I'm glad we now have the money and and possibly a broadcasting for a NSD I just hope we can provide immunity from p&r for glory and nix so we can keep the NSD as an east coast and SA in much the same way the og NSL was so that it can be manageable cost wise.
I would start with 14 comp (3qld, 3nsw, 3vic, 2sa, 2nnsw, 1act) with 2up-2down p&r but Glory and Nix are exempt from relegation and WA and Tas clubs excluded from promotion

Well, that was better then NPLtv with a couple,of cameras but did have broadcast issues , especially with audio. And what the f#ck is with the sideline reporter being asked her opinion during the game like they do in the AFL,,,, that shit is so plastic Optus - DO NOT DO IT AGAIN. PLEEEEEASE........ Otherwise Joey Lynch is an absolute pro and MUST be involved in NSD broadcasting and Bubbs has always been a legend, wouldn't mind her being involved also.
Match was a bust from the South Melbourne POV girls did their best, had a goal not awarded and fell to a dominating Calder, who's s second goal was an absolute screamer, well worth the watch for any neutrals  Well done to Calder, they where the  better team on the day and are deserved 4 tikes Nike Cup winners, pitty they cant defend their title as they cease to exist next year, looks like WU will have some silverware in their nin existent trophy cabinets after all...
Looked like a decent crowd but what was all the Western United fans and flags and shit? More trashy western plastics rock up to  support their NPL affiliate club that is yet to re-brand to WU than actually go see their men's team... hahahaha losers...,, Love their banner too , as if the 15 year old girls playing for our Womens NPL side cared about these losers having an Isuzu trucks league license....

WTF is wrong with you Davide? Seriously man, seek help.

aha me?

I used to come here to talk about United games and Socceroos games and it was an enjoyable place.

Little boring pissants like you do nothing but post negative bullshit spending hours a week putting down something you hate to people who like that something with the same point over and over and over and over and over again.

What pleasure you get from yucking someone's yum is beyond me.

Those scenarios above are EXACTLY what you do on here.

If you can't see that it's pathetic, seek help.

Once you start exempting clubs from relegation for any reason (whether geographical or because they're too big to go down), you've screwed the integrity of the process. This happened in the NSL's attempts to have pro-rel and it turned it into a farce, with South Melbourne for instance saved from relegation because it had too many fans (oh the irony). Just accept that maybe one year a team like the Glory will go down and hope that they bounce back up again. Travel costs for the NSD should be centralised, so that no team is penalised for their location, and if you have the odd NZ or WA team the extra costs are spread around the league as a whole.

100% all of this.

Particularly a central fund to equalise travel costs.

So your basically saying that WU would NOT be "saved" from relegation because of a lack of fans? hahahahahah thats so sad for them, I agree.

South have 10 players in the W league so they essentially beat a mixture of our under 19s and even younger.

The Western flogs had a banner at the ground that said "no license" and were trying to bait South supporters into a confrontation. Absolute tinpot club.

Thats so funny man. hahahahahah I felt so sorry for the Calder girls and their parents having 15 year old chanting "come on you girls in green" through a megaphone when Calder's colours are still blue and white.../ How disrespectful.. hahahahahah what absolute try hards.....

They weren't even interested in bidding for the A-League when the rights came up, even though they clearly had some money stashed away (since they were able to increase the amount spent on EPL rights from $60m to $100m a year). And not just A-League, they didn't bid for the FA's Socceroos/ACL/FFA Cup package either. They haven't spent a cent on broadcasting or promoting NPL or grassroots level football, except for the handful of documentaries you mention (and they aren't even doing these any more as far as I can tell).

A more mature approach would see a synergy between broadcasting Euro leagues and Australian football. This worked well for Fox Sports for a time, and this was the thinking behind Paramount's bid, but they were trumped by Optus, who will now spend $100m a year to stroke the egos of Eurosnobs while doing nothing for the local game.

df just curious have you the inside info on OptusS to make these comments ?
Just wondering being your talking as if you know what they had in their minds or just assuming.
The way I see it from research there was a curve ball that in the USA Turner Sports and Univision both had the rights to the Champions/Europa Leagues, they were paying UEFA approximately US$100 million per season but they opted OUT on resigning hence FIFA infact approached CBS/Univision and they allegedly paying US$140M P/A so Optus obviously lost out and no wonder they went the extra mile paying to extend their EPL contract, who wouldn't, if thats your "core" premium product its logical going hard to keep it thats competition whereas CBS decided not to counter offer for the EPL as you have eluded.
They like any telco/or media conglomerates are parisites period incl CBS no matter they investing here, FOX did the same through the honeymoon period as we all saw, everyone rejoiced didn't they.....
Lets all re visit this in the following years, in the big picture when the chips are down one day like every OS backer they couldn't give a stuff what happens here in the end.
Its dollars and viewers, FOX saw the writing on the wall years ago besides their internal probs, AL and Union were basket case's for them after the highs.....

No inside info, just going off the media reports that Optus did not even bid for the A-League or the FA package. The only serious bidders were Paramount and Stan.

At the time Optus were paying $60m per year for the EPL. Logically you'd think they could see some value in the A-League: win subscribers who aren't already on their service, maybe increase monthly fees due to the extra content, a winter season as was being mooted could even have helped retain customers over the fallow EPL off-season. They could have partnered with SBS or 7 or someone to make a play for rights. But no, they didn't submit a bid.

Then six months later they magically find another $40m a year for the new EPL rights. At the same time they seem to have cut back on production values and are mainly just relaying the international feed (which may be what viewers prefer anyway).

Keep in mind the CEO of Optus (Kelly Bayer Rosmarin) was part of the Lowy FFA board, and quit shortly after they got dumped. "Careful what you wish for."

Sounds like old Kelly Bayer Rosmarin would know exactly what sort of subscriber numbers the Isuzu truck men and women could bring to Optus and smartly made sure they didn't bid for that albatros around their necks. Smart move.

ah ok assuming from media reports.
Both of us know sweet FA and the media talk crap 99.9% of time but we can only guess what a corp backroom intent is, I'm sure there would have been plenty discussion......

From the outside I think they made the right call by the look of it, then again being KBR is there and the type of product OS does provide be more like wish they did as MSC quotes as well..
Stumping up the extra to extend their EPL contract you would have been a mug not doing so due to its good subscriber base.
I have not noticed any diff in my regular viewing of OS.
Nothing has changed barring losing CL/EL.

Hey LFC, its only wild wild rumours at this stage but OS may soon have quite a bit of local football content. They have already started a mjni magazine type show, not sure if you caught it? With EPL  Bundi,  Serie A and even decent amount about Aleague news.... they were talking up the Melbourne derby this week....
