+x+x+x+x+xI saw an article today about the struggles that the AFL are experiencing getting people to matches too. Didn’t read the whole article, but they apparently only had 18K at a match that would have been a 40k+ attendance in previous seasons.
It is hard to get traction, so we aren’t alone, but our struggles have been deeper for some time. More of a protest crowd, Richmond play at the MCG, the MCG based teams hate playing home games at Marvel stadium. Also appears to be more of a Melbourne thing, Aussie rules crowds interstate have been back to normal, the Vic state government petrified the community last year and everyone is still reeling from that. The AFL has the media saturation to get going though, it just automatically bounces back, we don’t have that luxury. You South Melbourne fans can also come & take the Sydney Swans back. I loved it when it was the VFL, then we didn't have to hear about this silly game. They're the biggest club in your state of any code. If Wanderers had continued on their growth trajectory, they may have been matching them by now. i genuinely can't believe how far WSW have fallen. i thought they'd be the biggest sporting club in NSW by now. Early success, brand new purpose-built stadium, passionate fans, represent the local community ----- and now about 5k turning up to home games. :(

Can’t see melbourne city getting more then 10k Grand finals are still big events, see no reason why 15-20k wouldnt turn up to a City grand final at AAMI. A week after securing the premiership, just 3k fans turned out to 'honour' Melb City at home. the fact that we're talking about City MAYBE getting half-capacity at its own ground for a grand final, shows you how dire things are. Its not ideal but 15-20k would still come across well on tv. I cant imagine less turning up, the nsl grand finals in Melb would get that many so no reason this shouldnt. My gut feel is City will lose in the semi though. If CCM V Newcastle can attract 37000 in Sydney then surely the so called ( laughingly ) sporting capital of the world can get 28-29000 to AAMI. Can't expect a club without that many fans to attract a full house at AAMI .. who would go to see them play? VIctory members or WU? Or are you expecting NPL fans to rock up? Melbourne doesn't really have a culture of going to a sport event just for the spectacle of it (exceptions are Grand Prix, AFLGrand final, Melbourne Cup, Australian Open ... maybe why we are the sporting capital) you go watch your club play ... mostly. Every other state that has hosted a final has manged to sell out no problems, and they don't have big week on week support either. BTW we are talking 50,000 + attendances.

Based on that you would have to say that EPL followed by LaLigua are the two best quality leagues in the world and baring maybe 8-9 clubs in UK and 3 in Spain, there are leagues that I would rate as more skilfull, more even and more entertaining as a spectacle.... Popularity is fickle man ... Those billions of Asian kids wearing Messi and Mo Salah shirts barely watch the highlights, let alone the other teams in the league.

Still have a long way to go to build a stronger base, but the move to the South East and success on the park do create some exciting opportunities.
ACL participation confirmed for 2022, first A League silver wear and some very exciting football displayed this season is a great achievement by PK, the players and everyone at the club.

And if they built a stadium in Liverpool (Sydney's southwest) what would their crowd attendance be ? The pool of Int-player's that they could attract to the A-league would be insane ! Well this is actually a big possibility , There was plans submitted and approved at the start of covid-19 . A new stadium , sports center , hotel and aquatic center were on the plans ! Any thoughts ??

Now, it's not uncommon for all Football codes with an International flavour, in Football & Rugby League in both play in the national Australian league & in Rugby they play each other at a state/regional area levels with teams from 3 countries, including New Zealand. It's only AFL (biggest sport in the world in Melbourne) that have no connection in New Zealand due to it's non existence outside of Australia. These attendances the Phoneix get, do include A-League teams from Australia, so I see the connection. As for Monoethnic culture, yes this team is a New Zealand team in the Australian A-League, seeking support from Kiwis. Now is Sth Melbourne was a Greek club in the top tier of Australian football, I would understand that, but you are not. You are just a monoculture club in another country, which is perfectly fine, but those in powers do not want this is the top tier of football. You should be complaining to them not us, we just bored with your agenda.

Now, it's not uncommon for all Football codes with an International flavour, in Football & Rugby League in both play in the national Australian league & in Rugby they play each other at a state/regional area levels with teams from 3 countries, including New Zealand. It's only AFL (biggest sport in the world in Melbourne) that have no connection in New Zealand due to it's non existence outside of Australia. These attendances the Phoneix get, do include A-League teams from Australia, so I see the connection. As for Monoethnic culture, yes this team is a New Zealand team in the Australian A-League, seeking support from Kiwis. Now is Sth Melbourne was a Greek club in the top tier of Australian football, I would understand that, but you are not. You are just a monoculture club in another country, which is perfectly fine, but those in powers do not want this is the top tier of football. You should be complaining to them not us, we just bored with your agenda. And Im bored with your casual racism: So NZ = good ethnic, Greek Australian = bad ethnic?

Just how’s to show what being mainstream does. I mean 22K this week, 24K last week. Not even an NSL FINAL achieved this consecutively. No monoethnic club can even dream to achieve this in the ALeague with their limited insular supporter base. You do realise that New Zealand is another country yeah? A club with another language in its logo and openly appealing ONLY to people in its monoethnic geographic catchment sales zone is mainstream???
