So why didn't they pick overseas players like Fowler and Cooney Cross for the U20 WC team? Its a Fifa world cup. Not a development tournament. Surely those players would have been keen. WSL doesn't start till mid Sep. You look at most of the stars at the womens euros. Russco, Hemp, Kelly, Stanway etc. They all went to past U20 world cups. What's up with the Australian players. Surely the players would be keen, Its a prestigious tournament with lots of eyes on it.

They are all in preseason and supposably won’t be released. but if you look at other countries rosters….
wben you have to start bringing 2006 born players, clearly development issues

Germany moaning about England handball. Once German TV slowdd it down and played it back and forth the ball has actually landed between her deltoid and breast and bounced along the arm and fist (not touching).
I'm amazed no one has raised this and the German coach was shown once quickly post game. German TV shot themselves in the foot with the back and forth replays. The white kit and ball made it hard spot but it's landed exactly where I described. German press conveniently showing the rear view only.

Still don't get it. Can't see the clubs having too much issue releasing fringe players for 2 or 3 weeks to play at an international tournament. As for development of players for 2027. This is one of the first world cups an age group team has qualified for in an ages. Surely its worth taking more seriously than that. There is no time like now for these players. Next there won't be any coverage of the games in Aus on TV so young girls won't have anything to aspire to.

Aus win 2-0, saves ka with the first, stanic floody with the second goal.
tbh though, we should be destroying these teams in this age group (Myanmar, Malaysia, Phillipines, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, vietnam) none Of the powerhouses like North Korea, South Korea, Japan or China in this tournament.
quite a few players missing though due to u20 WC and other commitments, Galic, dos santos, apotolakis, Lincoln, murphy, Karic. A few other players about that are very good also.

Some big girls in that side. Time to bring back the skin fold tests. Unless of course they don't want the coach sacked.

What a great result to the U20 young Matilda's. To beat the host country after going behind to a pretty spectacular goal showed great nerve and composure.

+x+xAnyone know where to watch the other games? Fifa+ doesn’t seem to work. Same problem here in UK No rights sold but FIFA+ nothing Our games plus the semis and final are on SBS and SBSOnDemand. Checked out the results from the first round of the U20 Womens World Cup. We top Group A, South Korea top Group C wit ha 3 nil win against Canada and Japan are equal top Group D after a 1 nil win over the Netherlands. Would this be the first World Cup where all Asian teams have won their first round match? Our next match is 6.00am Sunday.

I’ll be amazed if we get through to the next stage based on yesterdays performance. spain are a top level program in junior womens football and Brazil are an emerging powerhouse. blayney easily the worst coach in the Australian system, how she has gotten this far with her record still astounds me, I like dower for u17 junior women and believe she should do both just as Morgan on the boys side has done both.

I have watched both U20 WC games.Against Costa Rica the girls went down to a stupendous free kick and did play some decent football after that though still gave up possession too easily. However they scored the necessary goals without looking incisive. The Costa Ricans also were hardly threatening to our goal.
A thunderstorm interrupted the Brazil game after about twenty five minutes but only delayed the inevitable. We were under pressure most of the time and only poor finishing by the Brazilians and some good goalkeeping stopped a bigger scoreline. Our defenders worked hard but the midfield was overrun.A couple of our players looked overweight, particularly Gallagher, which surprised me as they are supposedly elite sports women.

Yes there are some tubby girls amongst them. Amazing, as you say, as they're 'elite' athletes. That's the problem with sacking a coach who asked tough questions.
