+x+xWhilst it came off Behich, Sainsbury should have taken out the player with the ball. Gave him too much space. Yes. Can't believe the grief Behich is getting for that own goal. He barely had time to react. Sainsbury should have attached that ball instead of letting that bloke control it. Very poor. The blonde fella was a fantastic sub though. Personally I give Behich grief because he frequently makes critical mistakes, and he did not seem to do much to limit the attack down his side tonight. They ran past him, round him and through him pretty comfortably and he played a role in both their goals as well as several of their chances. I acknowledge I have a preconceived opinion about is lack of worth in the side based on how I have seen him play for years. I do not like what he does and do not understand what he brings that makes him first choice. We must have a better left back/winger somewhere - we just have to.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

+x+x+x+x+xI can see us going the same playoff route again. Just noticed enough quality players. A. D let's face it, the team that started tonight wouid be cannon fodder a WC finals group. Only ones player starting in a first tier league. When you have a player like Irvine starting and agreeing J2 player as your striker off the bench, the quality cupboard is pretty damned bare. Here we go again…everyone said that last time yet it took France luck to beat us. The gap between the best and rest isn’t as large as the euro snobs like to believe. These players are worse than the 2018 team. Prob the 2018 team was better bcuz we had a better manager but quality wise it is lack luster Van Marwijk was a bad manager who didn't understand his team. I really didn't like him, his style or his tactics. For all his faults, I feel more comfortable with Arnie. yahhhhh....nah I didnt love Bert but he is 10x better then GA

The pen was a shot ....as i said you take out the pen we had zero shots....if you have zero shots on target i dont know how anyone can say the opposition was lucky to beat you... Because you can have zero shots and still not be beaten…you know draws in football exist. not when u conceded 2 goals.... if anything i reckon 2-1 flattered us against France we had Zero control of the game and were 100% out played, we also got pumped by Peru....

Graham Arnold FFS. He turned a Netherlands team full of stars into a bunch of dour thugs. He got rightly criticicised at the time for the style of play despite making the final. Also he refused to play Timmy or experiment in any way. We were never as bad in attack (or as ugly in general play) as we were under him. But yes, he did tighten up the defence a little. Instead of the 9 goals we shipped in 2014 in a group of death and with a truly abysmal squad, we only conceded 5 in Russia. What a bloody magician.

We must have a better left back/winger somewhere - we just have to. well said, he may not have been at fault the 2nd one even though I credited him for both earlier BUT he's done and dusted. Got smoked most of the game, Ito had a canyon of space at times. As grazer mentioned earlier, the sooner Gersbach gains more fitness and avoids injury he'd be great to see consistently at LB. Got to say the moaning of Arnold, they are now 9 or 10 games unbeaten at home against us, wouldn't be any diff someone else in the chair. We fought back 2nd half here and there, oh yes some have quoted they are not as good as they once were yet alot of their players at least are in top flight leagues and as always technically better and their speed as I said pre game always above us. Shut us down easily all first half, they just lacked the finish adding to the 1nil to HT and Ryan played a MOTM performance in the 2nd stopping 2/3 more.

Otherwise going toe to toe with these teams it might expose you to a drubbing. I do think we are on the right direction under Arnie but we got some way to go if the team wants to do something at the World Cup.

I take it you haven't been watching the recent Euro Nations comp. The gap is of Grand Canyon proportions. Yet Asian teams did well at the recent Olympics. What on earth does that have to do with anything? The most distorted, bastardised football competition on the planet. How so? It’s a snapshot of a countries next generation of national team players. Top AFC countries are rarely blown away by the worlds best so I’m not sure where your argument is going? Yes, the euros were good, but without any AFC countries participating how can you possible gauge how they would’ve performed comparatively? Obviously I don’t think we (AFC) would win the euros. We will have to agree to differ on Olympic football.

