Does anyone know what the rules about playing youth players or squad limits. We have an absolutely ridiculous schedule coming up
  • Home vs Wellington on the 1st of May

  • Home vs Western United on the 5th of May

  • Away vs Melbourne City on the 9th of May

  • Home vs CCM on the 12th of May

  • Away vs Adelaide on the 16th of May

  • Away vs Newcastle on the 21st of May

  • Home vs Melbourne City on the 25th of May

  • Away vs Western Sydney on the 30th of May

plus a game against SFC and Perth yet to be scheduled and an ACL play off. there is no way that a 23 man squad can play (and be competitive)  in that sort of schedule. can we send our youth team out or are we capped at the amount of players we can bring into the squad.

i would be focusing on the next two home games and newcastle away as games we really should have our first team out playing as fresh as possible. If we could send out a complete youth team i would do that for melbourne (not likely to get points off anyway)  and Adelaide (usually a physical and heated game) away and rotate the squad for CCM, melbourne at home and WSW away. I would also forfeit the ACL game.

I'm wondering if Moon sees Kudo as a likely replacement for what Macca was playing.
With the pace of Champs and work rate of DWH maybe Kudo can sit behind them??

as others have said we should hitting his feet, and he can pop up around and behind Champs and DWH.

Just a thought but mite be worth a shot Warren because  if I was defending I would be concerned with Champs pace and DWH work rate and maybe Kudo could find that space that Macca was finding at times and he can find the net.

I have no doubt he has a massive ego and is probably just as painful in the sheds as he is on the field. Looking at what happened at WU, it would seem to fit. There was something in the WSW press release about moving to a club with a ‘proven’ manager. I might be reading too much into that but players with egos like that don’t always respect rookie coaches. I did read in one of the Newscorp articles something about McDonald signing a non-disclosure agreement as a condition of release. So we may never get to the bottom of it.

Proven manager?? Robinson?? Hahahaha.

I thought so too. Always good to hear when elite players do something unexpected and unasked for (and the same for the less than elite players for that matter).

Maybe the story made it too easy to identify the individual (which we don't want on the internet).

Possibly, although the thought I had the other day was it would be interesting to see Parsons in that Macca role. He's young and will make mistakes but he seems good on the ball under pressure and a couple of passes the other night made me think he has some good match awareness. I do remember someone saying he's more of an attacking midfielder than winger.

I also wonder if playing Kudo would really require a formational tweak. To play with that kind of player sometimes you need an extra man at the top of midfield or even a deep lying striker. Maybe, maybe not. Also one thing is for sure, as fit as they are, I can't see our 3 up top maintaining that helter skelter pace twice a week for 4 weeks. We'll have to mix it up at some stage.

I like what I see of Parsons, but I don't get the feeling that when he has the ball at his feet time stops.

He may be great in the role you are thinking of, but unless we get another player like McDonald I would be looking for a 'Parson's role' all of his own and write-off the 'McDonald role' as we were using him.

Also useless fact, we are undefeated in the black kit this season. 3 games, 2 wins 1 draw. Coincidence.... i think not....... it is a sexy kit.

Also, a couple more useless facts:

1. We are the form team of the competition over the last 5 games with 3 wins and 2 draws.  Only Melbourne city equal us, but we take are in the better form due to having three wins in a row.

2. Our destiny is still in our own hands.  If we win every game, we win the league.

3. We have 3 games in hand.  If played and won our next 3 games we are equal top.  Technically we are the top of the league on potential at least.

4. With only 17 goals conceded so far, we technically have the best defence in the league. And to be honest, at the moment, it is only Sydney FC who look likely to threaten this record.

5 We are in equal 2nd place on Goal Difference with +8 Goals.

6. This is a long bow, but if every team in the comp gets the same result as they got when they last played that team, then we finish in 5th place (this assumes victory vs Macarthur is a draw since they have never played each other).  It sounds pretty ordinary.  But...All we need to do is improve enough to beat Melbourne City and reverse this result when we play them (which lets face it if you are not better than the top side you do not win the league) and by my calculations we win the grand final and play Sydney FC in the last round for the premiers plate.  ie If we are good enough, we are on track to win the league.

7 We lead the league on away form in pretty much every statistic except Goals scored where we are still 3rd and do have an away game in hand to score enough goals to overtake Melbourne City and Adelaide.

8. We have more home games to play than any other team except Perth Glory.  If we right our form, you would expect us to sail into the top 6 quite comfortably.  In fact with all things equal if we maintain away form and perform as expected at home, we would have to be a top 3 side, maybe better.

Any other positive but useless stats?

Thanks for the effort of putting all that together. Fun and interesting conjecture.

Positive and useless fact - Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar are the only teams with three Rs, two As and an O in their name, but we did it with 8 less letters.

The only thing really standing against us now is the flurry of games, and what injuries and weariness do to us. The rest is in our hands if we can grab it.

Alex Parsons looks a likely player, flies under the radar but he is a class player.

I have quite like what I have seen from him so far. He seems to be able to make space for himself quite well. My only detraction would be that he seems very very left footed. This likely won't stop him from becoming a good aleague player but may stop him from pushing to the highest level.

Some lower league players who score a lot of goals do it on the back of blinding speed, or just being half a step above the defenders they face. When they move up to the aleague they can be half a step lower than the defenders they face.

Parsons so far has created chances well around the bigger, 'better' opposition and that is a good sign. As teams work out how he plays and scores it will be the same challenge all forwards face scoring against players who know your strengths and weaknesses. Definitely a good start for him at this level and looking forward to seeing him play more.

Look at his goal and his previous shots. He got some great technique to get some wicked curve on the ball as well. He made a big difference when he came on in our attack. Be interesting now how he goes now that he is on the radar. He really needs to develop a right foot as defender know all they need to do is keep on that side and he is threat less
