The difference is that from all accounts many of the AAFC clubs while supportive of a NSD do not have the money. Any issues that take away potential sponsorship from the NSD will put the whole concept in danger. I have heard that only 6 clubs are 'financial enough' AND want to commit to a NSD. (this number may be wrong but it is what I have heard). Those clubs were probably banking on a substantial increase in sponsorship dollars - does that now happen?

Then you have the FA and what they think. Watching JJ through the game he looked very chastened. What choices does he have now?

If there are only a few clubs ready and willing for a NSD and we need more youth playing at a higher level what are the alternatives.

TBH I wanted a NSD and a reserve league. Now I can only see a reserve league and a few spots for AAFC clubs in ALM expansion (Firsts and Reserves). This also means the ALM will run it so 'football results' which should have been a prime consideration in the NSD will now be below geographic spread issues.

Lets break this done some.....
How could any NSD Club have any money up front until when/IF the new comp is confirmed going ahead.
Be it a business or Club no entity can lock in any sponsership funding until all know formally whats ahead so thats moot.
Myself as a business owner and say a potential sponser wouldn't commit to anything until you have concrete facts moving forward.
The Final behaviour wouldn't change my mind - for eg NRL AFL have had heaps of questionable behaviour haven't they, sponsers have gone and others take their place.

As for JJ, surely of the big picture you wouldn't change your course of plan over what occurred.
In fact it would have been a good insight.
I'd expect he would make sure whats included in the pending NSD Club contracts is crowd control directives and actions in countering that type of behaviour incl massive fines etcetc......

Anything else is peer pressure cop out.
If anything but the NSD doesn't go ahead its fail.

What most people didn't want in a NSD was ALM youth teams. These actions almost  certainly mean the current concept of a NSD is now dead in the water. That is not fault of the FA or the AAFC. I do blame the club and Football NSW as well as many in the media (with connections with the club) claiming they didn't know what goes on at the club.

TBH I suspect the ALM will now look at their own expansion AND an introduction of a Reserve league (mostly youth) run as part of the ALM. Put simply - a NSD will not happen now unless there is real and meaningful change at SU58 and other clubs that what to act similarly. Yes it was foreseeable  (wasn't the lawnmower blades incident this season as well)

I will not discount existing NPL clubs being part of the expansion at all - in fact I would welcome it. But while there were few that could afford to play in a NSD there will be less in an expanded ALM (especially if they have to fly around reserve teams as well).

That is throwing the baby out with the bathwater mate. NSD will still go ahead but there will be stricter restrictions placed on clubs regarding this sort of stuff. It also will likely mean new teams/bids will be more closely considered.

They wont take away a development stream for the whole country just because of one teams actions

On that same tweet, there's an image of the clubs involved in the meeting.  Now that might be quite accurate because I think these are the original AAFC clubs that put their names to a report from 5 years ago, but it might be pretty close to the mark:

It's a screen shot from the Feb 2022 NSD proposal by the AAFC

They are the clubs putting in to the development of the Proposal.

NOT necessarily  the clubs who want to or will end up applying for the NSD model and criteria that FA decide on.

From that thread.

The clubs are grateful to FA for its diligence and commitment, as well as its recognition of the work done by AAFC in informing the key elements of this key new national competition.

We are mindful, however, that ‘the perfect is the enemy of the good’.

The phrase perfect is the enemy of good is often used to describe how people can get caught up in making things perfect and — as a result — never get anything done.

Its most appropiate.

In saying that at least its quoted Home and Away comp.

It is very apparent that they are trying to get alot closer to 2034 because of contractual clauses in place.
Constant delays  letting things slide, not getting the NSD over the line. After the EOI's, why does everyone wait till 2024?

It looks like progress, FFA is happy for everyone to think progress is being made, but the reality is that progress is minimal, which suits the FFA, and in particular, it suits their most important constituents.

Put it this way, the original article was written by Michael Cockerill 5 years ago (yes - that Michael Cockerill!).

After much bluster, committee meetings, focus groups, conversations, etc - they are looking at a 2024 start, but with very little having been worked out in terms of details, meaning that 2024 start is every bit as fluid as the original 20-21 start was back in the day.

Reading between the lines, it's clear that the AAFC and the FFA have not been on the same page for 5 years now, although it looks like they are as close to a meeting of minds as they have ever been (but that's not necessarily saying a lot either).

Also, whenever anyone with anyone clout starts saying stuff like:  "let's make sure all the A-League clubs are financially viable first", well, it doesn't take a lot to work out that that's a formula for pushing out all major structural changes indefinitely, because in truth, it's almost impossible to reach a situation where 100% of your clubs are financially viable (it has never been reached in the NRL and AFL, so why would any other national league be any different?) - that position will clearly not be reached within this broadcast deal, and let's be honest, the next deal will be no better.

Let us all hope that 2024 is indeed the start date...but don't hold your breath either.
