I always wonder how this kind of betting market is allowed. The players all find out ahead of the public announcement, and when you’ve got 26 people who share the good news with their friends and family, who then may confidentially share the news with their own network… It’s a licence to print money by betting on a guaranteed result that would be very hard to prove was insider trading.

Good point. Can you ask Maty to ask Mitch if he's in? :D You're so right how dodgy this can all be. It says $100 max but not sure per bet. That Langerak price is ridiculous.

Wright over Deng or Degenek would not make sense. Sainsbury unfortunately a lock under arnold, souttar + Rowles easy picks.

Let's hope Souttar can get some mins this weekend for Stoke's first team and potentially too Rowles for Hearts. That happens, I'll start to feel a bit better about things.

I think Davidson will get in. I think Farrell has nudged his way to 3rd ranked on fitness and form and may be a shock inclusion.

Getting close and very tight now.
The 4 centre backs are surely set. Take a 5th in Wright or Degenek. It going to be heartbreaking for someone.
We can't take all 4 strikers so someone has to miss out. I think Duke is locked and Cummings is pretty damn close. Taggart wasn't in the club squad so he may just be on the outer. We know the Maclaren caper so I just wonder if we should even bother.
Wings/Youth. Leckie is going. Goodwin is in a decent position. We can't take all 3 of Kuol, Tilio and Arzani. I'd like to have the luxury of being able to bring on as many good ball players as possible later in games. Strain and Atkinson have been playing wingback and winger so there's a bit of versatility there that could solve a few headaches.
McGree is in but if he only gets around 25min in total it's a waste. I think Devlin is in but also Baccus is making a strong, energetic claim. Dougall is great at club level but doesn't seem to work in Arnie's system. Dougall is very versatile so I think including him would offer a safety net. Stensness has made 5 appearances this October. Watch Arnold bring him in. I really hope not but I fear there'll be some real shockers.

I feel like we have a squad full of ‘squaddies’. Lots of decent players who would all do a decent job vying for positions but rarely a truly clear-cut outstanding option for any position.
E.g. At RB any of Karacic, Atkinson and Strain could make a case to be starting, and I’d honestly be fine with any of the 3 starting at RB, but none of the 3 options are truly that much better than the other two guys.

Me too re RB but, to be fair to Karacic - we don't see much of him at club level. That said, his last two NT outings have been underwhelming to say the most. I'd be increasingly inclined towards Strain. He's much more solid defensively than the other two and also has some decent forward passing in his locker. Irankunda is no chance. Good player, but too many ahead of him.

Should drop Taggart n Tilio I’m not a big fan of Tilio but he was in Peru playoff squad, NZ squad (completely fucked up a tap in goal mind you) and has scored twice in 2 games. Will be surprised if he doesn’t make squad. What’s the main reason u would leave him out?

I’m going deep in the frontline, 8 of the 26. RW Boyle*-Leckie* W Kuol-Irankunda LW Mabil-Goodwin S Duke-Cummings *third striker option if required Reserve W Tilio S Maclaren Irankunda cut for Maclaren, ok fair enough but I wouldn’t. Lock in socceroo minimum

Try outs are done. My squad yet I know Arnold will go differently. I enjoy Irankunda being mentioned.
Ryan Langerak Redmayne
Strain Atkinson Rowles Sainsbury Souttar Deng Wright Behich
- I get Karacic also offers value. A 5th CB is needed in case Rowles or Souttar fail a late fitness test. Let's face it, Behich will start every game and I'd rather take the risk of putting Goodwin or even Strain there in order to fill up space in the squad. I see I contradict myself there with Strain, Atkinson, Deng, Wright and Leckie all being able to fill in at right back.
Mooy Irvine Hrustic McGree Devlin Metcalfe Rogic
- I don't see how Arnold could put faith in someone like Baccus to start compared to Rogic. Rogic is in due the more starting potential. Rogic's best games have often come after a spell. Hrustic and McGree have the versatility that it's a headache how to use them. Dougall just isn't part of Arnold's thinking unfortunately.
Boyle Leckie Kuol Cummings Taggart Mabil Goodwin Arzani
Taggart is proven at international level and doesn't need much to finish a chance. Away goal vs Jordan. Created the goals vs China and had part in the Oman one. Linked up well and hit post vs Japan away and that was his last competitive game. I think the annoyance comes from his injury withdrawals. Maclaren has been tried and tested. The year is 2022 and Duke is leading our line. Great guy but no thanks. Arzani can beat the man. Leckie is on massively borrowed time.

No JMac is big call! Duke has always given his all but 2nd division striker at a WCup is just insane. Would love to see Arzani in Qatar but don’t think he’s done quite enough sadly. But As long as Kuol and Cummings get some minutes there is way more hope of open play goal/s

His dicision making is poor and as a winger he just didn't have that individual skills to beat the defender. When Nabout come back fully fit he will sit on the bench.

Ahh Maclaren, how I dream he does start in a WC game and scores. One can dream. Can't argue with Duke's passion but I just thing Cummings and Taggart and the ones with the better chance of putting one away if at all.

The link up play with Boyle is certainly a positive thing. Tuesday is going to be a heartbreaker for some but I'm glad we've got about 35 names we can generally be content with. I'm mad that we still don't have a core system. Still very little idea what Hrustic and McGree are supposed to be. At least the defence seems to have their nucleus.
