Warm dry fields, fast ruck, attacks well honed, most of the high scores can be explained, but teams are lacking some intensity and organisation in defence, complacency is a factor for the favourites.

Look, stop blaming the press. They are getting direct quotes with names attached, many of them sponsors. So this ain’t no made up story. And yes, of course the press will fan the flames, does that surprise you in any way at all? The problem though is who started the fire and how do we put it out and the press ain’t gonna matter when it comes to that. Its simple really. Club reviewed SC mess and told us we had a couple of years of pain, and it was well documented that we would have a heap of players off contract end of this year and a war chest for 2021 and beyond. To not have any high profile signings for next year and flirting with the spoon for nearly the whole year, it's no surprise supporters are starting to question the effectiveness of this board. It's not a matter of doing right instead of wrong. Anyone can do that. It's about doing right in the most efficient way, and that is what they are judged on. Coz they are in competition with 15 other teams. You have to be better than most of them to suggest your board is doing a good job. I think maybe we judge too early. Who have we signed. Cotric, Green and Waddell. Doorey will obviously be upgraded to top 30. We let 8 go, so 4 still to be added. Coach involved with a team still active. Need to hold judgement for a little while. Remember 2021 was only to be year 1 of our rebirth.

We now have the cash to aim higher we are after quality not necessarily names, there are not many big name quality players off contract. Guys like Jack Bird and Milford are names, they are a gamble. Cam Smith is proven quality, but I don't want him in our colours.

I understand all of the signings so far Green getting injured is unfortunate, Cotric in the centres is a bold gamble but may pay off. Again you need to be realistic about who is off contract and who we can get. I assume Baz has an input... There are a few players I would like us to sign, some of the names have been mentioned. All of the players we left go were good decisions, we need to let a few more go at the end of 21.

It is also odvious to me that teams are struggling to defend with the new rules.
Increasingly defence will give teams a chance, with Thompson, Jackson and Elliott we have mobile forwards who a good defenders who still offer something in attack.
Ideally a hooker would be similar good in attack and defence.
To go with our mobile forwards we need bigger forwards who can dent the line.
Centres and wingers speed size and good defence are important.
We need a half with a cool head and a good kicking game.
Baz may be able to get the best out of Lewis, Wakeham and Averillo.
We can revisit thus after 5 rounds, the club is overdue for a good start to the season, I expect a significant improvement.

Both TB and the club may have some aces up their sleeve before kickoff next year. Or maybe TB has asked management to just give him 6 months to sort the forest from the trees.... either way, it is a risk for the board as it has some fans (and powerbrokers) already concerned for next year and may lead to internal unrest. It already is.

The overlap with the NRL is there is no substitute for workrate, speed, defensive structure, team work, team spirit, depth and quality players.
Dogs 2020 didn't have the depth and quality.
Our team does have workrate and team spirit, and in depth, quality and a bit more speed the rest is coaching.