He shipped 9 goals, he took us on the longest Qualification in history, and he left us with nothing 6 weeks out from the world cup. Maybe when pragmatism is the key let's be pragmatic, e.g. park the bus when were 1-1 against our biggest competitor away from home, and their dangerous on the counter. Arnie did fuck up. You point to a coach that doesn't I'll call you a liar. He also got us 11 on the trot

Japan still played like a team that much further ahead in the World Rankings and deserving to be so. Whether you think them a poor team or not, they are able to find a player with their passing time and again. One on one, with the ball at their feet, they are able to beat our players skilfully and consistently, and as a team they play cohesive, smooth and penetrating football. Tonight we failed to build much of an attack, failed to keep the ball when simple passing was an option, and got beaten at some point all over the park. Matt Ryan made some excellent saves and kept us in the game. We were not competitive tonight - but we were luckily still in the game near the end. Scoreline flattered us and we did not deserve a draw although we did have the option to play for one in the end as others have said. Rogic confuses me. He has skills that allow him to beat players, but they rarely seem to develop into any advantage for the team. If he beats a couple of players the next takes it off him or he fails to make a pass. I do not understand what it is that promises so much but does not deliver - when he proves he has the skills so often. Is it lack of vision? Poor decision making? Team mates thrown off by his unstructured, adhoc play?
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

I really didn't like him, his style or his tactics. For all his faults, I feel more comfortable with Arnie. So you understand France won the world cup, currently Denmark is the only team to not lose in the uefa qualifiers, and that was a close game. The only game we were out of it was Peru, but we had 15 players in that whole WC. In the grand scheme we weren't shit. I maintain that we could have been better with a more courageous and adventurous coach. Yeah, 3 goals shipped every game 4 years earlier sure was an adventure.

We just don't have the cattle, folks, and I don't know if we ever will. We have a small population and our best athletes are spread across four football codes and cricket.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI can see us going the same playoff route again. This is the issue with Socceroos fans - 'we just lost' 'we played with heart' This is all bloody irrelevant we lost, we didnt get out of the group.... The only time you can maybe have a bit of a moan is when you have a dodgy decision go against you ie the Red on Kewell in 2010. NZ managed to not lose a game in 2010 does that mean they are good? no they are rubbish and are more rubbish now then they were in 2010. It isnt about 'heart' or 'coming close' no one gives a f**k about that it is about winning - ideally with style but winning is what matters. This 'everybody' gets a ribbon mentality in the Australian public is actually getting ridiculous. What the fuck are you talking about did you watch any of the NZ games they played 10 behind the ball and looked shit. This is what I don't understand alot of you idiots want to beatify Ange, and call the - oops, I just ate my own poop... a saint because of his play. He also got us 11 on the trot As Andy Harper said, a Syrian shot off the post goes in and we were out of the WC Finals. Arnold has less quality to work with than even Postecoglou and BvM but he is still not the coach I want at the finals.

He also got us 11 on the trot Calm down i mentioned NZ bcuz the comment i was replying to said we 'were bad in the grand scheme of things' based on the results we got i pointed out how flawed that argument was by pointing out NZ I dont rate GA and it goes well 'beyond this game' - cards on the table he has been to 3 major Tournaments 2 Asian cups and 1 Olympics and he has under performed in all of them? this loss to Japan is crap but it isnt the reason i dont rate him. - in both Asian cups he had arguable the best squad or top 3 squads on the competition and should of at least made the final he failed to do that, the Olympics he was up against better opposition but essentially if he managed his squad better he might of got out of the group. There is no shame in losing to Japan at home even if they are out of form but GA has a track record of being a shit manager at this level. I dont know why he hasnt been sacked and i personally dont know why he is managing the national team It also goes beyond the national team when you look at his performance in the ACL

+xJapan still played like a team that much further ahead in the World Rankings and deserving to be so. Rogic is a flat track bully. As soon as he faces decent players, he becomes ineffective.

How we can't produce more than around 3 players per World Cup cycle with a good first touch for the 40 years I've been watching the Socceroos is beyond me.

He has the skill but imo he doesnt have the pace, perhaps the injuries he has sustained and age has slowed him down but imo his career and abilities are very much on the decline. sadly

Van Marwijk was a bad manager who didn't understand his team. For all his faults, I feel more comfortable with Arnie. He fixed the joke of a defense Postecoglou left him with and he literally couldn't believe the diabolically bad finishing. I don't think he'd seen that in his life. The guy coached a WC Final. I reckon 30 other teams at the WC would have gladly been those thugs. The guy had 6 months and basically changed everything after Postecoglou. You can blame Matt Ryan for 3 of tho +x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI can see us going the same playoff route again. Just noticed enough quality players. A. He litrally was the only midfielder moving forward in the first half.
