I'm actually impressed at the SA government and how quickly they've got onto this. Given it's a liberal government I had expected them to um and uh until it would probably be too late.

+x+x+xWell... it's going to be interesting to see how this pans out. At least being a Liberal state you won't have the Murdoch rags undermining your state's efforts. Going early and going hard is the right move IMO. Good luck. Yes and it seems like Frydenberg and Hunt are on board too. How miraculous... Also the opposition are being supportive. Should be fine, not looking forward to having the kids home with school while I'm working but I'll survive. Good luck. It’s ok to give them the TV for half the day...

Speaks volumes that I mentioned Murdoch's undermining of Victoria's recovery but didn't even think of Scomo and Frydenburg's undermining as to where the true power in this country lies. Also a good point about the state opposition working for the greater good. Chalk and cheese compared to Tim Smith.

It is but they're throwing him under the bus but are still opening up They were worried this kid (yes a kid which makes this throwing under the bus worse) got it just by walking in and buying a pizza. That's not normally how it works so they were worried that 100s of untraceable people might have got it the same way. Now that found out it wasn't they're still concerned but less so.

Just read that the s.a government and the police are wanting to deport the first person whom is a 39 year old Spanish person out of the country. His visa is nearly over but they want to make an example out of him and deport him. I have no words

The UK appointing a minister in charge of vaccination and will begin the rollout within days: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/nov/28/nadhim-zahawi-appointed-minister-in-charge-of-covid-19-vaccine-rolloutStill months until ours starts even for health workers, the government really shouldn't have taken so long to commit to a vaccine, and I still have no idea why mass production was started months ago ahead of being cleared for use.

All the leading vaccines are being mass produced now. This shortens the release time since once they are cleared from testing, they can be used and there is no production lead time. If the vaccines are duds, then they can be destroyed.

I'm not sure if we have any other major pharma in Oz having the manufacturing ability locally. I think it took a while for the Government, CSL and AZ to get a deal in place. We're in a much better position anyway. Take South Korea for example, they have said they're not going to rush to buy a vaccine since their numbers are being managed and can wait and see. We're doing a bit better than SK, so we have time.

Happened in Sydney with one of the hotel security guards a few months back as well (NSW Health did say he was not contagious at the time but still a breach and he got fined). Seems like its much worse in SA since this individual was contagious. Not sure what compels a person to go shopping while under quarantine.

All it took was one hotel night manager just doing his job catching the virus for our second wave to happen in Victoria so it's a fucking miracle that it has never happened in all the other states and territories with all these shenanigans going on. Hopefully, as a nation, our luck holds.

International flights are arriving at Tullamarine from next week and we are assured that vicpol and the defence force are controling the quarantine system.....

The UK's high level of obesity has fuelled a much-increased death rate from Covid-19, says the former Chief Medical Officer for England. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55134496

All it took was one hotel night manager just doing his job catching the virus for our second wave to happen in Victoria so it's a fucking miracle that it has never happened in all the other states and territories with all these shenanigans going on. Hopefully, as a nation, our luck holds. Luck has nothing to do with it Take Adelaide for instance. A virus spreading almost exclusively asymptomatic in the exact same circumstances as Victoria and by the time they caught it the virus had already passed 4 - 5 generations. Yet only 25-30 cases most of which were infected before people even knew it was out there and before lockdown was even announced Why? Because the Australian system works. Social distancing, hygiene, awareness, right across the board. Every supermarket. Every work place. Also isolation and quarantine protocols, as well as good contact tracing methods. Its a time tested system (several months) that has worked for every state that has followed the federal model. It automatically eradicates over 90% of potential transmission leaving a small number of cases to be managed as part of a suppression approach. Even if caught a week or two later there is plenty of time to stop it becoming a problem This is something we have seen time and time and time again from regions with large populations and resources like NSW to small regions like Tasmania who people often ridicule for being backwards. The Australian system is outstanding and it works. Not luck, but a great system and one that allows us to be relatively open, host grand finals in front of 30k people, and for people to go about their lives as the world is falling around us Dont confuse what Victoria are doing as the rule instead of the exception. Victoria have implemented an aggressive preemptive elimination strategy where even after 31 days without a case we have 25% of people at work and are mandated by force to wear a mask indoors and carry one with us at all times Mark my words: Australia, outside of Victoria, will never throughout the course of this pandemic be hit by a "wave" larger than a few dozen a day depending on when it was caught because the federal framework works. People just have to learn not to panic when they see a single case. Spot fires are inevitable and there is plenty you can do to keep yourself safe Note: I am not a multi. I lost access to my email address for my old account and couldnt do a password reset

A lot of Americans circa 2020 wouldn't have made it three weeks past Pearl Harbor before protesting rationing and demanding our surrender to the Axis powers, and they deserve neither our sympathy nor the extraordinary heroism of doctors, nurses, and staff in hospitals and care homes across the country.

Yup. Like it's an angry opinion piece of sorts, but it's pretty hard to deny that it's not bang on in most regards. -PB

What a great article. Mirrors my sentiment towards those in Australia with this attitude. Honestly I have never been a violent person but there is something about the COVID down-players, deniers and anti-vaxxers that makes me want to go all out. Evil, selfish wilfully ignorant scum.
