Harry Souttar literally said in an interview in 2017: "my ambition is to play for Scotland." He was the same age as Volpato. Graham Arnold this week said he's a future Socceroos captain. Why do you hate Cristian Volpato, an 18 year old kid who you've never met, so much?  

Souttar didn’t mock the country or try and blackmail his way into the squad.

Good analogy, though Souttar was born and bred in Scotland so this is quite understandable whereas Volpato was born and bred in Australia. 

Hibs fans on Twitter unanimous in their praise of Lewis Miller. He played the first half and was supposedly busy in both attack and defence. 

Fair enough. But we celebrate the fact that Souttar (supposedly) dreamed of playing for Australia as a kid and chose us over his nation of birth and development and yet we refuse to even allow ourselves to understand why Volpato has made his choices. 

Because our NT is decidedly mediocre and he’s just a teenager who did something stupid/offensive. Big deal. Who doesn’t/hasn’t?

There’s a chance to get him now (especially as Italy haven’t qualified). And he could enhance our NT a great deal.

Personally, I’d prefer that outcome to losing him to Italy and heaps of us disliking the bloke over something incredibly petty. Shelve your pride.

So we could hopefully have Genreau, Hrustic, Mabil, Ryan playing regularly in top leagues. Souttar will definitely be in the premiership next year as long as his recovery goes well.

Plus some really promising players in Mcgree, Rowles, Miller, Metcalfe who are gonna be starting in promising leagues in Europe and hopefully being able to take a step up in the future.

Things are looking pretty good for the future all things considered. Hopefully we can do some damage this World Cup.

You must have missed the part where I pointed out that he’s young and everybody makes mistakes. That overrides your unsubstantiated and hysterical accusation of “blackmail” and “ransom”.

In keeping with the advice of his club side (you know… the ones who pay his wages), he basically says - not travelling halfway across the world to play for the youth side, only the NT (whose members are mostly playing at a lower level than Volpato, anyway).

There’s no point in punishing a mistake that a person makes (or may have made) as a teenager in a way that will continue to hurt them their entire career. And from the perspective of the NT, it would cutting off their nose to spite their face. Really smart! An absolutely pointless tantrum which points to an attitude that just would just ensure that we continue to have a mediocre NT.

Bouzanis would be shortlisted if he became a regular starter at least. Lots of good young keepers coming through who also need squad exposure.

He’s got to earn his cap, not get capped because some guy in the media told them to and then going to play for someone else.

I don’t care that he’s young, he should’ve known better and 99% of people wouldn’t have done something stupid like that.

Also if you think that Volpato who has just played 3 senior games in his life will somehow transform our national team, then I have a Bridge to sell you.

I don't have a strong opinion on Volpato, but you have a truly colossal level of faith in the maturity of teenagers. 

Who is saying Volpato would ‘transform’ the NT?? He is just another potential addition to the Roos attack that definitely has talent after scoring for Italy U19’s several times and senior Roma side.  

Let's not get our hopes up... There has been plenty of players like him who have performed well for underages and had a couple good senior games to only end up playing for Bath City

Don’t bother engaging with S007. He has an irrational hatred and jealousy for Volpato. 

For what its worth, he apparently has a very poor attitude which is why he was cut by SFC and WSW (Not his ability). The reaction on his social media does add credence to this alongside the fact he declared for Italy when speaking to Optus.

Personally i think he will go the way of Piscopo (who was playing youth football for AC Milan and for Italy underage teams and declared for them early too then sort of faded). The reality is he hasnt played enough games for anyone (including himself) to judge his ability as a senior player. So declaring for a country at this early stage of his career is just stupid, let alone mocking Australia when it struggled against Japan. Was it immature? absolutely, but being young and immature isnt a get out of gaol free card either. He now has painted himself into a corner where no matter what happens if he ends up playing for the socceroos it will be clear we were a second choice.

It was why he was cut by WSW, not by SFC. That was due to his height or lack thereof. Piscopo didn't represent Italy past U17 level and by the time he was 19 (a year older than Volpato) he was only just making his senior debut in Serie C. Mocking Australia? He sent a snap with two emojis to his snapchat story comprising his close friends which was leaked by someone on Twitter. How was he to know that his private snapchat, which he subsequently deleted, would be sent to the media?  

kids make mistakes. If he plays for us, great, if not good luck to him
