Has Watson been moved back into midfield during the pre season now that you have Bowles and Elrich? Would you rather see Barker-Daish fill in for Isaias or Watson?

Yep, back into midfield. Would much prefer us to have JBD in over Watson.

Yes I think Watson is now a backup midfield option only except as a last resort.
Barker-Daish is a more attacking player, not really a DM. That is so much so that with Djite being injured he was tried as a false 9 during preseason.
So Watson is probably the more like for like replacement for Isaias. Malik will replace Isaias on the field and perhaps Watson will take Malik's place on the bench.
Barker-Daish is the better player. Barker-Daish could come onto the bench but if Malik needed to be replaced it would probably need Lustica to drop back to replace him and Barker-Daish to come on at take Lustica's place.

He's been playing in midfield mostly.

Personally I'd have put Golec in for Boogard. Malik in for Isaias and then put Barker-Daish on the bench to replace Lustica later on in the game.

I really rate both Golec and Barker-Daish but they always seem on the outer. There must be something about the way they train or something as I always think they perform pretty well when they play for us :-k

I would have no problem with Malik to CB if Isaias was playing, Malik is incrediably unlucky not to be starting every week given his ability, so every time he gets the chance I would love him to play. But with Watson at CDM, which I think is Malik's best position, I am not too sure. I guess we will have to trust in Gombau, he has seen who is playing how he wants and who is most capable of doing what he wants, Watson may surprise.

It was interesting after Boogaard got sent off last week Malik went to CB with Bowles staying at RB, Elrich RW. But it then quite quickly changed with Malik going back to CDM, Bowles coming into CB, Elrich to RB. I guess it was something to do with Malik having fresher legs so perhaps covering more ground. Bowles is reasonably tall and won a few headers in there so it was probably the right move, but if Malik is meant to be a real CB option it does seem strange he did not stay filling in at CB.

I think it must be something other than ability. The talk earlier was he might be in line to be a starting CB and then he just disappeared. But all the talk might be wrong and he might start tomorrow night.

I am not holding out hope, that rumor surfaced about him going to WSW and then he just stopped being played :/

Agree 100% on trusting Gombau. If Malik goes to CB and fails when he has 2 CBs one riding the p̶i̶n̶e̶ the bunnings chair and another in the stands then we'll be right to criticise him.

I put it down to the fact they probably never trained with 9 men and we're trying to work out what to do.

We seemed to work out what to do very quickly whereas Perth never worked out what to do. The best thing you could say about their play was they were trying to expose Bowles in the air but I doubt that was even a plan and Bowles had no problems in the air. We did well to release Cirio a couple of times which perhaps discouraged them from over committing forward.

I tried to get a sneaky look through the fence tonight but couldn't really see much of the pitch and certainly couldn't see who was in the back 4. If Golec isn't getting a look in it would have to be for a reason, Josep's very methodical. I'd like to see Elsey get a run but I'm not sure this is the game for it. He's got the ability just lacking in experience and facing Thompson, Troisi and Barbarouses, I wouldn't mind a defender with a few more games under his belt.

I said it elsewhere, we are finally seeing an AUFC that has been learning how to be flexible in their game plan. They actively sought out answers to the problems that PG presented them. That to me says that Gumby is the best coach we have ever had.

Agreed. I don't mind Gumby making some bold decisions like this though. Backing in youth players that are he thinks are up to it is something we should be encouraging. Against Victory would be a massive statement though!

worried this could be rini 2

before the abuse i wrote a post about it about a week ago players not saying who in the club are already worried about selection choices and fitness levels. Hope it does not end up like it but that victory game is worrying.

You have a good proven CB and you leave him out and then play players out of position and swap them around during the game. Would never of needed to do that if you chose the right people to begin with.

elrich golec mckain zullo alot better i would of thought for tonight but i guess it just me seeying this and already worrying but that is just one example.

Golec in at CB surely?

Supposedly on the complete outer, don't understand why.

I think it must be something other than ability. The talk earlier was he might be in line to be a starting CB and then he just disappeared. But all the talk might be wrong and he might start tomorrow night.

I am not holding out hope, that rumor surfaced about him going to WSW and then he just stopped being played :/

I would say it more looks like a kosmina>Mckain
Gumbo>Golec situation

I don't agree with the selection decisions but we still played infinitely better than any time under rini.

I think by rini 2 im meaning the fitness side rini underestimated what fitness level it should be.
Hopefully the same thing has not happened again like we saw tonight 60 minute and we were done.
and did we really play better in the second half then under rini not sure.
