+x+x+xrant (semi) RE: Our goalkeeper situation....The thing that pisses me off about the whole Barkas thing/signing, was we had the chance to BUY Forster about a month or two earlier for about the same price as what we ended up paying for Barkas. The reason why we never got Forster??.... Simple = The Celtic board decision. Both Forster (and Southampton) were keen on a permanent transfer deal. Forster wanted to sign a permanent deal with Celtic (Southampton seemed fine with the idea), and not another loan deal. Celtic weren't willing to pay for a transfer, preferring for another loan deal – Probably believing that they will end up getting him on a cheap loan deal again. Once they realised they've stuffed up big time they had to go look elsewhere for a a keeper and decided Barkas was the right man and paid AEK Athens £4.5mil (around the same money Southampton were happy for Forster). So every time Barkas stuffed up, or failed to be selected just pissed me off, due from knowing what/who we could of had, and how it was handled. On top of the whole Forster disaster/farce, we should have also have tried to do more at keeping Gordon – But that topic/conversation is for another time. /rant __________ On a positive note (one should always try to end with/on a positive🙂 )...... How good/great was the Malmö result against that other mob last night?? Well done 👏👏👏 😉😊 Pretty obivous why they didnt sign Forster = age and thus less years value from the transfer and no resale value. Sure hindsight is a wonderful thing but in foresight the move for Barkas made sense vs Forster. Guy had just started getting caps for Greece and been starter for AEK and is young and on the up. The move made sense at the time Age?? He was what at the time - 31?? 32?? That isn't old for a keeper. We all know keepers play several more seasons than their outfield counterparts. There was no downside or risk at signing Forster, as he had proven his worth many times over. He was always reliable, and had guaranteed that he can win the team 10+ points just on his own. But you are right.... It is pretty obvious why they didn't sign him.... They wanted, and gambled that they could land him on another loan deal – And they (and us) lost because of it. He's 33 now so was 32 at that time. Barkas is 27 now and was 26 at the time, a difference of 6 yrs. A 32 yr old non-international goalkeeper coming from celtic doesn't exactly have much resale value

One of the fastest first 15 minutes to a game I've ever seen. Could have been 3 nil up. By 40th minute Celtic players were gassed. But Rogic...hasn't played like that for ages, on fire.

The stream I have has no commentary. What a Joy! Can hear ghostly echos though of Slater and Bosnich saying "just kick it long, can't always play out from the back, give it some violence don't try to walk it in". Just had a look at some forums. The fans love this shit. An example: It's just great fun to watch Celtic again after last years horror show.

A 32 yr old non-international goalkeeper coming from celtic doesn't exactly have much resale value And Joe Hart is 34. Not every deal is about resale value. Yes, I know Celtic is pretty much a steeping stone for the young players who are looking for ways to get a move to the "big boy leagues" (and the money that goes with it).
As we are a "selling club"/steeping stone for most of the young players we produce and/or sign, then yes, the scouting team and board must consider on what sort of re-sale value (including sell-on fee percentages etc) that they can recoup at a later date. But as I said at the beginning of this reply not all signings are about what sort of a resale a player offers. There are a few different reasons as to why certain players should/are signed (as I know you know). _______ EDIT: We only have to look at the Edouard situation. He may end up staying this season and then move elsewhere for free once his deal runs out. So signing players with a resale in mind (which I know/believe was the case with regards to Edouard) doesn't necessarily mean that there will be a resale for/from the player(s). If Edouard does stay and sees out the rest of the season, then he better play the best football that he can possibly play and help Celtic finish on the top of the table. As winning the League this season will see the winners qualify directly to the Champions League Group Stage, and the guaranteed £30mil–£40mil that goes with it.

That biggest thing I took out of this mornings match was how much we missed Forrest last season. He is such an important part of the team.

Well the Celtic fans have well and truly drunk the Ange Cool aid now... a lot of them on CelticChat are now wanting him to be handed the 'keys to kingdom' as it were and given full control over the entire football department ala a Cruyff / ferguson / pep.
Apparently the reception Ange got when he walked over to the fans after the game was massive.
Rogic meanwhile many of them were saying start of the season should be sold now they are all saying its the best hes played in 3 years and talking about him being prem/euro quality again like they used to.
I watched the game and he did absolutely destroy the opposition at times, was dancing around them like witches hats. Was guilty of too many touches on a 3-4 occasions but you'd rather give him the license to express himself when he's ripping out plays like he was. So many times, particularly when Celtic countered the ball would be played to him with his back to opposition, in no more than 2 -3 touches he'd control the ball and have his man turned before spraying a raking pass through to a teammate who'd be in an absolute paddock of space. Was simply glorious to watch!

+xCan celtic resign arzani now they have ange as coach? Possibly a better fit now for him with Ange but think that ship has sailed. Arzani needs to be playing very regularly in 2nd division side until he has consistent form. But who knows? If Ange still at celtic in 2-3 years time? Arzani could return

+xIf I remember correctly, his grandfather was one of the originals in setting up the club?? Yep, that's right. One of the original 50s migrants to Australia who returned with a bit of cash to the mother country..... Australia really screwed up with Giorgos though, we should have capped him for the Socceroors imo.

The commentators seem sub-par at times. It's like they just can't keep up with the game. Great football to watch. Hearts can't get out of their half. Relentless. Rogic at times looks better than I have ever seen him. He needs a goal though. Second half - can't wait.

It's great seeing Forrest back in the line-up. We really missed him last season. This front three looks promising, hopefully they continue to go from strength-to-strength.

In my 50 odd years of watching Scottish football that is the one thing you don't have to worry about. It's the other end of the park that you lack ( Badly ).

+x+xThat Arsefelt is some player ! He could be the player that hands you another League Title if his performances don't improve soon. He's clearly got a brain fade in him, but he was so exposed covering for Taylor that whole 2nd half, there's no wondering why he looked so shaky. I think he'll definitely be better when/if a better full back is next to him.

that first half was one of the most dominant performances ive seen by any team in europe over the last few years. evened out pretty considerably in the second half. it just took a formation change to bring hearts back into it and the fatigue of the celtic 11 who clearly started to fade as early as 50 minutes in. shows there is a lot of work to go and some more depth needed. rogic motm by the commentary and in the stadium. looked most likely against a block of 8 in the box. slid through a number pf beautiful passes to set things up - including at least one that assisted a goal. did his best zidane amongst numbers to take the ball through and get a shot off. if they had the front 3 of christie - kyogo - abada fit again i suspect there would have been more goals, but christie and abada were out with minor injuries. it's great that ange has the squad now to put forrest and eduaord in as subs. starfelt is a liability. i think they need to recruit a first choice CB and starfelt needs to be battling out for the second starting spot if celtic are going to have the mettle to compete for the league and to go anyway into europa.
