I’m actually really keen to see Midjylland vs Young Boys. I think the Swiss league could potentially be an addition to the Holy Trinity given how much it has improved recently. It’s rated in the top 10 in Europe in some lists and beats out Greece, Denmark & Scotland, which have also been regular landing places for our players.

Freiburg head coach had a press briefing at the end of their pre-season camp and the decision is they want to send Borrello and another bloke out on loan and they are going to keep a 20 year old Korean prospect around.

https://www.kicker.de/783160/artikel

about the loan candidates Mohamed Dräger, Brandon Borrello and Woo-Yeong Jeong: "The boys need perspectives so that they can come to play. Brandon trained well and quality. In between it was difficult last season because he played little. At For him and Mo Dräger we look for clubs where they are used more often. Woo-Yeong has made a good development, is still physically different. He's a very good boy anyway, very hardworking and is right in the middle of the team, I am very happy with him. He should stay here with us. "

War and peace, but if you are after a read, here is the August month in review...
Domestic club football:
United Kingdom - leagues in England are set to resume in September however the Scottish Premier League has returned with a few Aussies featuring.  Martin Boyle has been the headline  playing the full game in each of their fixtures.  He scored a brace on opening day, and his form has been rewarded with a 3 year contract extension. Tom Rogic seemingly is in a contractual stand off, being an unused sub once in the league and once in the Champions League. Lyndon Dykes made 3 starts, playing a full 90 minutes in each game, and scoring twice, before earning his transfer to QPR. Lower leagues in Scotland resume in October.
Continental Europe - football in Finland has been back for a while now with Peter Makrillos (IFK Mariehamn) getting a good run of minutes, starting all six games and scoring twice.  Also in Scandinavia, Joey Gibbs has been starting at Keflavik IF (Iceland 2nd tier).  He added another six goals, to take his tally to 14 for the season after 12 games, which he started in all.  In the women’s league, Angie Beard (KR) and Laura Hughes (Throtter) continue to play each week in Iceland.  Plenty of Aussie representation in Norway, with 5 Aussie females now playing in the Toppserien.  All are playing each week, but Lillestrom (Rostbakken) and Avaldsnes (Polinghorne and Gorry) are best positioned for Champions League football. Emily Gielnik is now playing for Vittsjo in Sweden, and is on a fantastic run, scoring in each of her past three fixtures. Both Hannah Bacon (AGF) and Indiah-Paige Riley (Fortuna Hjorring) have been getting minutes in Denmark. Isobel Dalton made her debut for Napoli during August. The resumption of the Belgium league saw the return of Danny Vukovic from his achilles injury.  He has started the first four games, but a return of 5 points is below expectations.  In Croatia, Fran Karacic played a full 90 in the cup final (2019/20) but unfortunately lost to Rijeka 1-0. To date, he has been used sparingly in the league.  Great Aussies Abroad news at HNK Sibenik, with Deni Juric transferring in the off-season.  The club is yet to register a point unfortunately but Deni has now made his full debut, after coming off the bench in his club debut. Eighteen year old defender, Doni Grdic, has been an unused sub in those three games. Anthony Kalik has started two of the first three games for high flying HNK Gorica. Nikita Rukavytsya represented Maccabi Haifa in several cup games in August before they were knocked out of the competition. The league recently resumed in Israel, with Ruka scoring a brace in the first game. In Lithuania, we have two Aussies at Vilnius Vytis (2nd tier).  Kody Maude and Corey Cuelho are playing each week however their club have lost their last two games, dropping them back to mid-table as they chase promotion. Tomi Juric has just returned to the match day squad at CSKA Sofia.
Asia and the Middle East - the Stars League (Qatar) has concluded with Isaias playing every minute of the season, while Shane Lowry made 21 starts from the 22 game season.  Both clubs finished mid-table. Saudi Arabia is intriguing from an Aussies Abroad perspective at the moment.  Brad Jones and Craig Goodwin continue to play each week, but we now have a few players that have transferred or are in the process of transferring to that league.  Don’t forget we also have Jack Duncan and Rhys Williams in the second tier, with their club, Al Qadsiah, on the verge of promotion with a handful of games to go. A very promising month for our Aussies in Japan.  Mitch Langerak has started every game for Nagoya Grampus, they are currently sitting fourth in the league with the fewest goals conceded.  Thomas Deng looks to have made a break through at Urawa Reds, having now made nine starts, and also scoring an impressive debut goal!! In the second tier in Japan, defender Jason Geria started 5 games for the month at JEF United, who are currently on a 3 game losing streak and have slipped to mid-table. A mixed month for our Aussies in Korea.  Suwon Bluewings are struggling again this season but Adam Taggart and Terry Antonis continue to play most fixtures.  Incheon United are at the foot of the table, with Rashid Mahazi failing to put together a consistent run of games so far this season. Brandon O’Neill has been having a very solid season at Pohang, but hasn’t appeared for the past few weeks, perhaps injured? Jason Davidson hasn’t featured for Ulsan since June, and given their recent signings, he should be looking to move on. The Malaysia Super League resumed last weekend with Taylor Regan, Anthony Golec, and David Rowley all featuring.
Americas and Africa - Andy Rose remains at Vancouver in the MLS, starting most weeks.  In the lower leagues of the USA, Mitch Osmond (Indy Eleven), Antonee Burke-Gilroy (Tacoma Defiance), Lachlan McLean (Greenville) and Josh Phelps (Tormenta) are all playing regularly. Up north in the Canadian Premier League, centre back Luca Gasparotto has played every minute of the first five games.  Kearyn Baccus has just returned to the starting line up at Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa. They are top of the table win two games to go, but form is not on their side, having collected 1 point from their past four fixtures, most recently giving up a 94th winner!!
International Club football:
European Champions League - in the quarter finals of the women’s Champions League, several Aussies were involved with Alex Chidiac (Atletico Madrid), Aoife Colvill (Glasgow City), Steph Catley (Arsenal) and Caitlin Foord (Arsenal) all getting minutes off the bench but their teams were knocked out. Congratulations to Ellie Carpenter (Lyon), who progressed to the tournament final and won, with Ellie being an unused sub in all three finals. Qualifying is under way for the men’s 2021/21 competition with Tom Rogic not appearing and Celtic knocked out in the second round. Better news for Milos Degenek, starting both fixtures for Crvena Zvezda as they progressed to the third round. Awer Mabil played 90 minutes for Midtjylland as they also progressed to the next round.
Europa League - qualifiers also being played during August with limited Aussies featuring. Alex Gersbach (AGF) and Gol Gol Mebrahtu (Puskas Academy) were not named, however Tomi Juric found himself back on the bench for CSKA Sofia after recovering from COVID19. Unfortunately he didn’t see any game time but his team have progressed.Asian Champions League - postponedAFC Cup - postponed
UEFA Youth League - Antonis Martis started and Hosine Bility was an used sub as Midtjylland were eliminated by Ajax.  Congrats to tournament winners Real Madrid.
National:Unfortunately the national teams haven’t played since the pandemic started.  Only real news is Lyndon Dykes being named in the Scotland squad for the Nations League fixtures in September.  Unfortunately he looks like dropping off the Aussies Abroad radar.
Coaches:Much of the focus for August is on our coaches in Japan. Ange Postecoglou is managing the reigning title holders, Yokohama F-Marinos.  After a slow start, his team have accumulated a few points during August to now sit sixth. Former assistant to Ange, Peter Cklamovski is now head coach of Shimizu S-Pulse.  They continue to struggle, losing their past three games to sit at 16th in an 18 team league. Joining the group of Aussie coaches abroad is Kevin Muscat. He has started life at Sint-Truiden fairly well, gaining 5 points in the first four fixtures of the campaign. In Malaysia, Mehmet Durakovic continues to manage Perak, losing on the opening weekend

