Maybe I was wrong about the counting stopping for the night in Georgia, the big counties in Atlanta are up to like 80% now.

It loses a lot of nuance over zoom I reckon, but it's better than nothing I guess. I've only had a few lessons so far.

Yeah definitely miss the face to face lesson to see all body language and hear sounds.

I'm no expert on this but Biden does seem to be closing the gap quite a lot in Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

I think Pennsylvania is a bridge too far for Biden now.

If the rest of the votes from the bigger cities keep going the way they are and the mail votes are more Democrat-leaning as they say I can see Biden Bradburying it in Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and maybe even North Carolina as they are all very close. One or two of those would be enough to win it.

Not my country but you'd think that electoral college votes would be split proportionally in a state based on voting percentages.

Say California votes 2:1 Democrat then 2/3rds if that 55 go to them, the remainder to the Republicans.

Seems more fair and representative.  Basically a Republican in California will never have his vote counted federally.  And vice versa in say Alabama.

Fulton and De Kalb counties in metro Atlanta which are both currently 80% counted could win the state for Biden on their own, assuming the current proportion of votes from the first 80% apply to the last 20%.

It's closing no doubt. I wonder if the remaining votes could be 75% for Biden really racing to close that gap. Doubtful but we'll know soon.

CGP Grey has some really good youtube videos on the Electoral College.

And also on how it could be gotten rid of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUX-frlNBJY&ab_channel=CGPGrey

Just you watch the Republicans try to get rid of the EC once Texas starts looking more blue.

Yeah. It's so bizarre seeing Americans screeching "eVerY VotE cOunTs" when most Americans' votes are literally symbolic. They mean nothing on the West Coast, most of the South and that area with lots of corn and the Dakotas. Their system is explicitly designed to disincentivise voting.

Interesting and on the surface seems fairer. Parties don't bother in certain states because they know they'll never get there. The idea of a big overhaul in the states you mentioned simply isn't on the card for a very long time.

I guess its a bit like living in a safe seat in Australian elections.

I've lived in Cronulla most of my adult life so realistically my House of Reps vote has only counted in a handful of elections when I lived elsewhere.

Biden pulling ahead in Wisconsin. This is it.

Pretty cool moment when the CNN analyst guy realised it happened live while he had the stats up, that'll probably make the highlights reel.
