Where do I rank Ange alongside recent Celtic managers??....

It's a bit had to judge as he has only been at the club for a few months, but what he has done in those few months has been nothing short of magical.

If I am to judge on style only, then he is right up there with Rodgers, and slightly ahead of Delia and Lennon. That said, style isn't everything as tactics play a huge part, especially in European competitions. So when it comes to tactics IMHO he still has a fair way to go when comparing to the three others I just mentioned. Tactically the top two (IMO) are Rodgers and Lennon followed by Delia than Ange. If you cannae win pretty, than win ugly. I will take an ugly win over a "pretty" loss every single time.

As I have said previously Ange needs to be able to adapt to what is happening in front of him during the game – Especially when it comes to playing in Europe. I've said it before you can't play attacking football at 100kph every game. As a club, we have history with that mentality and we often finished with nothing to show for. I will admit the times have changed and the domestic competition isn't as tough as it once was, so domestically he will get away with his style moreso than those of years past.

Back to tactics – If he can learn to change his style when needed (especially in Europe), where he may need to learn to let the other team to control possession, and hit those teams on the counter and get the upset win here and there, then he has the potential to go down as one of the greats who can leave a true legacy (will also depend on how long he stays at the club). But he still has a long way to go before he reaches that stage/level.

As for the other lot, and their new manager I cannae say whether or not he will bring in his own backroom staff, I've heard that he may bring in a couple, but you would be better off asking one of their supporters (ie 'Sutherlandbear' or 'A Bunch of Huns Hacks') on these boards for clarification with regards to van Bronckhorst, and any backroom staff he may bring in.

Bunch of Hacks is fuckin your's.
He brought in his own backroom staff, it's how it's done at big clubs.

He's certainly living the dream..... I hope he spends a  bit of time in Scotland but I have a feeling his ambition will see him in one of the big four in EPL before the end of the decade... In the mean time he is getting more respect from opposition fans in Glasgow than he ever had from certain "football" people over here.

He's not a tactician... he's a philosopher. Again people don't understand him. It's about creating a team of believers.. to buy into a single idea.. to play possession based football and dominate your opponents.. its the reason it takes so long for him to get results.... holy jesus..he will never ever change his style.

Agree. My two favorite football characters are Cantona and Postecoglou. Both different to normal football people. You wouldn’t want a team of Cantonas and nor would you want a whole league of Postecoglous managing but they definitely make the game richer.

Ange is now an acomplished actor. He was on a Christmas show recently. He played a fatherly role feeding a bunch of youths, similar to Howard of Happy Days.
I think he could spot a gig on Australian or British tv in future.

I’d be surprised if I said anywhere I was a massive Celtic fan, but happy if you can prove otherwise. I’d like Celtic to do well this season and have followed them on and off over the years when they have fielded the likes of Viduka, McDonald, Rogic and Arzani (very briefly). But I also followed Rangers results when Moore was there. Muscie was there too from memory. What I am, and I am sure I have said this in different threads, is a follower of Australian players and managers first and foremost. Country before club, always. And I have loved Ange’s footballing philosophy since his South Melbourne days. Hence, I want him to do well at Celtic and think he is travelling ok, all things considered. I also like reading football books, such as the classic Football Against the Enemy by Simon Kuper which has an Old Firm chapter and more recently Inside the Divide by Richard Wilson, which is entirely dedicated to this rivalry. Now, if any of that offends you, there’s not much I can do about it. It seems to piss you off that I am a casual observer of this intense rivalry rather than an insider nutjob. But none of that means I don’t understand football. Matter for you to deal with really.

So you cannae use tactics/be a "tactician" while at the same time being a "philosopher/making a team of believers"??

2-1 up, away with 15-ish minutes remaining in a game that the team MUST get a result (draw at worst) for any chance of progressing further in the competition. That is a scenario where you don't sub your attacking players (who were also doing a good job defensively also mind you) for other attacking players.  That is the time where one should be making sure you're defensively set-up soundly. You can still use the speed the team has up front to hit the opponent on the counter if you still want to attack whenever an opportunity arises.

As I have said many times, I really do like Ange's style of play, I did when he was in charge of Brisbane, and now Celtic. I also want him to be successful while he is at Parkhead, BUT he needs to learn to adapt/change tactics/style when needed. Changing things/style during certain in game scenarios is NOT a "sign of given up/not learning from his philosophy" (I'm paraphrasing here), it's being a good manager. Being stubborn in your ways... Not so much.

If he can't do the above, then he won't be having any top teams from the top leagues chasing him. On the otherhand, if he can add those extra strings to his bow then the world is his oyster. If he can't,  then I believe he will be overlooked for many potential future moves for more all rounded managers – Philosophy or not.

Neither of us will know but I think Ange subbed the three attackers in that Europa game simply to rest them for the next League game which was only three days away - a game which they then won and two of those three subbed players started and played well in. I don’t think he subbed them to be attacking and he simply had misplaced faith that the three coming on would continue with the defence up front approach of those they replaced. But we will never know and yes, it backfired, badly.

