And with Malik at right back it also means that Bowles is now in direct competition with Evan for the RW position.

At this stage of the season we would want a proven performer to contribute towards the finals (that's what we've lost) rather than a youth player, he's a low cost replacement for mismanaging serg.

Serge was contributing nothing when he did get on the pitch, it's been a long time since Serge has looked anything but average. This guy is 189cm and can play as a winger so is obviously mobile for a big lad, and the 1 small youtube clip i have seen of him makes him look 100x better than Serge with the ball at his feet. One would assume he showed something as a junior to head over to Croatia at a young age from Sydney United. But yeah he's not a proven thing but we have 2 known strikers in Bruce and Jerry, taking a punt on this lad seems a decent call for me.

I thought a 21 yr old isn't the type of player we should be bringing in for performance in finals, maybe we'll get lucky who knows. The him not being a replacement for Serg angle is folly, they play similar positions and serg was forced out, this wasn't a change to balance the squad. lol

Agree i was questioning the timing, he seems like a off-season long term signing, but we signed him to a short term deal. I would take an old-middle aged signing for the short term in the hope that they can contribute a little more consistently for finals even if they didn't have the same potential long term. Hope that explains what i was attempting to get across.

Serge wanted to go and when he did get game time he was slower than a week of wet Wednesdays - looked like he gave less of a crap than I do about Nicky Minaj.
For once the club has moved to strengthen the squad before the finals rather than just limping through as players are sold or released and people are complaining? a 189cm young striker who was playing in the Cro top flight. I'm at least hopeful this could be good for us. Especially if Bruce can't get himself 100% as we head into finals

Unlikely I think unless culinas agent rings united and says hey any possibility you might want him then we wont see him here.

With Perth Glory now looking for a coach i wonder how out interview process is coming along. It shouldn't take any more than a month and we have a head start on them, which we are hopefully using to our advantage. If Perth announce their coach before us i will be disappointed.

I don't care how long it takes if the selection panel can pick the right candidate for the job.

Is that you Mike? lol To expand further unless we're bringing in an overseas coach the amount of talent out there is reasonably thin, there is one decent proven a-league coach: Merrick (Bleiberg, Fergie and Culina didn't have enough success for mine) and one decent a-league assistant (former): stubbins. It would be in our interests to pick the right coach before Perth picks their right one and this is not to suggest that the process be comprimised in any way of course. lol

If you are looking for us to sign someone before the end of the season you will be disappointed valkanis has the boys untill the off season then a new coach will be announced if it is not valkanis but like the club said he has the advantage of a 7 week plus finals apprenticeship. Arnold was roundly criticized for his Asian cup role, and both he and Ange copped it for their management of the young Socceroos. Popovich's career at Crystal Palace was trophy free as well - yet these local guys have shown that they have the steel to get a local team into silverware winning mode. Rini came from F.C. Twente, who have a reasonable culture of success, yet he, himself didn't, and we all know what happened. So, n my opinion, you're thoughts don't seem to hold water.

I fully expect the central striker spot to be kept by Bruce and Jeronimo; Juric likely to be the right-sided option, where the likes of Kostopoulos will see some more rotation (and more when Ferreira comes back from injury or Awer Mabil gets a better foothold in the squad).
As for Sergio's situation, it was a lot more... er, complex than what was in the media. He never wanted to go to another A-League club (and I really don't know how some journalists were getting that idea), he always wanted to leave Australia. His family left the country last March and the problems go back more than 12 months, so this season - regardless of anything else - would've been difficult. Adelaide United wouldn't accept offers unless they were of a particular monetary value for them; problem is, rejecting offers so only so much money is a huge loss for them, for the simple reason that they were spending their marquee wage on a player that they weren't playing. To quote, "The club only have (had) money in their eyes."
What happened with the club and Sergio, with Kosmina and Sergio, with Kosmina himself, etc., behind closed doors, is something I'm not privvy to - and, really, nor is anyone else outside the club itself, but I know a lot of the speculation that came from the media wasn't accurate.
Same goes for this whole "New Coach Expedition" lark. It's on, it's not on, it's on, it's not on, we're waiting, we're doing it now. Who knows? Do they even know their plan?
