either way it's just boring now and kinda sad. I always thought that was to val but never had it comfirmed. I really dont know, it is outright pathetic now, and imo is indirectly affecting the game here, the more he writes in such a negative asshole way the worse of the club, especially with adelaide being a one paper town. I tend to agree it has an adverse effect on crowds etc but to admit that would give Val a hard on to think he has any power so lets keep that :-$ yeah someone on twitter posted the famous rant before the last MV game and it's Val's voice asking Vidmar to name names to which he replied the above answer What do any of the rest of us think it's all about? He's always been a BIT of a pain but served us well with keeping us in the paper and we were all always grateful for that I really feel it's turned quite sour, more than ever, of late though and just does more harm than good. Val is a strange one. He attends all the home games and supports the guys but for me personally i don't think he likes how the club is run and that it is owned by AFL heads. Think he needs to get over it.
I remember when the whole Flores victory think come out he berated the owners saying they should of spent more only to realize Adelaide did make an offer and Flores rejected it 3 months earlier.
And then when he got another chance to have a dig at the owners for not trying to sign DP when he said 3 months earlier he could be interested in coming to Australia but someone said he is to old. Which by the way was not made by any owners or scouts anyone who decided who comes to the club. It was just someone attached to the club.
I think he just as Sour grapes his relationship i think with Adelaide united is not what it used to be and he is a bit Butt hurt about it still.
