+xJoe King sitting on the bench in Denmark in relegated team. If Arnie pick him over Davidson should set a bad standard to the rest of the players. Australia media saying his strength is the defence but OB fans think his weakness is his defence. I don't like Davidson - plays well as a CB in a 3 man CB formation (which is how he is playing now but not what we will play in Qatar) or a LM. As a main cover for CB no, as a LB no. That said - he should definitely be in front of King.

Not surprised really if true. These rumours have been right and wrong so we'll wait and see. Vukovic committed a lot to the qualifiers. I've found him a little sluggish lately.

Any idea if squad announcement press conference at 4pm is being televised, and if so, on what channel?

This is shocking. Seems like a crazy decision especially with Ryan now under an injury cloud. Even of he wasn't, Langerak is the only Aus keeper playing overseas and our most in form keeper. Why coax him out of retirement and then not play him at all on NZ games or take him to WC!!! Min boggling. Unless there is more to it, Langerak must be furious.

What the shit? He is clearly in our top 3 gks.
What a truly terrible decision that just reeks of picking one's mates.

Actually understand Arnie's position if it's true, Arnie's style of play has a preference for sweeper keepers, that being said I'd still take Langer's if I was in his position, I'd just take another sweeper keepers as the third string.

Would be shocked and very disappointed if true. The only keeper capable of putting pressure on Ryan and IMNSHO the best Aus keeper for the last decade.
Has to be some issue we're unlikely to hear about... sigh.
I'll be even more pissed off if he doesn't take Cummings and Kuol.

His return was welcome but maybe things were said about not actually playing and they fell out. Vukovic committed a lot in the qualifiers and kind of gets a retirement gift of a WC. John Crawley has a good relationship with 3 ex Mariners keepers.

My last attempt on who I think is getting picked:
GKs: Ryan, Redmayne, Vukovic
DFs: Sainsbury, Degenek, Souttar, Wright, Deng, Behich, King, Karacic, Atkinson
MFs: Mooy, Genreau, Irvine, McGree, Hrustic, Rogic
FWs: Maclaren, Duke, Taggart, Leckie, Mabil, Boyle, Goodwin, Kuol
My changes would be:
Langerak and Gauci for Redmayne and Vuka. Rowles for Sainsbury and Gersbach for King. Devlin for Genreau and Volpato for Rogic. Cummings for Taggart.

Appalling call, if that's the case. If/when a few (likely 50/50) goals go past Ryan, there'll be the usual criticism of the Langerak omission when a more capable shot-stopper is needed.

Still, this is beside the fact that he clearly has a hand in just picking his mates in the side. There's no justification for picking both Redmayne and Vukovic over Langerak (if this rumour is correct).

Taggart overlooked, no Langerak and Volpato has rejected a last minute call up.
All according to Peacock.

I think it's fair to say that Langerak might well have been our first choice keeper by now under a different coach. I don't like the way Arnold manages his teams on a number of levels, but the way he is indulges his favouritism for certain players, particularly those he has known since his CCM time, is perhaps the most egregious.

The Langerak decision is justice. The dude rejected his country when we needed all the help we could get during the most intense WCQ ever, and watched as actual dedicated Socceroos pushed through for their country. After all the hard work was done, this pea heart says “Ooh I’m ready to come out of retirement now as I’d really like to play at the World Cup! 😃” Fuck off with that shit. As a multi millionaire professional athlete, his excuses for retirement were poor when the rest of the squad, including other Japan-based players, were prepared to do what it takes for their country.
I am so stoked that we haven’t been so weak to allow the national team shirt to be tarnished by letting people like Langerak pick and choose when they’d like to play for the national team. I’ve said previously that I’d enjoy a similar stance on JMac & Leckie, but they only turned down a couple of games, whereas Langerak turned down an entire WCQ cycle.
Langerak made his bed. He only has himself to blame.

As much as its disappointing to all of us something is amiss there has to be alot more to it, maybe we find out more upon the squad is announced who knows. edit - some very good points Bowden you do make sense of the big picture, I guess most of us look at it by ability wise more than anything else. I'm actually happy for Vuka, always been a fan of his style of keeping more than Redmayne for what its worth. I'd be playing Vuka ahead of Redders.

Langerak made his bed. He only has himself to blame. Probably the reason why he retired was because no matter what he did Arnold is always going to play his mate Ryan, he could be playing for Man City and Arnold would still play Ryan. I would assume the reason why Langerak retired is because he got the sense, he was behind Arnolds other mate Redmayne as even a second choice. It's evident to me that the only reason why Arnold is picking Vukovic is so his bum chum CCM can get the 10'000 compensation FIFA give are giving to clubs per day, same goes with Cummings as there is zero point to him being there.

I read an article quoting Ron Corry saying that he was as good as Bosnich, Schwarzer and Kalac. He chose to go the South American route and got caught behind the Chilean national keeper - much like Kalac behind the Brazilian keeper at AC Milan.

The irony is if he didnt retire, he likely would have actually played a game or two at this world cup. This is the most shaky Ryans position has been since hes been first choice for us. But lets be honest, he retired because he didn't think we would qualify and didnt want to bother going through RATs and quarantines
