+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xIt just shows the value of management getting contracts right. Who pays for water? Geez who would have thought to get it in writing. Roar should change their name to Brisbane Bums .After 15 plus years still homeless. Mark Kingsman (RIP) wrote that contract and - knowing Mark a little - I would expect he did everything right.
Logan Council appear you have an agenda whereby they’re working to get a RL club on the four Heritage Park fields, to do that they need Roar gone and they need Football Brisbane gone ... in true Logan Council style they seem to have found a way of getting rid of both as FB are leaving and Roar look to be following.
The contract is in dispute but Roar expect to win the case, so maybe keep your powder dry until a judge hands down her/his decision hey?
And far from being homeless Roar have an $18m Academy being built for their exclusive use on the Northside and - apparently - an offer of something similar on the Gold Coast.
Oh, and they have early stage plans to refurbish a brownfield site into a $60m//16,000 capacity stadium.
It’s not all bad. I wonder where that site is, I can't think of sites that I would consider "Brownfields" in a central location. Unless we do a swap with Souths Logan Rugby League, they take Heritage Park and we get Davis Park Hopefully when we do leave Logan it will be with a tidy payout from Logan city Council for carrying on like a bunch of pork chops. There would be a good chance of a new centre up at South Pine, the new council is definitely looking for opportunities like this and there is a fair bit of un(under)utilised council owned land around there that they would be looking at, only problem will be the gap between now and when that could be ready. From memory the (stadium) brownfield sites that have been mentioned could be: 1/ Sleeman Sports Center (the outdoor velodrome already has a decent stand that could be used).
2/ Perry Park
3/ QEII - either the main stadium or the Hickey “Stadium” to the side
4/ Albion Park - presumably the raceway there.
It’s significant that FQ backed this in their infrastructure plan, just as significant is their CEO sits in Roars Advisory Board Yeah, the FQ plan mentioned these sites (except for QEII), although the price tag they were talking about went up to $100-130m (the cost of going through the public sector?). Of those sites: Sleeman and QEII are out of the way and have zero high-capacity public transport. Perry Park is in an unbeatable location but you would have to accommodate the Strikers (and deal with the YMCA). Albion Park would be good but what is happening to the raceway? Can't see a stadium fitting in if that's not going anywhere. The best site I've heard about would be Boondall. It's way up north but right next to a train station, and has huge amounts of parking already in place. And presumably people already have familiarity getting there with the Entertainment Centre. There's lots of empty space just crying out for something, and a 15,000 seater stadium could fit in the lot between the station and Melaleuca Drive (with more parking put in north of there). Are there any reasons why this couldn't be a goer? Would the state government put roadblocks in place because it would be "competing" with their stadiums? If a Boondall stadium did take place I could see Roar becoming a north-focused side, with a second division including Strikers (for the centre) and either Lions or an Ipswich bid for the south-west. It would carve up the city quite well into distinct sporting territories. Boondall has all of the same problems that QEII does, would be pretty much a white elephant in my view, too hard to get to and from particularly from the Southside and has no other things around. I wonder if there is any sites down around Northgate that would fit the bill? Still on the major train lines (and it is a station that all trains stop at) with plenty of other things around for pre and post game, and would work if there was a general North side pivot with the academy and training grounds at South Pine. That would have to be part of any consideration by the club when looking at this, go to far North or South in search of cheaper land for the stadium and they become a North or South Brisbane club, stay in a central location and pay through the nose That’s pure nonsense. It’s only in Australia that we define clubs this way - Brisbane represents the city irrespective of where they base themselves. There’s numerous examples around the world eg Man Utd don’t represent one part of Manchester over another just because they play/train closer to Sale and Stockport. We have to stop thinking this way!
In terms of land. Property developers get first pick on most land hence the brownfield site plan is quite smart but it does restrict options. The intriguing one is Albion Park as I thought the raceway was settled there? Who represents the City of London Waz? Or would you say people tend to support clubs representing different geographical parts of the city? Wouldn’t there be a tendency for people who live and are local there to support West Ham?

Also applying Australian football logic - if you don’t live in, near or we’re born in Woolwich you’ve no right supporting Arsenal. Nope. You are trying to make the argument about ‘the right to support a team’ when it is simply about the logic that people are more likely to support a ‘local‘ team.
Cue comments such as “But I know a Real Madrid supporter who lives in Munich.”

That was my point. You're right there's not much to do round there, but you could possibly activate the area with a larger development process. Northgate would be great. There's a fair chunk of industrial land around there, but you've got to be able to find a contiguous parcel that's at least around 200m x 150m in size, which is not easy if you have to deal with multiple owners and so on.