A full season in the 2.B would be good. Not sure if any other top league clubs would go for him.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Tyrese Francois played a half and got a few mentions in the Fulham match report a couple days a go. Would be happy if he got a loan as I can't see chances forthcoming in the prem. They even just signed Mario Lemina on loan from Southampton

https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2020/august/Fulham-2-2-MK-Dons/

An all new Fulham XI pierced through the Dons backline a minute into the second half, culminating in Kamara laying off to Tyrese Francois, who smashed one over the target.

Francois’ fellow Academy teammate Fabio Carvalho was next to try his luck, but the goalkeeper got down to keep out his daisy cutter from 20 yards.

A half chance following a swift counter fell to Francois in the box. He tried to place one inside the far post but it went agonisingly the wrong side of the upright

Great roundup! The one that’s interesting on that list is Rafael Rech the son of former Brazilian Adelaide United striker Fernando Rech and it’s interesting he’s listed as Australian.

Could he play for us if he turns out to be any good?

His dad has Aussie citizenship, so would be more than likely. Fernando also had a number of years in Brisbane. Was a great player.

His Brazilian club has him listed as Australian. FOX Sports did a piece on him earlier in the year were he is quoted as wanting to play for Australia. Definitely worth keeping an eye on him.

A full season in the 2.B would be good. Not sure if any other top league clubs would go for him.

Fortuna it is.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

After returning from injury, Dylan Ryan has been added to Willem II’s first team squad for the upcoming season, and has been handed the #12 shirt.

I’m super bullish on Dylan Ryan after the recent Olyroos tournament. Really think he’ll make a great go of his career in the Eredivisie.

That's a sign I think. He had a full year on the bench but hopefully he can break through this season.

Amini back to AGF. Nearly put this in the transfer thread as AGF->Free agent->AGF.

Edit: should add this is a very short term contract going only til December 31

Interesting, no doubt has his eye on a bigger move in Europe once things calm down.

ahhh thats interesting. didn't notice that. Still, how good is it to have a club that will go above and beyond to support a player and his family.

Antonis with a deadly diagonal ball to the back post but his teammate smacks the crossbar.

Not sure if it was mentioned but Declan Lambert came on in the 85th minute for Den Bosch in the first round of the Eerste Divisie last weekend.
