Matt Simon king hit someone, no punishment.

Vedran shoved Matt McKay to the ground, no punishment.

La Rocca is involved in a tussle that Matt Simon started, 3 game ban.

Fuck off.

I agree other clubs from certain states get away with more shit than us, but I think the suspension is fair.

I don't think you can have it both ways...
Going by the book is only "fair" if it applies to all, surely?

I guess it comes down to the definition of fair.

Maybe it's just coz I have always hated that the retaliatior gets punished more in soccer(sport) more than the aggressor. That to me has never seemed 'fair" either

And a three match ban is very harsh for an incident only reviewed in retrospective after the referee did nothing at the time. These "reviews" only serve to undermine the ref's authority.

Not to mention its complete arbitrary what they review and what they don't

I imagine Sydney FC must have lodged a complaint for it to have gone this far because we are too close to them on the ladder. Brisbane have more class in not lodging a complaint against the Sydney GK so nothing got done.

It's not always easy to dismiss perceived bias as just incompetence

Certainly the fact that others don't get punished isn't fair but I think 3 weeks is appropriate for that sort of conduct.

I don't see the issue with retrospectively handing out bans, I want to see the right decision made. In fact it annoys me that the MRP can't do anything when a referee "deals with it" inappropriately at the time.

I agree with this and it has always frustrated me
I just don't see what their process is for deciding what is worthy of further review and what is not

If it is not based on official complaints from clubs then what is it based on? Media? I didn't see the fox sports discssuion about this incident vs the necevski one, as one example, so I wouldn't know.

Are there personal judgments involved? Is it for the sake of the "look" of our league that shoving and wrestling being punished would make us a girls sport in the public's eyes?

I literally have no idea and there is seemingly no logic or discernible pattern as to who is cited and when

You would hope that they review all footage post game like they do with the AFL but who knows. I agree that it's not a particularly transparent process.

He didn't get suspended for shoving and wrestling though? I thought he got suspended for the elbow?

Yeah, sorry, I worded that poorly

I meant did Necevski not get sanctioned because it was just "handbags"?

FoxSports website labelled the video footage a "brain snap". If anyone had seen that on the field he surely would have been sent off. Khalfalla got sent off for a love tap to the ankle (in the same round I believe).

Last week WSW player gets two weeks when Berisha caused the entire mellee plain as day. Didn't even get a yellow!

PS I realise I'm being one eyed and I don't entirely disagree that an elbow flung in anger is worth 3 weeks (maybe 2 for this one) but it's just the frustration of the inconsistency that bugs me. Not like it's anything new I guess

Maybe I'm just angry coz I see this as a HUGE HUGE blow to any hopes we had of finishing higher than 6th this season

Elsey needs a rest and McGowan needs a leader and in the few weeks LaRocca finally started playing he slotted in seamlessly and we looked impenetrable

Ugh

Would have been rough if Necevski got suspended when he was sitting on the bench.

do you mean Janjetovic?

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm tried to stay out of the ACL thread as I disagree with a bit of the analysis but I'm probably biased

3 weeks when we have Victory the week after is a big loss. I'm not happy with the situation but I'm more annoyed at La Rocca than the FFA.

If I'm annoyed with him about anything it's that if he was going to cop 3 games, he should have hit him harder.

I'm convinced they only do these retrospective reviews because of clamour in the media, and on the internet.

The thing that annoys players most is inconsistency by the ref.

As a supporter of United I've come to accept, albeit reluctantly, that Sydney and Melbourne will always get more favourable decision than Perth, Us and Roar, I think even "Nix are looked on more kindly.
For LaRoccxa to receive a sanction is fine by me, but the severity of it while elbows, hands & legs man Simon and Janjevotic to get off scott free is plainly inconsistent. Also how many weeks did Muscat get when he clearly stamped on Daniel Mullen?

Every time I see footage of that I still shake my head in disbelief it went unpunished

Mclaren stomped on Isaias last year (the photo of his face at the time was so full of malice it was amazing) and not a thing happened. Was that game reviewed?

Maybe the MRP budget only stretches to looking at fox sports highlights packages every few weeks

No sanction!!!!!!!!

I realise there's not a lot of love outside Adelaide for Isaias but surely that applies to Simon too!!

Brisbane fans are notoriously fickle, it probably frustrates them that we aren't too fussed often and that's why they are often trying to bait us.
