Hope we can turn around the results. Looks like some changes for this game.
We are fortunate that many teams around us a slipping up which keeps us very much in touch.

Not looking good for us. Struggling to move the ball forward, terrible delivery into the box, constant fouls.

Deserved lead for Phoenix. Knew Roar were going to be poor without Danzaki. O'Shea (how many counter attacks did he create for Phoenix by taking too many touches? ) Aldred having absolute shockers.
Probably the poorest match of the season from the Roar.
Is scotty coming back soon?

I counted Six aerial crosses into the box to one that actually hit the ground for Roar. Noone capable of taking on the defence and creating a serious chance unfortunately. Virtually every cross from the wing against a stacked defence. WP dangerous on every raid. Roar attacking down the wings but not able to get into the box.WP on the other hand are raiding through the center and on the wings. I dont know how any Roar striker is expected to score unless he is tall.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xThe question is will Waz now concede Roar will not win the title? Never said they would. Always said “top 4 but won’t win the Plate” and will stick by that. #InMoonWeTrust
will YOU now concede you’re not a Roar supporter??? I think Moon is doing a good job but this is not a top 4 team. Scraping into the finals will be a good result with the players Moon has. It can’t be a top 4 team if they can’t score right. Put a finisher in to the Perth, Jets, WU and the MacArthur game and there’s an extra 11 points .... that’s top 4 form Well done captain obvious. You've figured out the objective in football. Salty.
Maybe you could write an article on it sometime ...? You make me laugh. You might want to look up "narcissist" in the dictionary. Be good for you to learn about yourself. Just to be clear. I don't dislike anyone nor have anything against anyone on this forum. You're the one who came after me and attacked me for absolute no reason. If you want to keep doing so, by all means, go ahead. I'm quite happy to give back the shit you dish. Waz needs to appreciate there are other points of view. If you don’t comply to his views then you’re just not a Roar supporter. There are always two points of view - mine and the wrong one. lol. You know in my opinion those two are often the same thing 😂 Glad you're self aware. Ha Ha ... and just a few posts ago you said you weren’t “attacking anyone” and here you are replying to a post you didn’t need to; you can’t let it go can you - you have to try a bitch slap but you can’t even do that well 😂 I was definitely not attacking. It's a public forum and anyone is allowed to reply to any post they wish to. I chose to be sarcastic because you have rubbed me up the wrong way, and well, you made it easy. Look, I'm not here to make enemies. I've been on this forum much longer than you have, before you know the forums as what it is, and I like to think I get on with everyone here. You made an enemy out of me when you came after me for saying I was a journalist. Why it upset me was because of the hard work I put in to get to where I did and the sacrifices I've made. I've worked at the highest levels of football journalism and it was not easy. You came out swinging, labelling me, and in no certain terms, calling me a liar without anything to back you up. I'm quite happy to have a civil discussion on these forums about the Roar and the A-league, just don't be a jerk from the outset to people you don't know.

I really find it interesting that O'Shea is continuing to be placed in the more deeper position of the midfield. He like to run with the ball before he passes. Which is something you can do in the higher position while in the deeper role you need to be moving the ball quicker with one/two touch passing.

Well I hope that is the end of the 3 at the back. We looked much more threatening when we moved the extra player forward. When we were relying on brown and hingert to be our play makers we were always going to struggle. With the extra man up front we have an extra outlet and that takes the pressure off brown and hingert

There was a big discussion on this thread on the changing game to a back 3 and the death of a 433. But got to play to the players you have.

+xBozza is an idiot. He wasn't even close to him. Never rated Bozza. That was a clear as day handball. I feel like the handball rule changes every week. We spent a fair bit of time taking that extra touch when we shouldn't have. It can be costly when trying to move the ball quicker. Also, seems to be that a lot of our play is to go down the side and then just cross it in to the middle. Reminds me of the Moyes United days. That was bad to watch. There was one opportunity where Hingert got in behind and DWH was open, but he didn't look up and see him, so Hingert just sent it in to the middle and it was easily cleared.

