+x+xHaving heard the Baz press conference, it seems he has identified Flanos poor ends to our set of 6s as a key issue - which is good. The question is gonna be how he goes about fixing them. I'd say his options are: 1) to bench or drop him in favour of Lewis or Wakeham 2) persist with him and work hard on his kicking game and 5th tackle options 3) redirect the kicking duties to Averillo I like 1 and 3 but am worried that 2 could take time. Alot of time. The biggest issue is not do much the clearance kicks from inside our half.... but the end of tackle kicks inside opposition 30m which dont mount any pressure or win us any repeat sets or even give us a chance to score. The second half yesterday proved that Avo can put in some good attacking kicks. Wakeham can too. Lewis is probably the best kicker of all at this point - especially his clearance kicks. It will be over to Baz to work on this through the week as we have a must-win game against the Cows to offer some relief for the coach and club... I vote 1 or 3. Watching the press conference Baz is starting to show stress and age .. And only after 5 rounds ;)

Needs to improve his defence to play centre. Started the season well, is a talent running the ball, just needs to run harder, forget passing and kicking. Needs to get more involvef.

+xUnfortunately it seems we’ll have to probably wait till Rd11 when the likes of Schoupp, Doorey, Deitz get a go. Till then, T Baz will continue to select the useless Hoppa, Napa, Katoa & co. The challenge for us fans is to get through to Rd11 with a shred of sanity left..... .... just kidding ..... Our sanity went years ago.

+xCows looking real good today so far... Everything is so much faster about them than the Tigers! They are our best chance of a win. The performance against the Storm had some promising aspects. Katoa and Napa should definitely be dropped. Thompson and Topine to start. Add Wakeham and Britt to the bench. I am not a fan of Britt, but anyone is better than Napa.

V'landys needs to shove his Rugba Leeg up his ar$e. Bring back Rugby League. This 6 again is allowing teams to have extended periods in possession. The NSWRL got rid of that sh!t in the 60's by introducing the 4 tackle rule otherwise St George would probably still be unbeaten. Plus I have said it before, keep up this pace and players will be dropping dead with heart attacks.

The rule has some merit, the issue is applies to too many infringements, and the refs are too liberal in its application and in its application have an unconscious (maybe conscious) bias toward darling sides... V’lan the Man has become Vlan the impaler for mine... Unlike Marki, I get plenty of things wrong... Only good rule change in the last decade plus was taking the corner post out of play...

I don't see the rules changing, next season they may change to scorer kicks off.
The ideal is scorer kicks off ftom their 40 metre line, the tired team should get to the opposition 40 and put in an attacking kick.
Teams need to be smarter at not conceding 6 agains.
We have conceded 140 points at least 90 of them down to poor reads, bad technique, poor positional play, dropping off, silly unforced errors. We need to fix our game, they will not change the rules, I think TV ratings will be good and crowds will be good. The media always beat things up and fans of losing sides grumble. But the overall quality of the footy is good, fast skillful players get a chance to shine.
Fans just want a covid free season, the good games will be very good

Most of the time the 6 agains are justified, the problem is sometimes only 1 side gets them. So it isn't the ones they give, more the ones they don't give.

I think the problem is that there is reference point so decisions are all over the place. Offside or knock on for instance are clearly defined but with six agains refs, players and fans are not clear on interpretation

I think the problem is that there is reference point so decisions are all over the place. Offside or knock on for instance are clearly defined but with six agains refs, players and fans are not clear on interpretation My understanding is that 6 agsins are for 2nd efforts in tackles, and slow peels, also inside the 10. Some of the hold downs and 2nd efforts are very odvious. Inside the 10 can be hard to spot on TV. Anything to do with tidying up the ruck is always subjective, unlimited wrestle is also not great. Why I like the new rule is simple 1. The better team will almost always win. 2. The ref has a minor impact, the game rarely boils down to 1 decision. 3. Games are up tempo with plenty of action. 4. Any low scoring game features high quality defence on both sides. IMO in the era of the wrestle defenders in some teams have become sloppy on team work, reading the play and technique. It is easy to defend slow play the balls with a well set line. Now the balance is arguably too far in favor of the attack. But coaches will work on the defence. Teams can improve on teamwork, decision making positional play and technique. Fitness is the only area coaching can't improve. That is why I suggested the kick off rule, or perhaps giving the defending team the option of a timeout after conceding a try. The only real problem is that the momentum is too hard to shift. More bench players and interchanges would also fix it. I want action, just more chance for the defending team to have a rest after conceeding.

NRL laws and officiating are a complete mix of inconsistancies and contradictions. E.g. we introduce a 10 metre rule then, because players need time to retire the 10 we allow a period of hold down in the tackle and also allow 1 movement after the ref calls held. Totally in conflict with the rules. Smart coaches (one in particular) take advantage of this time to introduce the wrestle and an associated range of dangerous acts. Now we have 6 again etc as a means of speeding up the game while maintaining the approved slow down because of the 10. We also remove the right of the captain to go for distance, a goal or whatever. Throughout this, power and discretion is given to refs.
