Come on man, Iredale was woeful in Marbella. He had a lot of chances to show what he could do and didn’t take any of them. The Olympics is too important to take a player like that who has never shown any ability at senior level. Everyone else’s careers would be suffering if he was leading the line. 

OK, so he was more than a goal or assist per game before his injury, but we'll put a line through him due a few friendlies that the coach wasn't even at?

In any case, if Duke was called up I'd like to know why Maclaren wasn't.

It would appear that the Japanese sides brought their first teams considering that their Aussies are playing. I haven't seen any visa players in any of the Chinese lineups, but I have seen some very high squad/shirt numbers.

I think he’s a good player but was was way short of match practice I Marbella. Similar to Taggart with the senior squad .

I'm all for picking seniors over juniors where needed to take it to some quality opposition, but if Arnie's not picking the best available in those positions then I don't see the point.

Yeah sure he played well for VFL Wolfsburg's second team but that means absolutely nothing. Con Ouzounidis looked decent at Everton's second team and he was rewarded with a contract in the Danish second division. 

That's not really relevant to my point. Is Duke the best available player in that position? Maybe all of Maclaren, Taggart, Giannou or Tomi Juric turned down a callup or were denied by their clubs, but with half of the players I listed being in their A-League off-season I doubt this is the case.

Wow, I had assumed he was called up when I was making my earlier post about Iredale and went through the list of our strikers in my mind. That makes it so much worse.

Best available player up front is purely subjective. Nothing changes the fact Iredale has been playing exclusively in the fourth division of Germany and deserves a call up for the Olympics. How standards have fallen.

Juric was just signed by Zagreb, 100% they wouldnt have allowed him to go. 

Imagine signing a player, and allowing him to play in the olympics and he goes and does his ACL. 

Gersbach, Duncan werent released by Arhaus, pretty sure it would the same case for Francois at Fulham. 

With regards to maclaren and Taggart. Maclaren's wedding has been postponed due to covid twice now, so doubt he'd want to go away and then have to do quarantine again. 

Taggart is coming off a massive lay off, he looks out of condition even in the ACL games. 

Giannou left camp cause of injury so probably why he wasn't considered. 

Theres also the fact it looks like japan could be going through a 4th or 5th wave of covid, a lot of players may have denied the call especially senior ones. 

Iredale not good enough for the squad, as someone stated he was woeful in the spanish camp. Id be asking why players like Tilio, O'neil and Parsons weren't picked

Seems like mostly speculation on his part to me. I'd like to hear more verified evidence from the parties involved before I make up my mind.
