How does it not solve his stated claim if they occupy the country and install a puppet regime like they have in Belarus?

I'm not agreeing with any of it but that is his rationale and, I hate to say it, he does have a point.

None of this justifies an invasion but this isn't some random event.

The thing is, no puppet regime will be supported on the ground or internationally. Russia simply doesn't have the money or firepower to maintain it.

Same delusion that afflicted Americans with regards to Covid is happening in Russia with regards to Ukraine.

Fake news!!!

The aim I meant was creating a buffer and/or halting NATO expansion.

This will only hasten NATO expansion and move the buffer.

If even SWEDEN is getting in on increased military spending, sending Ukraine anti tank missiles and just in general taking a side then you know you have miscalculated.

Here's an interesting article.  https://www.news.com.au/world/europe/russian-troops-say-theyre-desperate-to-quit-war-in-ukraine-on-calls-with-loved-ones/news-story/6aece923ef7351a6c505ebbc529e0aea

He also claimed the Ukrainian government handing out tens of thousands of guns to its people had hampered the invasion led by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Everyone here has an assault rifle. Everyone,” the soldier said.

The Russian propaganda machine in full force. Would be interesting to see if more images get out into Russia. Apparently Anonymous have hacked Russian Government sites and are streaming war footage on it.

The Russian soldiers have no interest to fight in this war. Apparently many weren't even sure they got sent in there in the first place. Ukraine on the other hand is fighting for its literal existence. Complete opposite in terms of will power to fight. Russia will need to commit hundreds of thousands to hold Ukraine as well. Even if they take Kyiv and other major cities, you can see insurgencies arising.

A Russian colleague (been here two years)  who has never said anything political or against Putin is totally dismayed. Almost to the point of being distraught at work. In his opinion Putin is a mad man trying to bring back USSR. He said the problem is nobody gets any truth in Russia.

Also spoke to friends in Ukraine last night. They just left ipina where very heavy fighting.

They said everyone is surprised by how poor the Russian equipment is. They said they thought they had bad equipment but the Russian stuff was bad. The problem is there is a lot of money and soldiers for them to sacrifice.

I was sent some videos that are heartbreaking. Russian soldiers basically kids themselves that have been sacrificed by Putin and laying across a freeway in pierces. Cannon fodder. The Ukrainian people are victims but also some of these soldiers from the backwoods of Siberia don’t know what the hell is going on.

Utterly pointless. On a positive note the Ukrainians are very heartened by all the support they are receiving. But they do not expect this to be over soon.

I think they and smart Russians are hoping for Putin to meet his demise from the inner circle.

I'm on twitter a bit scouring for videos of what's going on. Found a couple of accounts where they are posting up captured soldiers. The majority are saying as far as they knew they were on exercises or coming to help Ukraine. Of course take that with a grain of salt because you'd say anything with a gun to your head but quiet a few of them seem just glad to be inside and out of danger. (So many young kids.)

This account has lots: https://www.instagram.com/brunoitan/?hl=en. But brazilian journo reposting.
The videos that I have been sent are obviously not allowed on socials and tbh I have stop getting or looking as it's just too much mentally

The bad bit is if you are a villager or soldier in remote unit you really have not much option but to kill anyone you catch. Do you let them go back to their unit so they get you later? You cant really take prisoners - where do you keep them? Very risky

I think its corruption within Russia. Everyone skimming a bit when it comes to supplies so the end result is junk.

US contemplating sending fighter jets into Ukraine. Fucking insane if you ask me. Russia might have old beat ups tanks but their nukes could kill a billion people. War with NATO = BAD BAD BAD! These cold communist warmongers are dying to push the button, it would be a mistake to think that they wouldnt utilise every single weapon at their disposal to achieve victory, including lobbing nukes into NATO. Simple solution is to give Russia Donbas, Crimea, reject Ukraine from NATO, short term defeat can be offset by long term squeezing of their economy and further denuclearisation or at least exponential investment in missile defence. MAD doctrine has failed.

Stronger rhetoric
Implied nuclear threats
Not broadcasting to the world that you wont put troops and resources in Ukraine
Harsher sanctions
Station troops and weapons in Ukraine
Nuclear tests in the Pacific
Withdraw from Nato negotiations with Ukraine
Drop bombs on Moscow
Assasinate Putin
Do nothing - being Republican is probably enough, as opposed to your typical peahearted paper tiger Democrat who is more concerned with changing gender norms and defunding police.

At the end of the day none of this matters. Biden sat by and watched while Putin took Ukraine without conceding a scratch, and history will forever remember it this way. For you to claim that “nothing else could be done” is precisely the kind of weakness of heart and character that tyrants love to prey on.  Now that US has been outed as lacking strength and resolve watch China waltz in and take Taiwan under the implied threat of nuclear holocaust.

Thought I'd bump this to show how full of shit you are Rusty.

Literally 2 weeks ago you were saying Biden needed to use stronger actions are now you are criticising the US regarding the fighter jet thing.

Stronger actions BEFORE letting Russia waltz into Ukraine, in order to DETER them from invading Ukraine. Sending in troops, jets now can no longer achieve deterrence and will only escalate conflict.

Because Russia has about 1,500 nuclear warheads it might be prepared to use to get its way, or at least prevent the West from getting its way. Regardless of the ethics and morality of its actions they have significant bargaining power, and if we want peace then the West (and Ukraine) is going to need to make some concessions.

Clown. Russia is going to lay waste to the Ukraine with nuclear weapons are they? And the radioactive fallout is just magically going to stay over the Ukraine and not poison millions of Russians and citizens of neighbouring countries.

Will never happen.

Bio-labs in Ukraine was a conspiracy theory 1 week ago, but now there is very real concern by US Gov that the Ruski's will capture these "research facilities"....

American News Mar 9, 2022 9:05 AM          EST

BREAKING: Biden official says US working with Ukraine to prevent bio research facilities from falling into Russian hands

"Ukraine has biological research facilities, which in fact we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of."

On Tuesday, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland told the Senate that the US is working with Ukraine to protect biological research labs as Russia continues its attacks on the Eastern European nation.

"Ukraine has biological research facilities, which in fact we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of, so we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach," Nuland told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a hearing.

The response came in regards to a question from Senator Marco Rubio, who asked: "Does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?"
