+xDid anyone of you listen in on the T Baz interview on 1269am Talkin Sport just then? Here’s some of major points he spoke about:- * Big focus will be on defence & fitness * With the right coaching, players like Ogden, Renouf he named are just 2 that will go to another level as he mentioned are untapped * He watched a lot of our games * He doesn’t want to chop & change the side like what’s been happening with the team for the past few years * Can see Wakeham as a No.9 * He loves Averillo & can see him in the spine at No.1 * Wants the club to be aiming for the 8 without excuse * Big push on his coaching team really developing the players * Hopes to find a gem or two in pre season from our squad * He made it clear he wants Burton, up to Burton to accept offer & of Penrith release him * He made it clear that the team needs more speed to finish off opportunities He spoke really well, no stupid nose farts, no umm’s & you know.... Good Luck T Baz Nice update thx mate... TomBaz is definitely saying all the right things...

Top 30 on the dogs site.
I'm also wondering about Wakeham at hooker and Averllo at fullback.
Good to see Baz trying to find the best position for each player.

Gee Villis post about TBaz interview had me beaming when I read it. I like the sound of trying Wakeham at hooker. He looks like an off the cuff the player and might work out in that role. Jmk obviously the more defensive type hooker. That allows Lewis to stay in the halves with Flanagan unless Burton comes on board. Averillo at fullback would be interesting and certainly worth a shot. I really want JAC for RSmith.

Hooper is saying the Storm have upped JAC pay for 2021 from $350k to $480k.
The Dogs would be stupid to release Reimis Smith to the Storm unless we get something back in return even if it doesn’t involve JAC.

With good coaching, Smith has the potential to be a very good player. IMO in the last 10 years our coaches have ruined more players than we have improved. We even turned DWZ into a dud. Look at how guys like Cook, Taupau and Finucane have gone at new clubs.

Look at how guys like Cook, Taupau and Finucane have gone at new clubs. I don’t think the coaching made any of those guys as good as they are. Finucane was always one of the better middles in the game, just got better with age. I don’t think he would have been any different if he stayed with us under any coach. The guy is just a machine. Tapau hasn’t changed much at all, certainly shouldn’t have let him go as he was always going to be a very good middle but we had Klem, Graham, Pritchard and Kas in front of him. Cook is a tough one. He was good at Saint George and with us but didn’t set the world on fire until he had that huge South’s pack and just got better as the rules changed. The constant attempt to speed up the ruck has benefited him more than any coach.
As much fun as it is to blame Des on the current problems at the club I am still yet to see us in a better position, than when he was here. I really hope Barrett can do a great job and we can return to producing great juniors. But I’m far from convinced yet.
Coaches can help players but they still need good players. It’s been a while since we had good players

Agreed on some of the players, some in our squad were well below NRL standard, a lot of that is recruitment and retention cap management, scouting and junior development all in the Des / Dib era. I also think that strange team selection and playing players out of position mess with the confidence of our players. The squad has looked poorly drilled in fitness, attack and defence. Players like Smith and Jacko are examples, they where not the players they should have been on 2020 for various reasons. Good coaching helps the confidence, team spirit and energy levels. I think we will see Baz make a difference.

I tend to think if everything is in place a good team can do better with a great coach. The opposite could be said about our club over the last few years. But we can’t expect miracles.

I just noticed you BBO is not listed in the top 30 or as a development player, instead you PK is a development half with a touch footy background.
Shame, I recon BBO was a natural backyard footy player, he had a few strings to his bow. Of course that type of player tries the low percentage spectular play, that is becuase they sometimes nail it.
Trailing by 12 points with 10 minutes to play an unpredictable player can change the game. I expect the club is right, but I just like that kind of player.

After seeing JAC last night I feel we are stupid to not offer him the 500k he wants. In my opinion an elite winger like that can justify the price tag especially in a team that doesnt have any big $ players. He scores tries a wins you plays that others simply cant. He can add a new dimension to our team in what is otherwise a very limited attack. If we had big money players chewing up our cap I can understand why you wouldnt pay so much for a winger but I feel we can afford him and he would help transform our team

Storm will bump up his contract for 2021 to close to $500k. I have to be critical of our club here and say they are making a mistake not luring him over. It is clear we cannot score length of field tries and this guy will hands down provide it. Back to the 80s we go

Then the club needs to recruit more players with speed. For JAC we need to outbid all other clubs. Yes it is worth bidding, the only way to be guaranteed of winning is paying well over. Next time we can offer him long term and no player swap. So maybe we can bid a bit more, have a TPA or offer a better package. JAC looks to me like a guy the club should hire to count the cash in the pokies.