Train stations are over-rated. Milton works well because it’s on numerous main lines and after (most) games there are 8-10 trains within the first hour all taking fans in multiple directions. That’s not a normal situation plus it’s supplemented by a massive bus operation operating out of a dedicated bus terminus.
Take CBus Stadium - after a game there’s typically only two trains back to Brisbane in the first hour capable of moving just over a thousand fans maybe ....
the reason Dolphin is so popular despite being 50km north of where they normally pay is it’s easy to drive, easy to park, and free to park so Roar will get 10,000 to a weekend game and everyone gets home really easily.
I know cars are “non-PC” but any stadium needs to focus on cars and car parking that can move a 10k crowd, not trains that can’t.

Cue comments such as “But I know a Real Madrid supporter who lives in Munich.”
The argument I sm making is that there is no rule book on who people should or shouldn’t support. Passion for a club flows from many different things, not just their proximity to your homes postcode.
By your logic, I live in Brisbane so should support my local club Brisbane Roar but if I moved to my wife’s home town Adelaide I should start supporting the Reds ... absolute nonsense!!
And we don’t need to talk about Madrid and Munich.
I know the bloke who used to organise the bus from Kingaroy to Roar games. On Saturday arvo games there’s a mini-bus of Bundaberg based Roar fans behind me in the Den, there’s people coming in from Toowoomba and the Gold Coast .... you’re saying they shouldn’t support Roar because they’re not local.
And if someone lives in Taringa you’re saying they’re not allowed to support Roar but should instead support Taringa Rovers. You can’t make this sh*t up, but people do
I would steal ScoMo’s words and say “Stop it! It’s Un-Australian ..” but it’s NOT .... Australian sporting culture is built on such things but FOOTBALL culture isn’t
Let’s finish in Sheffield, not Madrid or Munich. Can you imagine how your argument would play out on a Sheffield football forum if you tried telling United and Wednesday supporters they were supporting the wrong club based on where they lived; or that neither team represents the city of Sheffield only a part of it - north or south Sheffield. You’d be laughed at ... and worse if you tried it in a pub post-game 😂
just stop it ffs, you’re sounding like a Karen.

You are confused Waz City of London is a small city in the centre of London/Greater London https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_LondonCity of Adelaide is a small city in the centre of Adelaide/Greater Adelaide https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_AdelaideCity of Brisbane on the other hand is a very large city in Brisbane/Greater Brisbane. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_BrisbaneCity of Adelaide has ca 22 000 population, city of Brisbane has 1,3 million. You shouldn’t use “the city of” to describe a greater city area. City of Brisbane is unique in Australia and the largest by a massive amount. Taringa is actually in the City of Brisbane.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xIt just shows the value of management getting contracts right.
Or would you say people tend to support clubs representing different geographical parts of the city? just stop it ffs, you’re sounding like a Karen. By your logic Waz; If someone suggests that people are more likely to eat at a restaurant within 10km of home, your response would be to accuse them of suggesting that people not be allowed to eat at any other restaurant. Let’s make it really easy for you Waz. Do you think there are more Brisbane supporters in Brisbane or in Melbourne? By your logic, people apparently randomly choose who they support. So, given that geography plays no part, you’d expect more Brisbane supporters to live in Melbourne which has twice the population?

My shame with AAH is that we never really got to see what he can do. Just the odd glimpse of good things. I am sorry to see him go.

+xMy shame with AAH is that we never really got to see what he can do. Just the odd glimpse of good things. I am sorry to see him go. Was an interesting one for sure, but I didn't see him breaking into the squad and getting regular game time if he hadn't done so by now. More important now is we have (I think) 2 visa slots available. I wonder if we'll be using them?

Holloway had everything needed to be successful, especially in the A-League which could have been a springboard to success back in the UK for him.
The two things he lacked seemed to be motivation and fitness - and if a player doesn’t want to do it, then you’re flogging a dead horse.
Holloway was the biggest disappointment of last season. He showed promise in preseason and we all thought “when he gets fit...” but he never did, unlike the rest of the squad.
This is a good outcome - they’ll need those two visa slots with all the Aussies heading for India lol

Agree, we have Aldred, O'Shea and Gillespee (spelling?). Aldred could make a club legend of himself over the next 4 or 5 years if he chooses to stay, simlar to Mat Smith, having the arm band in his first year at the club.

That would have to be part of any consideration by the club when looking at this, go to far North or South in search of cheaper land for the stadium and they become a North or South Brisbane club, stay in a central location and pay through the nose Well, it would be better than QEII because it would be right next to a train station.
Well Boondall is also off a north-south road and already has plenty of parking in place. So it caters to both sets of fans. You need to have PT connections otherwise you cut out a whole segment of the population who doesn't have their own car (or would rather get PT so they can drink or whatever). And 50-seater buses don't cut it - you need the large capacity of a train. This is what makes Boondall perfect, it has both modes already there.

