Aus media want to use facebook to promote their business/sell ads/get customer reach with clicks to their site - then they want facebook to pay when they post links to their site? It's not like facebook is stealing their content and re-using as their own.

Also, since when was it a liberal policy to get involved in the free market at the behest of corporations?

I hope facebook can reinstate the pages that have unfairly been pulled, but this is on Murdoch and the liberals.

Conveniently overlooking that Labour fully supported the governments move in parliament.  No external source should bully Australia or dictate what laws it passes.

Labor are in opposition. Liberals are negotiating.
I’d say the same thing if they were this poor.

They need Labor to pass the legislation. Labor could easily pull up stumps and refuse but it has not. Correctly, it fully supports it instead.

If the byproduct of this is Australians go to news sites to get news then that's good.

Putting billions into the pockets of cunce that don't pay tax here is a good thing.

Ok. The liberals poor negotiable skills at the behest of Rupert Murdoch is the fault of the opposition party.

You know, recognising the poor behaviour by everyone is acceptable. Not everything has to turn into a unhinged left v right issue.

Labor has zero credibility when negotiating national issues with overseas interests unless there is an ideological  comparison. Interesting, Facebook has banned the state Liberals but not Labor in the middle of WA elections. I’m sure Anthony (Elma Fudd) Albanese won’t see what’s wrong with this.

Not only that I heard that they've taken BOM off facebook as well as the pages.  Well then people will go directly to those websites and their traffic will go up and eyeballs on their pages, with their ads, will help fund their activities.

When a privately owned company like facebook, responsible to no one but their shareholders, has more money and influence than dozens of countries around the world that is not a good thing.

Mate you are being idiotic.  As usual.  The libs are in power.  Stop blaming labour 'leftards' for something the libs have negotiated.  Yes Labour went along with it but the Libs are in the driving seat doing the negotiating.  Labour is in the back seat.

The government can’t get anything through to make it law unless it has the support of the opposition. So a bipartisanship approach is required and to achieve this there has to be consultation particularly on issues of national importance.  Supporting the government’s actions is the end result of that process. Suggesting Labor has no input or implying they are simply standing idle in the background twiddling their thumbs, is what is idiotic.

Massive own goal by Murdoch and his government, and I couldn't have less sympathy. Facebook proved that MSM needs them much more than the other way around. If today is the day that Australians stop getting their news on Facebook then today is a good day. My only worry is that nutjob sites like infowars and Avi Yemeni and shit still get to cut through, but hopefully it'll be a change across the board. I do feel sorry for niche and independent sources like FTBL or say Michael West Media got caught up in this too though as they didn't ask for any of this, but it's clearly all Scomo and Rupert's fault, so perhaps they'll come to a compromise.

I have absolutely no issue with what Facebook has done. If I had a website and you want me to pay you for someone else putting your content on there? Get fucked see you later.

I was listening to the Shim Spider and so much Moore podcast this week and Simon Hill was trying to say you should need ID and a photo to use social media. Simon Hill, mate, no one will use it. You wont have any honest discourse and the conversation will move to the dark web.

The tragedy of all of this is The Beetoota, The Shovel, The Chaser and other satirical sites got pulled as well.  (I mean in some ways they should be pleased to be classified as 'news'.)

But as I said earlier it takes about 2 seconds to type their name in the search bar and bookmark them.  More eyes on their pages, more ad revenue to them.

Love how the Lefties like this Globalization thing where foreign external sources that match their ideology sits well. They have the hide to point the finger when the government and opposition collaboratively put the national interests first. Yes the government led the way and has been assessing the problem for a long time, but the hypocrisy is beyond belief.

He's so tiresome.  It's like he believes no one can have a nuanced opinion on anything.  I'd hate to get stuck talking to him at a BBQ.  You'd just get harangued until you could make your excuses and leave.

Also, it just goes to show nobody reads more than headlines. Essentially, to read the full article that's posted on facebook you need to click and it then are sent to the publisher's site.
