Quite happy to go with the old rules enforced

Exactly. I also forgot. Players were able to tap the ball when given a penalty. Just let them do that instead of this six again rubbish.

Correct.
That's the issue i have with Barrett.
On paper and based on our recruitment drive, we should have improved more than these teams.
The fact that some aspects of our game has gone backwards indicates that whatever Barrett had in mind, is just not working.
We are into round 8 now and we cannot continue to flog the dead horse.
He either has to dump that plan and simply play like we did last year but obviously better players or we need to punt him and get someone else to move this club forward.

100%.
If we are looking for opposition players to be suspended or out injured in order to give ourselves a chance, we arent beating them. We are just hoping they lose to us.

Time to change things around and put the emphasis on US being better and winning games on our own control.
In fact we should even account for a ref error either costing us a try or gifting the opposition a try and still win.

In other words, stop trying to score 3 trys and start thinking we need 6

They are trying to score.

The process of turning the side around takes more than a few new recruits.

Everyone has to lift their game, and the coach needs better options when players can't improve.

But avoiding the spoon is mainly down to the players and after that the coaches.
We are playing the price for our own errors in attack and defence. Players can find the culprit by looking in the mirror and they are honest enough to admit that.

What is harder is playing as a team, having confidence in each other, and working together.

All of this is very hard after a sequence of losses and much easier after a few wins.
But if you want an easy life, don't be an NRL player, if you are a player, look in the mirror and try to improve.

I would play Cook or Topine this week instead of BBO.

That should ensure MOM for BBO, especially if he gets more than 7 minutes.

Des also used to throw the bench hooker on for the last 7, that is keeping an interchange up their sleeve in case of injury.

The injury to Tommo perhaps a factor. But when the game is slipping away, roll the dice before it is too late.
Even if we finish with 12 fit players on the field.

So far, Tommo is in, so hopefully not injured.

We are trying to do exactly that. We are trying to outscore our opposition every game. Unfortunately with the shit passes from dummy half, followed by shit passes from our first receiver our halves are getting the ball with no room to move and our ability to score points is reduced.

Once we have a decent hooker and first receiver we might start scoring plenty of points. But with the quality we have we are not going to score many points with Bazs game plan.

This is why I have always said we should focus on defence. Once we let no team score on us our offence becomes so much easier.

I've never met a player who didn't like scoring tries, seen a team try only tries to score less than 20.

Our defense is the biggest reason why we are not scoring more.

After every tty they score, we kick off and IMO that is one season why blowouts occur.

If the team  that just scored kicked off, games might be closer.

Bigger bench and more interchange also closer. A team with 2 injuries a 2 man bench, and 30% of posession typically concedes a big score.

I am in favour of a faster game, more action and room to attack. Not a fan of to blow out scores.

So do I, or more accurately a better contest between attack and defence.

But I also want to see Footy, not Wresting.

Attacking players should get a chance to move the ball and show their skill. The game should be fast but fair.

I can see what the NRL are trying to do, but we get frequent matches where one side doesn't touch the ball for 20 mins and concedes multiple 6 agains, penalties and line drop outs.

One issue is that the better sides rarely drop the ball often make good yards and put in a good kick.

A team that is gased from defending multiple sets should get a bit more leniency in the ruck and the 10. In other words don't keep kicking a side when it is down, that kills off the contest.

hd you see we all see it unfortunately the NRLol don't see it. This is why I want the 6 again set restart removed and a time limit set to clear the ruck after held is called 3 seconds should be more than sufficient. The referees also have to be more precise in calliing held rather than letting a tackle take an eternity to complete.

The time to clear the ruck is inhabited by the wrestle. Every rule change comes with a downside. 5 metres with immediate release is the way to go.

in the era of the 5 metre rule kicking off after the opponent scored was an advantage.

Even if they keep 10 metres, immediate release, they player has to stand, square and still with no hands on him, then play the ball. After the ref calls held players should release. Cut the wrestle, but make players play the ball properly.

Absolutely agree... the most logical approach. So the NRL will go with 2 minutes of wrestling and the refs interpretation of held  and momentum and apply a 15 metre rule

Re the bunker doctor. Apparently  he is there because of concerns that the club doctor may not be able to act independently. Surely it's  not competence/training concerns.

I do think questions must be asked. Fifth season since Des, two coaches, nearly 100 games, many players purchased, past our salary cap constraints and running  last again. Very hard to argue we are not under performing.
About time the situation was addressed by the board and what they see as acceptable performance and any action they propose and communicated  to us supporters. This can't  go on.

Gus on Twitter seems happy about us signing some dude from Fiji.

By round 10 I'll decide my opinion on Baz.

Beyond that Gus is making the calls and this is his first season on deck.
The board can leave football matters to the football department, for now.

I'll make the call on on Gus at the end of 2024, but if Gus hasn't fixed our problems, we may as well quit footy and join a netball comp.

People at board level making calls on football matters is part of how we got in this mess.
The other part is looking for quick fixes and not building a strong base.

My understanding of what Gus is trying to do is exactly what I would do.

And nervous nelly fans thinking sacking the board every season is a receipe for success, is another problem.

After Bullfrog we had what I call "organ grinder syndrome", only the monkeys were left.

The current board and management seem better than any we have had since about 1995.

Between 1996 and 2017 we had very poor management IMO and the results speak for themselves.
Thinking that there is a quick fix from that kind of mess is optimistic.

We are doing a knockdown rebuild and the 1980s design isn't right for the current era.
Get the foundations right before we start complaining about the interior decorating.

The foundations are juniors, scouting, player development, player retention, strong competitive teams in every grade.

I am disappointed about some aspects of this season so far? yes, but that doesn't change the big picture.

The point im making is we're  moving at the speed of a thousand snails. I hope and expect it will get better. Can't  get worse than last. I just expected a little  more incremental  improvement.
As for the board they make the most fundamental  decisions such as coach selection. A bit more oversight by the board and we wouldn't  have been in the salary cap predicament  we we were.
