+x+x+xSorry, but more than 10000 empty seats there. Sorry, 20,330 official attendance. Watched replay and looked about right. Fabulous atmosphere. Amazing so many attended with the scare of Covid still rampant. Meanwhile, recently somewhere else in the Melb NPL are having kittens over their derby at 1500. Not criticising, it’s a great number for the little ones. Official attendance does not necessarily mean that is how many actually show up. For example, Arsenal post anything between 59900-60000 every week when clearly their are thousands of empty seats visible.( when they were allowed to attend ). But the 20K at the wsw derby looked about right. There’s no one attending the Arsenal games atm, and it looks right. Match the figures with observation and you’ll get a fairly good picture without splitting hairs.

AFL having no issues drawing crowds in Melbourne, nor are the Melbourne Storm. The difference in seasons starting between codes with the Covid cycle is a major factor. Hard to quantify but it’s no coincidence.

Been attending football matches for 50 years, I don’t often get it wrong like this time.

What is important is that the stadium looked more full than empty, looked great and it rocked.

What is important is that the stadium looked more full than empty, looked great and it rocked. This is true, the crowd looked good on TV. Forget about debates about what the real crowd is. If the stadium gives the official attendance, then that's it, end of story - it's absolutely impossible to confirm on TV one way or the other.

Glory v MV 3,134 MC v Roar 4,530 WSW v WU 7,539 Jets v SFC 4,404 MV v Mac 3,822
No Adelaide v Nix crowd available. So for the moment, it would appear the Victory were involved in the two lowest attended games of the last six games played.

The last time they went this badly they started off with successive crowds near 40k and by the end of the season they had dropped to 12k.

That's still a long way from where they are now You have to remember the days of the February grand final are long long gone now when Victory were at the height of their popularity and managed to sustain it for the most part when the calendar shifted a couple of months. We are in May now, MV are up against the other football codes, the weather and every club in Victoria outside the A league. Even if they were in the top 6 it’s doubtful they would be getting anywhere 10k..people are busy and theirs simply too much on this time of year. You can pick any day of the week now and you’re up against it.

Gyfox, I was at the first A League game at Suncorp, paid for a Fox sub every year just to get the A League, had the great pleasure of being at all the Brisbane grand finals and I am honestly starting to think that the A League is finished. The kind of TV deal people are hoping for defies rationality.

People kept saying that once City start winning that crowds will come. Unfortunately, even with a team topping the table by 11 points, playing some of the most exciting football seen here in years, it’s hard work. It’s hard to see how far things have slid across much of the league, but we better hope the APL team have got a very, very talented marketing strategy worked out for next season

Melbourne has its ALF and Victory has its traitors and fake two timing supporters. But the ALeague will bounce back, maybe not to where it was, because there’s no strong or influential leadership like we had in Lowy, but it will improve by default.

This. Many of us saw and proclaimed the writing on the wall 5 years ago. Your didn't have to be a genius to read how the metrics were trending. The only thing I didn't predict was that the A League would still exist with these attendances.

This will sound like im defending the comp but the reality is as i've pointed out we are in mid May, the football community are attached to there local clubs whether its npl, state leagues or running around with the juniors, nobody has time for the A league when the local stuff starts. Cant compare it to October-Feb when nothing else is on. Whilst the crowds havent been anything to write home about at any point this season, once the locals start its too much to compete against, this isnt even taking into account other codes.