+xSorry that is a handball, clear as day, would be spitting chips if it was the other way. The “offending” player was 1.5m away from the player who kicked the ball so he has little or no time to react.
That (presumably) is why neither the referee nor the AR who had a great view nor the VAR saw that as a penalty.
And it’s not like the referee is making this stuff up - it literally is written into the rules.

Had a game postponed whilst on the pitch doing warm up this arvo, freakin livid (not sure who with tho ...).
Got home to start the game about an hour behind live.
In the first half - thought Roar were really poor. With no obvious explanation other than motivation (Nix applied a high press but Roar failed to through it and counter).
In the second half - Nix adopted Roars mistakes and Roar were much better. Once they’d equalised Roar lost a bit of composure and - although I don’t think the handball was a penalty - they could easily have lost a second half they should have won.
Confidence now looks to be a real problem - that’s a black hole they need to avoid falling in to but I’m not sure they can based on that first half.

I thought our first half was due to some very bad passing and poor decision making all over the place, an especially bad and uncharacteristic series of mistakes by O'Shea, a lack of confidence going forward so we kept passing backwards and never put any real pressure on the Nix to defend, and a good (but not awesome) high press by Wellington on the occasions they applied it. We looked like we had been told that Wellington were a great attacking machine and if we didn't lock them out we were going to get done over - so we tried to protect the ball in a panicked fashion and failed to even shut up shop properly.

Either way, doesn't really change anything whether we agree or not, just another game with no win, 7 games now.

4-3-3 looked a lot better. Was it a mindset change? Let's go for it.. nothing to lose.
What formation for next match ? No Gillesphy. Play safe with Jordan courtney perk -aldred-trewin back 3 or Alfred and ? Jcb or trewin as part of back 4?
If front 3, who takes it Dwh, champness, gol gol? Vs dwh-kudo- champness ?

It looked to me an unusual formation Roar were playing in the first half, essentially a 3142, particularly with respect to which players were in certain positions. O’Shea was playing quite a deep holding midfield role, with Akbari and Daley ahead of him in attacking midfield roles. I thought all three looked quite lost and ineffective. Things were changed a little at halftime, with Akbari dropping to partner O’Shea as a second holder, but it was only when Roar went to a back 4 that they started to get some control of the game.

The only reason you got on top of the nix is that they are the least fittest team in the comp. I couldn't believe how quickly they died in the arse, and yet, they still should've got the chocolates. In your current configuration you're mid table, at best and that's only because those below you are more ordinary than you.

Nix closed us down really well. There were many times where we lost possession because of that high press, but it also could have been avoided had we not taken that extra touch or been a bit more spacially aware. Often a player got a ball with his back facing forward, and would lose out because he was not aware of the players around him or would move in to a position that was not beneficial.
As for the handball, having watched it again and based on the part of the rule that says, "hand is not near the body or is in a position away from the body", I would say it's a handball.

The main part of our team has diffused the high press many times. It is one of the features of a Roar team these days. I wonder how much changing players every game is breaking up our cohesion. Or are we losing confidence in ourselves to make a pass in tight spaces or trust in our teammates to receive them? The main thing in the Nix game was the increased speed of our play in the last third/quarter of the game. Pedestrian in attack for much of the game, it was no coincidence that the game changed when we used the ball faster going forward.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

As you say, Nix closed is down really well with that high press and agree with you - most of the time it could have been avoided (although this is where having a keeper who isn’t comfortable with the ball at his feet catches you out).
The handball - the remarkable thing is the referee, AR and VAR all agree it wasn’t an offence. So either the referees all got the rule wrong or everyone else seems to be - his get out of jail card is his proximity to the players who played the ball, there is no time to react and move his hand away

Another disappointing game. We were lucky with that interpretation of handball by the ref.
In a resort somewhere
