Would be interesting to know the numbers over the last 5 years for HIAs for D vs A... ie how many attacking players struck in the bogging vs how many defenders aiming low being knocked out by a knee or hip...
Then throw in friendly fire head knocks...

Shirley the NRLol has the data on this and that data has been carefully considered when implementing mandates to avoid possible  litigation...

I find it laughable that the reason ‘hitting blokes in the head has always been against the rules’ is trotted out when so many rules.have been ignored over the past 15 years... especially the PTB...

A small sample size I know but....
Of the 5 players who failed HIAs last weekend, 3 were defenders...

I'm not sure if that's good or bad. It could be taken as an indicator that head injuries are inherent  in the game and not the result of illegalities. Was this the initial defence the Knights took in the McManus case?

Zef, while I totally agree with what you suggest there is just one slight problem. Just take a look at the Norm Provin - Arthur Summons Trophy. It represents everything Rugby League but to suggest that a player as tall as Provin try to tackle someone as short a Summons below the nipple line seems difficult considering Summons only comes up to Provins nipples. I guess this is where technique and discipline need to be taken seriously and coached properly.

Who cares?
Theres money to be made with these stupid rules.
All you have to do, is pick a team to win 13+ and you'll get juicy odds.
All they need to do, is duck or fall into tackles in a "natural" way and they'll manage to keep the opposition down to 11 players...

Fekk keeping them to less than 8 points. Keep them down to under 11 men!

I don’t think anyone has a problem with the bin being used for careless or reckless head shots...  Like the one on Papy last week...

it’s the incidental or accidental ones where attacking players falling or ducking that are the concern, they will never be wiped out of the game... should be penalty, on report and let the MRC sort it out if required...

Both the hits on Teddy happened around hip height, so simply tackling lower would not have mattered... he’d have copped a shoulder or forehead to the head instead of a forearm and bicep...

And it won’t address what I have a very strong suspicion generates the most concussions, being the tackler connecting with elbows, hips, and knees making guess what, an under nipple tackle... but I bet we won’t see any data released on  that...

If were using wrestling as an argument to support tackling lower that prob is easy fixed by refs calling held earlier...

If the nipple rule comes in will players have to play shirtless???....

I bet some coaches would force their players to have ‘nipple reassignment’ to have them lowered to increase the likelihood of offloads and second phase play...

Well dman, I think you are on the right track. Being careless just means that you failed to give enough attention to the technique used resulting in an awkward hit. Where as reckless implies that you did not care on how you effected your tackle and could be deemed deliberate. There is a big difference and a ref should obviously know the difference and could easily deal with it onfield. For instance: high shot considered careless, if defender not hurt - penalty and on report but if player hurt 10 in bin, plus penalty and on report. If the high shot is consideted reckless instant off, penalty and on report. If the ref doesn't think that the head high was intentional or was accidental from player falling or ducking use the lesser punishmemt and the judiciary can work it out later.

Again I suggest they look at how Union hav codified this. As part of their procedures they recognise a significant drop in height that the tackler does not have time to adjust to. Mitigating factors are recognised

I saw the first one, Teddy's running style and tendency to drop is a factor.
If players are aiming lower it will happen less often... I am not sure the one I saw on Teddy was worth 10 in the bin, penalty yes, maybe a warning.
However overall they are still getting a lot of the calls right.  Shoulder contact to the head a send off everytime IMO.

Over the last half decade, maybe even longer, The Broncs have quite a few Jonathon Thurston style regrets.

Walsh and Walker being the latest.

No one thought they’d see the day The Broncs would have to go on a buying spree to inject talent, but that’s where they’re at. And with a 2nd Brisbane team it’s probably where they’ll stay.

Almost slipping under the radar, so to speak, is some potentially huge news to be released on or before June 25th that’s so weird, I’m just gonna leave it hanging for the drama of it all. Something even I don’t believe.... well I believe in the big picture type of way but not really ever this... thing.... anyway. But it seems some evidence is unexplainable at minimum and compelling in potential.

And believe it or not, we got Trump to thank for it.

Big difference for mine with Vaughn vs Tevaga and Hiroti ones is the tacklers arm position going into tackle... Vaughn’s arm virtually vertical, running down beside his body... the others, the tacklers arm came in horizontal at should height...
Big difference between ,careless, reckless, and unlucky...

The motive behind the crackdown is impossible to argue against. unfortunately games are being distorted and players are becoming better actors than Portuguese soccer players. I find myself losing interest and only part watching games. Consistency, mitigating circumstances and impact all need addressing.  People keep saying players don't go out intending to injure other players. If this is the case the transgressions are accidental and therefore difficult to eliminate without a total rehash in how the game is played.
I don't know the answer but surely the NRL knew the dangers from head injuries before round 9. Instead of patting themselves on the back I would like the NRL to explain why this wasn't flagged at the end of last season to give everyone a chance to adjust. I'm sure other changes are needed to help facilitate this crackdown. Rule and interpretations need to be changed in the off season.

Well 25th June is my wife's Bday and I dont think that is the news, unless my crap present gets some airtime.....

But funnily enough it's close to 1 week before Independence day in the USA so I suspect it is something americanism - especially if you mentioned Trump. Coming from you Zef, I'm with Dman (again) and think it's to do with ET life or space....
