Val is good mates with some of the player agents (like Cassio's and Doddgy's for example), he is good mates with some people who were part of the club and who were let go after abusing the clubs trust talking to Val, he burnt his bridges with the club with out regard for the consequences, and most importantly he has an editor that appears to push him down this path.

Davide82 wrote:Schultzy wrote:Davide82 wrote:Schultzy wrote:I hadnt realised until now that Adelaide now (advertiser website) had changed the title to football, I'm unsure about the advertiser itself as I don't buy it, last time I looked it was still "soccer". We need another football journalist down here for us to get any positive news and get rid of vals personal grudge Does anyone know what this actually is? Is it a new owner's thing? Is it A Flores thing? Is it a Kossie thing? A Dom Rinaldo thing? A yearning for Bianco days thing? (was he treated to more bbqs back then?) Even Vidmar's famous pissant rant had the quote to him " you should know, you're part of it" re the politics in the club he blames for our capitulation vs Victory.Or is he just that type of "journalist" for that type of newspaper where negativity sells/gets page hits? Either way it's just boring now and kinda sad. I always thought that was to val but never had it comfirmed. I really dont know, it is outright pathetic now, and imo is indirectly affecting the game here, the more he writes in such a negative asshole way the worse of the club, especially with adelaide being a one paper town. I tend to agree it has an adverse effect on crowds etc but to admit that would give Val a hard on to think he has any power so lets keep that :-$ yeah someone on twitter posted the famous rant before the last MV game and it's Val's voice asking Vidmar to name names to which he replied the above answer What do any of the rest of us think it's all about? He's always been a BIT of a pain but served us well with keeping us in the paper and we were all always grateful for that I really feel it's turned quite sour, more than ever, of late though and just does more harm than good. Edited by davide82: 1/11/2012 04:38:47 PM Careful Davide, you may get blocked by him on Twitter ;) The theme about the owners being tight and the new Gold Coast has been running through his articles for a while. If you can ignore those bits his reporting hasn't been too bad. For example, the fact we have so many uncontracted players coming up is a good discussion point. Does he have to say that Kossie is doing the same as Clive? Of course not, it's no where near the same thing. It would be nice if he did write the odd article about how well we are playing at the moment but I'm cool with it. Re: crowds, I don't think his articles are causing us too many problems. I think we will be waiting for the next big game to attract the casuals. If the team can put on a good performance, we might start seeing them come back.

Re te crowds - I've talked about it here & I've asked GA to ask about my issue at the next meeting...
I don't care if Messi plays with us - no one is going to go to a game if they don't know it's on...and only the diehards will know because our match day advertising is non existent...As I have said before, every time I say I'm going to a Reds game, I get blank stares & get asked 'oh is there a game on?' En just to make me even more infuriated, after telling them that there is I get 'oh if I knew earlier, I would of gone'.... That riles me no end....
Yesterday the AFL had the draw out, on MMM they talked to a person from Port who said the following day they would release their membership drive from 2013 - some clubs have started beginning of October...5 MONTHS before the season starts.
What do we have in the A-league, 1 stock standard video a month out...
And you wonder why only diehards turn out to the games...

I'm sure he doesn't pay like us. and supports the guys - in what capacity? but for me personally i don't think he likes how the club is run and that it is owned by AFL heads. Think he needs to get over it.
I remember when the whole Flores victory think come out he berated the owners saying they should of spent more only to realize Adelaide did make an offer and Flores rejected it 3 months earlier.
And then when he got another chance to have a dig at the owners for not trying to sign DP when he said 3 months earlier he could be interested in coming to Australia but someone said he is to old. Which by the way was not made by any owners or scouts anyone who decided who comes to the club. It was just someone attached to the club.
I think he just as Sour grapes his relationship i think with Adelaide united is not what it used to be and he is a bit Butt hurt about it still.
Edited by liverpoolfan2010: 1/11/2012 05:23:33 PM I agree with all the rest of your post though He has said on twitter he supports united and he attends the home games. But that is if he actually DOES or not lol Edited by liverpoolfan2010: 1/11/2012 10:56:06 PM

Edited by unitedgal: 1/11/2012 10:56:17 PM Good points. But I personally believe the whole non exposure of football by our football club is a combination of trying to keep our code as clear " downstairs staff ", and a staunch " we'll be #1 because we're the biggest code ", or a " we'll show you bastards that have taunted us for so long " However, it's more than likely to be the cynical prick inside my head remembering the racist comments of High School and in-action by the teaching staff. - revenge is a dish best served cold. We needed bums on seats & with our season starting just before AFL/NRL finals we need to more proactive then ever
Other football codes are lightyears ahead when it comes to marketing PERIOD

We continue to play well and good football the Bums on seats will be back. All we can do is keep going and supporting and bring as many people along as we can.

We really did lose a lot of fans last season between the shite football, Coolen and Flores leaving etc
I always knew it woudl take a while to get them to come back
I thought the decent ACL run would have saved us and have been pretty surprised by the two 8.5k turn outs
Resigned myself to the fact now that we will have to keep up this good run and win all our home games and it will take till close to the finals to believe we are back as a force and bother to show up.
Still, our best start to the season since we were run away premiers under Kossie in Season 1 is a decent start to a season!!!!!!!!!
I'm starting to get VERY excited about this year but am trying to keep a lid on it :d

Just of the media/marketing side of things: They are looking at working with radio etc, they spent too much money with the Advertiser and it impacted big time on what they can do. Also the media here in Adelaide isn't responsive to AUFC, they don't do anything with the club's media releases or send anyone along to them. The club is more than happy for players and staff etc to be interviewed but it just isn't happening.

I'd be happy to volunteer my services with design of flyers/promotional material but I don't think they'd find that very useful. Not sure what else I could really offer.

Something I should stipulate is that I am talking about volunteering to assist the members club, AUFC always needs people to volunteer to assist with match days and training sesssions so if you have the free time and are happy to do some of the mundane day to day stuff needed by all clubs (setting up cones etc etc) then call the club and offer your services. The members club will need people who can provide that donkey work in time, but for now it is more along the lines of peoples skills. Design, marketing, sound, video, programing etc etc. all sorts of different skill sets can be made of use as different ideas and programs get investigated. PM me your details if you are interested and I will add you to the database.

While the media is screwing au over. I beleive we as fans can do so much to make up for it. Its as easy as retweeting anything adelaide united on twitter or talking the reds up on facies regularly. It sounds small amd insignificant but so many things have developeda massive. Following just by social networking
