6,632 at the Smurfs game.
Perhaps the Matildas game cannibalised the Attendance tonight.

Hopefully Melbourne Victory and WS Wanderers can bring up the Attendance by at least 20,000

The independent A-League is off to a thoroughly Underwhelming start.
For my money it comes down to the teams and players. Apart from Melbourne City and possibly Adelaide, the League sports a seriously dull and mediocre set of players.
Both City and the Reds have players who have offer an excitement factor. None of the other teams do.
Watching the Bulls, CCM, Sydney and Melbourne Perth this weekend was about as entertaining as a trip to the dentist.
8.99 is very cheap football but on the evidence of the first two rounds I'm seriously wondering if its worth bothering.

That should have been been Wellington not Melbourne in my list of dullness

You  would  think   they  would  have  gone  heavy  on  marketing  & promoting  the  league , to  build  up  hype  and  excitement ,  but  it  seems  its  as  if  the  league  is  practically  invisible...

The slide continues. My earlier post stands. Zero excitement about the competition. The last two disastrous expansion choices have done irreparable damage. I fear.

Correct.
Plus Wellington having to play in Wollongong doesn't help.
Gallop and Lowy killed the league when they neutered active support.
It will be a slow burn to get it back.
At least there was active support at AAMI Park.
Plus the RBB has been back at CommBank for 2 weeks in a row plus there was Active Support for both Sydney and Newcastle in the away bays.

I noted that there were over 4000 at 2 FFA Cup games recently South Melbourne FC v Melbourne City and Sydney Olympic v Smurfs

The  old  ffa   was  getting  crowds  of  40,000+  up  to  their last  season.

Based  on  the recent  reported  sale  of 30%  of  the  league  for  $130m, would  put  the  total  value  of  the  league  that they   built  in  just  15  years   in  the  vicinity  of  half  a  Billion  dollars  (even  after  covid).

And  you   say   the league  was "killed"  ?

Have to say I was disappointed by Victory’s crowd. I was expecting high teens. It just goes to show that we have a long way to go as a club to get people back on board after 2 disastrous seasons. As does the league in general.

I might add that the fixturing doesn’t help. Melbourne Sports fans hate Sundays. We love Friday and Saturday. I’m expecting sub-10,000 on Sunday for a 6:45pm kickoff.

Two years of pandemic would have broken a lot of habits.
Live sports watching is a bit of a habit.
It's a habit easily broken, because it often requires a bit of effort, and/or is one formed with other people who often have changing priorities.
Coaxing people to re-establish the habit takes a lot longer than breaking the habit in the first instance.

1000% agree with this. I went to a neutral game yesterday and have that itch back. I am much more inclined to go again after going to that. I am confident things will come along, maybe not this season just yet, but they will.
