This is bordering on ridiculous.  Player holds back of neck, stays down, bunker looks at tackle, on report, penalty.  The ref is looking directly at the tackle but took no action.  Is this a refereeing deficiency?

I reckon Melbourne Storm should rename themselves the Melbourne Crusher Tacklers....

Its almost (and I use the term loosely here) like they train to twist or turn the player and then compress him downwards. Just about every 2nd tackle is a crusher to some degree.

If they are in a high risk crusher situation while making a tackle and had the choice to release the player and retackle him proper, or crush him, they'll choose to crush him. They are trained for it.

May as well be sponsored by KFC crusher drink range.....

Marki, instead of blaming just the tacklers take a look at some of these tackles. There are times when the attacking player reaches the defensive live they turn to face their own goal line and drive with their legs to gain more yardage then they sit to prevent being forced back. To me they put themselves in that position and unfortunately a lot end up as a crusher type tackle.

There are a whole range of situations, techniques and other contributing factors involved.  The referee rarely detects it himself, but the player can usually get a penalty as soon as he feels any pressure if he starts the process I mentioned earlier.

Well, marki & Zef....

I finally got around to watching that "Sixth Sense" movie last night that you insisted I should see. I haven't watched any of the extras on the blu-ray, but there seems quite a few on it. Looking through my emails, it was approx 11 months ago that it was ordered, way back when the talk on plagiarism & lack of originality in movies & tv was going on at the time, with Batman, Dracula & so on. Just the usual banter during the off-season on here. I wonder what we'll come up with this November...

No doubt there are players that do that and Sivo is one of them as is Klem.

But the storm players have a choice of either dropping on the player or not, and 9 times out of 10 they drop.

But the storm players have a choice of either dropping on the player or not, and 9 times out of 10 they drop.

Both parties are at fault, the refs should just call a dominant tackle when a player backs in.

The defence then doesn't need to drop, but they can hold down.
Players will soon stop backing in.

Left unchecked sooner or later a crusher is going to end badly, hand out the big suspensions before that happens.

The Storm are a team I admire in many ways, but I have never liked their tackling style.

So......what is your verdict?

I have it in my top 10

I didn't regret buying it. It was different & not what I expected. I didn't read the blurb or anything about it first. I wasn't constantly looking at the clock & it was watchable to the end.
When we all spoke about movies back last year, I said I was hard to please one way or another these days. Many I can't even finish watching, some I finish but regret it & most I feel like I've seen it before, just in a different setting or whatever (with the latest writer thinking they thought of the same old ideas first). With this one they did something different & that's a thumbs up from me. I'm not convinced I'd go so far as saying one of the best 10 of all time. It wasn't anywhere near one of the worst 10 of all time, that's the main thing. Having only seen it once & only having overnight to take it in, there's a chance there's more to it than meets the eye, maybe a 2nd look one day will reveal more to it, also there might be further background to it amongst the extras.

, maybe a 2nd look one day will reveal more to it, also there might be further background to it amongst the extras.

A second look reveals how well Shyamalan hid the twist in plain sight - he's actually telling you the truth about Willis all through the movie, at times bluntly - "I see dead people". But he masterfully diverts your attention away from what you're actually seeing. When you watch it knowing the twist you're stunned how obvious the whole thing is. Even from, and maybe especially from, the very first scene.

This movie suffers somewhat unfairly from time and cliche. Every time a movie has come out since with a twist people go "Oh a Sixth Sense again, tired old trick." And so a lot of people who've seen the movie for the first time years after it's release sort of dismiss it as cliche because they've seen it before in the ones that copied it.

But it's the original and the best. NOBODY delivered a stunner twist like that in any movie before or since nor did it better.

That's exactly it. First thought after finishing it was how it'd put the whole thing in a different context watching it again. Spoilers have dropped & it'll never be the same again. That aside, I get the feeling there was more to it that I've missed. We were all led down the garden path by it first watch which can throw your thoughts off what's really being shown. If I get around to watching the extras, I'll be hoping for something on where the idea for it came from, that kind of thing, not just what sandwiches they had on the set etc.
The guy that made it also made Wayward Pines. That wasn't a bad show. It had something similar to "Lost" going for it for a while, kept you looking forward to more & wondering what in the world... It just seemed to fizzle out towards the end & there wasn't anywhere else much they could take it, so it simply ended.

For me its one of those movies that when i got to the end (the punch line) i felt compelled to watch it all over again (immediately).
And when you watch it again, you realise how masterfully it was done.

I think the aussies that did The Usual Suspects did a great job on a pretty small budget.
But this one is something special.

Theres a Nicole Kidman film called "The Others" that came after The 6th Sense and while it fed off the success of it, i also enjoyed.

If you want a real mystery/haunting film, watch "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" but Yiorgos Lanthimnos.
Slightly odd, but will leave a lasting effect on you.

I think the old saying is any press is good press...

And our press has only been slightly if at all better than theirs....

No doubt however the overseers at Kia will be asking a few hard questions of their marketing/brainwashing/external comms manager/sponsorship and community team/ or revenue and blah Val whatever that Corp calls them...
