What we will find out this week is what happens when an in form highly rated side matches our intensity.

The reason I think we are a chance is they have a few out in particular their first choice hooker.
Their gsme v the Tigers was mostly about posting points on a 12 man team.
The Tigers intensity was patchy great at times, missing in action at other times.

I also rate Daley in reserve grade very highly.

I do rate your ability to spot lower grade hookers, but I got to say I watched that Reggies game and Daley looked very plodding. Plodded here, plodded there, plodded everywhere in everything.

So much so that after The NRL game I was convinced more than ever, that for better or worse, JMK is the best DH in the club by a loooooooong way.

But, if you’ve seen something in Daley I take in onboard.

I am only looking at highlights and stats.

What they tell us is.

1. Has a good long pass (but the better ones tend to make the highlights)
2. Defends well for 80 mins, doesn't miss many tackles
3. Seems to have a knack of breaking tackles close to the try line and scoring tries.

A typical try serms to be gets the ball at dummy-half and breaks a one-on-one tackle to score.

So far nothing to suggest he has a dynamic running game like JMK, or footy smarts like Harry Grant.

The tempo of his play may be an issue.

But if he can keep up with the pace of NRL, he would be a solid performer.

My rating has to be conditional on him playing a game of NRL.
I would be stunned if he is worse than Katoa, but that is a low bar.

I think the difference is that Daley had the benefit of the team playing with space and had longer time to carry out his role.

No doubt JMK had one of his best games, but lets face it, he has been at the club for years now and you can count on 1 hand how often he has played like that.
The reality is, we dont have any hookers who can take the game from the scruff of the neck when the halves are down or forwards are dominated. Very few exist in the game but that is what separates them from the rest of the pack.

I, like HD, am not convinced we have solved the hooker issue and will only be satisfied if the Cheese comes on board. It was pretty clear that JMK looked good on the weekend because he darted a couple of times from dummy half and scored that individual try. Any hooker that constantly runs from dummy half has my vote and i like the fact that the Cheese does that as his first instinct. It will add a new dimension to our attack and relieve the pressure from halves and forwards having to win the territorial battle.

I actually thought he did very well… he outplayed Billy Britain

Britain is an example where I am wrong so far.

Britain was a good defender and a competitor.

He had a kicking game and could create overlaps and line breaks on short sides.

That is the positives.

The negatives are a tendency to give away silly penalties.
But when he tried to step up to the NRL, he didn't make the cut.

He has lost his way and I recommend changing clubs for one last throw of the dice.
He needs to work on fitness, physical strength and mental strength.

Some how I think he has lost drive and desire. NRL is hard to get, he has to decide if he wants to go all in and work hard for it.

It is amazing how players can lose direction at the Dragons.

JMK needs to play like that every week. As good as he was, he needs to back it up again and again. Wakeham needs to impose himself on the game more and take control when we are on the attack. As good as we played and even though we dominated, we need to do more with the footy when we are attacking the goal line. Our end of set kicks are still a work in progress and this alone could be the difference between winning and losing against the Eels on Sunday.

One other thing that really gets to me is that i'm sick of this loser mentality that the team has. With a few minutes left and the match wrapped up we should have been going all out to put them to the sword. Instead we took penalty goals and looked to grubber into touch. I don't get it. And if the Dragons had of managed to score in the 2nd half that mentality would have cost us the game. We would have gone into our shells and tried to protect our lead and stopped playing footy. It's the worst approach you can have. I get it when there is 3 minutes left and we are up by less than a try but not when there is 20 to go. It almost cost us against the Sharks and we've seen it happen the last couple of seasons as well.

It takes a while to build confidence and standards.

We want the team to back that effort up with a similar effort against a better side.

I'll be happy if that is our standard this season and we produce it every week.
It should be good for a few more wins and avoiding the spoon.

Next season Burton and the Fox will add a lot to our attack, we need to strengthen other areas, but should be a stronger side, standards and expectations should be higher.

This season the game against the Dragons was 4th gear, and I don't know if we have a 5th.

No there was a post there, about the Gallen fight and some other things. He must’ve deleted it for some unknown reason. Certainly wasn’t offensive or anything. So he don’t like Gallen, who cares.

Been a lot worse written about less controversial characters this week, probably will be today.

I think I recognised the bloke from the old BDP once, had a debate about Mitch Johnson, and other QLD icons over the years. And I said a lot worse about Mitch Johnson than he did about Paul f***in’ Gallen.

Don’t sweat it CYD. No Paul Gallen relatives here.
