+xTonight's game showed some exceptional football by the Roar going forward. Up until when Champness went off we looked like we had what we were missing - speed, creativity and an absolute threat around the box. Players were lifting above the level they played at last year, with DWH putting a quality ball into the box and someone scoring off it just as one example. Unfortunately, once Champness went off (and perhaps some other changes too) our attack seemed to fall back to our old struggle. A game of two halves for sure. All in all, with a largely youthful team, we were fluid and dangerous - and quite exciting to watch. If we can keep that level up in the aleague (no guarantee) I would go so far as to say that Paulc might even find it worth watching (I am not being facetious - it really was nice quality football). The own goal was an absolute howler and quite funny in an 'oh my god, how could you do that' fashion. That aside, Gillesphey made some brilliant tackles throughout the game and has retained his emerging quality. Brindell-South seemed to have a very positive contribution for whoever wondered about him. He was fast and quite skillful and worked hard in both directions. Corey Brown had a bloody good game - both up and back. He looked lean and fit to me and we might be glad to have him at leftback this season. A few of our young players (including DWH) got hammered as the game wore on and some frustration came in from the NPL side. A couple of the NPL players did seem quite determined to get carded or sent off with some nasty challenges. Lucky there were no injuries really. The game was not all one way though, so it was a good game to be getting the newer players into a hard hit out. The deserved NPL goal was a little bit of sustained pressure in the box and a touch and shot worthy of a goal in the circumstances. Add Aldred back in and the centre should toughen up a bit more. We were nowhere near as vulnerable to the fast break as we were last pre-season that is for sure. Macca had opportunities to pass off and to receive decent passes - really satisfying to see good linking play that results in goals. I found our young team to be better than our pre-season team last season (which I rated promising) - both attacking and in defence. I think we are a better team this season than we were last season and Champness really brought flair, skill and goals to our game. A good summary.
Lots of talk about “what formation Moon will play?”. It looks like he’s going to be far more fluid than a set formation with players expected to adopt roles based on where they are on the pitch and what’s happening in front of them - that kind of “fluidity” can be hard for some players to comprehend and it will be interesting if that carries on vs AL opponents.
But I really liked what I saw last night. Very positive going forward and yes, Champnese was brilliant but a shout out to Scott MCD to who played really well.

Jets game should be a better indicator of how effective they will be against a bit better organised squad, some good moments though. When it was announced games were to be played at Redcliffe, I was quietly disappointed, considering my very southside location. However it's really only about 10 mins difference, next time we'll get there a bit earlier and grab a coffee near the water. Hopefully crowds pick up for season proper.

I like the fact we’re using more Aussies providing more excitement and flair. If what you say is correct that this preseason’s team looks better than last seasons then it could become a good year. Interested to see us against A-League opposition first.

you are right, unfortunately, our club never helps to buy tickets and if you buy through the website tikteck or whatever then be sure you get the worst seats

A-League is fast and very tough, not like Queensland or 2-3 Division in the USA

Masato Kudo is our new striker. Despite not scoring many goals over the last few years, the guy has played in many successful teams and is an international. He has won premierships with Kashiwa Reysol in consecutive years in J2& J1 10 years ago. Finished 2nd in J1 with Hiroshima in 2018 and 6th in 2019. 30yrs old seems a good age . No mug by any stretch. Roar is starting to look very different. A lot more short nippy players and two japanese players who we know all know how to keep the ball. Macca,Kudo,DWH,Champnese,Danzaki, Ingham up front. JOS and A bunch of youngsters and journeymen in the midfield. Pretty much the same backs as last year . It's looking very interesting.

Japanese attackers generally seem to have pace. Cant see Ingham getting many runs, especially with this new signing. Becoming very hopeful.

At the moment I recon it’s Scott to 10 and O’Shea staying at 6

+xWould like another mid but happy with that signing. Agree, for our midfield to work we will really need Daley, Akbari and Kim to step up, and that is assuming O'Shea and Riku are on fire as well. Having watched the game against the NPL All Stars I'm not sure they are all on the same page yet. The Forwards and Backs are looking solid though, just need to get the ball between them.

Our Starting 11 is starting to look a lot stronger but it is still a bit hard to pick our best 11 and formation. we really are missing any attacking width so it is going to be a hard season for our left and right backs getting up and down the flank. my guess first choice/back up young hingert/JBS Aldred/(Nevile when he gets back) GIllesphie/JCP Brown/JCP/Powel Daley/Kim JOS/Akbari Smd/dwh/ingham Riku/Champness Riku/DWH Kudo/Champness

I dont think moon will play the 3-4-3 / 5 at the back system ( i think he prefers the 4-3-3) though it does make the squad look a bit more balanced young Neville/hingert aldred Gillesphie/JCP Hingert/JBS Brown/JCP/Powel Daley/Kim JOS/akbari Smac/Dwh/ingham Riku/DWH Kudo/Champness I personally really like that set up. there is pace and creativity, a strong back line and depth over the park.

So far in preseason it looks like 4-3-3 but with a fair bit of fluidity in those front 6

I think 433 of some configuration. Looking at the signings seems to give some weight to that thinking.
Moon will not know what his best 11 configuration is yet. This takes time and if he's worked that out already, he's a genius.

Hey lads, long time no talk, just thought I would pop in and see what everyone's thoughts are on the upcoming season. Anyway, I'm finally jumping back in and getting a couple memberships with the old man and uk bros this season and was just wondering if you get allocated seat numbers like at Suncorp at Dolphin stadium. Say I go with platinum, will we get seat numbers or is it just sit where you want in that section? I went through a trial membership run to test it, picked platinum, no of adult tickets etc but no seat numbers come up at the end. Sorry if this sounds stupid, just haven't been to redcliffe in a long time, heard of upgrades etc, been stuck in Adelaide for a long time and heading back hopefully mid January.