Of course, winning those three League points on the weekend was more important than the lost Europa game, so maybe subbing off Kyogo and Jota early was actually the right call anyway? The squad isn’t deep and Ange needs to get the most out of the best players in this heavy period. Anyway, I don’t think Angeball is as reckless or naive as some others do but it’s a game of opinions.

(1) Neither of us will know but I think Ange subbed the three attackers in that Europa game simply to rest them for the next League game which was only three days away - a game which they then won and two of those three subbed players started and played well in.

(2) I don’t think he subbed them to be attacking and he simply had misplaced faith that the three coming on would continue with the defence up front approach of those they replaced. But we will never know and yes, it backfired, badly.

(3) Of course, winning those three League points on the weekend was more important than the lost Europa game, so maybe subbing off Kyogo and Jota early was actually the right call anyway?

(1) Possibly. As you say neither of us really knows. Only Ange can answer that question.

(2) Possibly, but watching the game unravel in front of your eyes, with questionable/bizarre substitutions, when the game was there for the taking can drive any sane person insane... And football fans are rarely sane to start off with 😟🤯

(3) Very good point. With what is at stake this season, with regards to what winning the League means/receives (direct route to the CL Group Stage & it's treasure chest) has made winning the league so much more important than that of previous seasons.

(4) True, hopefully he will get the backing to bring in the players he needs to strengthen the team. We have the coin, it's just to be seen if the board will open the strings.

With the 1-0 win this morning Celtic stay just four points off Rangers. I watched  most of the match as it was on Kayo and Celtic played some good football but wasted some chances too. Kyogo looked offside for their goal but these things even out. Injuries to three key players will further test squad depth in this busy period.  I thought Rogic looked good in his return match, and was quite string on the ball. Jota will be biggest loss if he is out for a while. Celtic have the strong Dundee side this weekend, with Rangers playing the shit Dundee, so interesting weekend coming up.

Have only seem the five minute highlights but gee, Celtic looked good (i guess the that’s why they call it highlights). Three good goals. The new boy Scales got good reviews for his cameo too. And Rogic’s goal showed both his strength and skill.  An impressive 0-3 away victory and it seems Ange has the team now playing how he wants them, albeit with soft tissue injuries coming out of the last few matches. Clearly the fitness isn’t where it needs to be for this high tempo football, hence the need for greater squad depth and quality. While only four points off Rangers I have a feeling that the quality and depth of the squad might not be enough to hunt down Rangers this season but who knows - injuries and rehabilitation  are going to play there part and I have no awareness as to how good Celtic’s back room staff, physios etc are - big club, so they should be top notch. Anyway, I actually am enjoying the Scottish Premiership and happily absorbing whatever Kayo dishes up.

I watched the game. It was the total performance against a team that are doing well this season. Celtic can catch Rangers but they'll need to beat them when they go head to head.

Ange seems to be gaining the trust of the board so they are bringing in the right staff and players to suit his style. That was not the case at the start of preseason and that's why it took forever to get players in and coaching staff in. It's the reason why they aren't top at the moment but still a long way to go this season so it could still happen.

Apparently Ange looking at bringing in 3 more Japanese players in the Jan window.

Out of the three Japanese players link to Celtic, Daizen Maeda (SS/CF/RW) almost seems like a certain. As for Reo Hatate (LB/CM/LW) and Yosuke Ideguchi (DM/CM/Box-to-Box). Out of those last two, Yosuke Ideguchi could possibly be a good pick-up, as we only really have the one 'Box-to-Box' player at the minute in McGregor. 'LB' has been a problem area for us all season, so Reo Hatate could also be a decent signing (I cannae comment to much as my knowledge on the Japanese scene isn't all that high), though Ange may want to continue playing Josip Juranovic (RB/RM/CB) as an Inverted 'LB' as he has done a few times this season.

We also have the hope/possibility that the likes of James McCarthy (DM/CM) and Georgios Giakoumakis (CF) can get over their niggling injury issues and start being able to build up their match fitness and provide depth and value to the playing roster, along with Christopher Jullien's (CB) return from a very long layoff making his own return. If all three can make full comebacks it would/could almost feel/be like three new signings.

We also have the possibility that a few of the young lads steping up and prove their worth. Guys like Dembéle (RW/LW) (once recovered from injury), Ewan Henderson (AM/CM), Adam Montgomery (LB/LW), Liam Scales (CB/LB/LM).

As for players leaving/heading out the door, the likes of Vasilios Barkas (GK), Boli Bolingoli (LB/LWB/LW), and Albian Ajeti (CF) all look certain to be leaving. There also could be a couple of youth players going out on loan, the likes of Conor Hazard (GK) as an example.

If Barkas, Bolingoli and Ajeti leave, we may need to find another player or two to help add depth, especially if Ajeti and Bolingoli leave.

I guess like all previous seasons, it will all come down to how much money the board are willing to spend during the January transfer window, and how quick any transfers can be finalised. If they fully back Ange, and get the players who Ange along with the scouting team have identified, and get the transfers done early in the window for once, instead of waiting until the final day, who knows how good this team could be.

I also want to see Celtic take up the buy-out clause for Jota, and sign him permanently as soon as possible. Should have been done already by now IMO.
