Agree with all you say about the great Les Johns. My favourite player of all time.
He would have an incredible highlight reel if he played in a more televised (modern) era.
Some of the things he pulled off were absolutely freakish.
Unfortunatey had a fair few injuries, thus the nickname Dandruff.
If only there was a video of the Kevin Yow Yeh tackle at the old SSG.

Alas mate have searched high low and in between for that but it appears it doesn't exist. It was NSW Rail advert...something about being there on time ...hence the timely arrival of Les.. Yep, would love to see it myself. Greatest tackle ever made? Some who saw it would say so

Former BDP member Andrew-Mark Smith...user names AMS....has a couple of Johns' clips which has a bit more than the previous link. The tackle on Yow Yeh,at least style wise, was like the one he makes in one of the 2 clips Ams has...looks like on Kevin Junee..

Remember he mostly played in a weak team. Very small for a first grade footballer but being coached by another small fullback  in Churchill would  have helped. As you say a fair few injuries, some incurred  by the foul play rife in those days, an indication of the threat he posed.

Sounds like Blofelds lair on You Only Live Twice!

That wasn't the first thing that sprung to mind, but nothing beats a secret underground bunker with a psycho troublemaker in charge...

I have to correct myself though. Earlier I said "old paint on a wall" at Edfu, but it was actually engraved stone walls & I'm not sure there's any paint left at that place.
For what it's worth, it all fits in with what was written on the ancient Sumerian clay tablets about ancient gold mining in Africa (dating back hundreds of thousands of years BC) orchestrated by the "gods". Evidence of the old gold mines still exists but nothing much else in the way of evidence besides ancient writings saying why the mines were there linking it all to unproven "gods". For it to say "divine iron" on the walls at Edfu, not sure if that means gold or iron or whether there were ancient mines for both iron & gold before the pharoahs were there, would need to research that elsewhere. All the ancient writings say the "gods" whoever/whatever they were didn't come from Earth, but considering something was going on with serious mining in ancient times (at a time when primitives couldn't even make lasagna let alone figure out one mineral from another in the ground), I think it's also possible there was an advanced civ around back in those days, long destroyed, but located elsewhere (other side of the planet or somewhere) so it might've just been humans that had developed some neat tech, maybe on an island or whatever. So if they did "fly in" then the primitive locals would've thought it was from another world etc.
All part of the mystery of the past, looking at what evidence is around & trying to determine what is historical account or just myths.

I admit i have my doubts when scientists carry out their carbon testing to determine old timelines...
Its not so much the testing i have doubts on, its the reasons some things have deteriorated the way they have which could make them look like they are hundreds of thousands year old, when they are more like 3000 years old.

I dont know much about the process, i just have my doubts whether they can accurately account for or predict factors that could adversely influence their end result..... i might do some research before Zef tears strips off me.....

It’s not about how they “look”. It’s the rate of radio-active isotope decay - which is measurable.

And as always, Google is your friend. Everything you want to know is two words (carbon dating) and a mouse click away

I’m not a vegan , but since I had 200mm of my arse removed I’ve stayed off the red meat and feel, and am, a 110% better for it.

I advise everyone, there’s plenty of flesh available - chicken and fish being the standouts for your arse, lamb, pork all better than beef - mind you zi still eat beef but it’s a once a fortnight thing now - and NEVER BBQ’d.

which reminds me - Marki did you ver get your arse checked out? I remember you saying you had to squeeze them out with effort when I related my story.

Don’t put off the checkup, better a camera up your arse than having your guts completely removed and put on a table to be worked on. And then you have to drag a cafeter in your dick and a drain in from your guts around on a pole for a week.

First sign of struggle - get your arse checked.

And avoid the beef.

And I’d also recommend an air-fryer instead of a BBQ. An air-fryer does flesh better than a BBQ anyway, they’re BBQ killers on taste alone, but the real benefit is your arse will thank you for it, even with beef…. but again, avoid the beef as a staple.

Nothing wrong with a BBQ and beers with the boys on occasion, but “on occasion” is the rule. BBQ’s of any flesh really, but especially beef, is an arse killer. Don’t believe the non-fat spiels and all the rest - first hint of charcoal, your arse is paying for it.

Look after your arse, can’t live without it.

Yeah mate had a colonoscopy done earlier this year and it came back clear.

Interestingly, about 3 months ago (coinciding with lockdown) i made an effort to start drinking water. I previously rarely drank straight water and only had it in coffee, tea, soft drinks and beer.

I also stopped having a can of soft drink every lunch and reduced my beer intake to once every 2nd or 3rd night.

It has made a difference as i know empty my bowels once a day instead of the 2 or 3 times i did beforehand.....

I feel better for it too

Golf hcp hasnt improved though.....

Hey Zef, since you have eased up on the beef, have you had any problems with iron intake or are there plenty of substitutes available ( other than iron tablets)?

I had a blood test earlier this year as I get a full checkup yearly now and the only thing I was down on was Vitamin B, which don’t surprise me as I hate direct sunlight specially in the summer.

How I get my iron I got no idea, must be in other stuff I guess.

To be clear I’m not on some health kick or religiously follow some diet, though I am healthier than I’ve ever been.

I just keep off abusing the beef, particularly BBQ beef which I reckon I had almost every day up until my illness. It just clogs your arse, badly.

Doc told me there’s only 800mm of arse you can spare before you’re on a bag and I’m 200mm into it and you don’t want to push your luck a second time anyway so…

No, or very very little NON BBQ beef for me. And I advise anyone and everyone to be careful of it.

The thing I don't like about taking Vitamin D's is they're huge & it's not as simple as taking 1 or 2 each day, so from memory I think it's 4 of the big b'stards in the morning & another 4 in the evening. It's do-able but you know what I mean. Or you will when you're a week or 2 in thinking for christ sakes not again when it's that time..

Vitamin B you'll get from your Vegemite & other sources. I buy a jar of Caruso's because I'm not eating that stuff every day.