A good pickup and and an indication of the coach looking at more pace up front. If he can make the team a counterattacking threat, then we can certainly start winning games more often.

+xMy shame with AAH is that we never really got to see what he can do Yeah, you did. You saw exactly the player he was. No goal scoring history and signed him as a striker. Fans from his last club were online in the club forum celebrating that he was gone (Hint: thats not a good sign). Then he plays exactly as his record indicated he would and roaer fans are like "yeah, can't believe he was a dud". Champness is a good pickup. Bonus they can play his music at the end of games to clear out the stadium After screwing the players, you have to love alegue clubs (jets in this case) complaining when players walk out.

I watched him in pre-season being played as a midfielder bringing the ball through the middle, holding the ball under pressure, brining it through heavy traffic, and offloading to someone up front to score. He was very impressive and very effective - winning most 50/50 challenges and delivering some fine passes into dangerous positions. Then the season started and he was put in a forwards role as a high ball target and sometimes a low ball target expecting him to suddenly be the goal scorer. I never understood the difference in his role selection and I know we did not see what he can do based on seeing what he did do regularly against lower level players. Untested against Aleague quality players in that role he played so well in pre-season. So Roar fans who give players the opportunity of a new start and a chance to play above their history, who saw the quality in his pre-season form and ability, may have been justified in wondering what went wrong once the season started. Your mockery of Roar fans lacks a bit of quality in this case I am afraid.

But I also agree with the prior posters comments - we DID get to see the player he was; he has potential but seems in capable of reaching it.

He would be a good pick-up. If he can focus on football and kick on from where he was before he left, it should be a good signing/singing.

+x+x+x+xMy shame with AAH is that we never really got to see what he can do Yeah, you did. All of the above. He looked an exciting prospect in preseason.
But I also agree with the prior posters comments - we DID get to see the player he was; he has potential but seems in capable of reaching it. I am not a coach so I call what I see in front of me rather than having experience to draw on. My main point with AAH was that he played so well in midfield pre-season, then never got to play in that position again. True forwards/strikers are not common (as we have found so often) but that was where he was played. Do you think we did see his best when he was played there instead of more as a deeper midfield role? Regardless of what position he was signed for I felt he was played out of position in respect to his skillset. I always felt he was a piece with potential that did not fit our structure with our midfield not having room for a central midfielder. Like Robbie dropped him from there due to the need to reinforce the backline.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Rapper Champness’ Roar deal hits sour note with JetsConfusion surrounds the future of footballer turned rapper Joey Champness, after the former Newcastle Jets winger agreed terms with Brisbane Roar to make an A-League return. The ex-Olyroo was released by the Jets 14 months ago to pursue an alternative career as a hip-hop artist in Los Angeles under his musical moniker of JOWIC. Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna announced at the time that should Champness, now 23, return to the game within three years he’d do so in the Hunter where he was contracted until 2022. However, the former Roar junior has been back in his home town of Brisbane since May due to COVID-19 travel restrictions between Australia and the US, and last week signed a one-year deal for Warren Moon’s side. It’s understood the Jets are questioning the validity of that contract, and Professional Footballers Australia have been enlisted to mediate the matter between the parties. Sources close to Champness claim the terms of his exit from the Hunter stipulated that if he was to return to Australia before May 30, which he did, the club would re-sign him on existing terms. Beyond that date the Jets would have first right of refusal. However, it’s claimed Champness informed McKinna a month ago of his desire to join Brisbane, and in the light of those talks the player believed the Jets would not stand in his way. Auckland-born Champness released his first music video in May which has received airplay in both Australia and the United States. But now he’s ready to put hip-hop on hold and hit the play button on football again, with Brisbane his clear preference thanks to a previous relationship with Moon, the ex-Roar academy chief turned head coach. Champness struck eight goals in 36 appearances for the Jets before his career switch. Both Brisbane and the Jets declined to comment when contacted by The World Game. Sources close to the matter expect there to be a number of similar cases involving players looking to change clubs amid ongoing uncertainty over a new collective bargaining agreement and a lack of clarity over contractural obligations. https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/rapper-champness-roar-deal-hits-sour-note-with-jets

Don't feel sorry for the Jets if he gave them the chance to put an offer forward. It's uncertain times for a young player, and he can't just sit around forever while they work their finances out. It's unrealistic to expect that. Whatever comes out, there is no way after all this media back and forth that he'll end up back at Jets, so they just just kicking up a stink for no outcome.

Good showing yesterday from the Roar NPL boys. Grossy did a great job to set them up to frustrate table leaders Olympic. Hopefully the gurus at Roar keep Grossman and Goodship around for a bit longer.
