Some perspective though even the greatest right back we ever had would have struggled against Mbappe yesterday & even with our greatest 11 we would not have beaten France yesterday. The Socceroos after the first 25-30 mins were very poor, there was no fight, there was no pressure, there was no wise tactical coaching. It was just pathetic, this is what upset us all. Arnold totally out of his depth. Watching some of the other 'minnows', really does show our first touch & technical ability is still so poor. Watching the Japanese 2nd goal, that 1st touch over his head to set up the scoring chance, most Aussies cannot do this. Im not trying to be smart to you for a change but do you now understand my point about not wanting to be embarrassed again? Like Decentric says that was an awesome performance by France, they are a joy to watch. My point to you has been that we've always deficient bar Harry, Dukes & maybe a couple more Mooy, Bresc on our first touch for as long as I can remember. Ninko has a better first touch then most of our GG players. I've seen improvements but we need to be better. I don't think our view on football itself differs that much, just in our view of the administration of it. My belief is after 40 years of watching the game in this country, I would say only Dukes & Harry's first touch was world class, this is a deficiency in our coaching for a very long time, not just the 18 years of the A-league. I agree with you about pretty much everything above... My point though is this: Wasn't the whole point of the "Frank Lowy New Dawn FFA Pty Ltd" to fix all this? To bring a new found professionalism and therefore money into the game? To get rid of the perception that soccer is for "sheilas wogs and pooftas"? to make our youth development the best in the region and to have us play in a so called "stronger" confederation so that we as a nation improve our standings in the world? None of this has happened in my view. Yes Aleague gets better crowds than the NSL, yes more Australians feel "acccepted" by the franchises (fuck the rest of us btw, we don't count as humans in this country I guess) and yes we have now qualified for the WC a few times .......... but what else? Is this all we should settle for? Its costs 15 times more for our youth to play now than during the NSL. our best players are benchies in second tier leagues overseas and we routinely get spanked at major tournaments.... Don't you think its time we ALL looked at what could be done better? How we can ALL progress for the betterment of OUR country? I don't see the improvement you see with player's first touch. He then bailed on his players on the eve of the World Cup because he saw the writing on the wall after the Confeds Cup. I'll give him the Asian Cup at home where a semi-final was the minimum pass mark. As for France they have never had development issues of the magnitude we have. In 2010 it was Germany's development we compared ours to Then Belgium's. Now France. Its ridiculous.

It was the same ol same ol to me as well, nice open fast play football but lacking the finish and being exposed at the back and punished. No Enzo I'm saying nothing of comparing with France of today but his points made re developing/listenning and looking to improve our systems fell on deaf ears back in 18 as it has pre and to date - fuck the others we got to worry about ourselves, our own DNA and styles for its gone MIA and players needing standards that are needed now and ahead for we're behind whilst others keep investing and investing. If you can't see that and think its never gonna be go watch more afl.

When you say investment, I'm assuming you mean more money. Where will this money come from? Government? They will ask: "How much do money do you have now, why do you need more from us and if we give to you, how will you spend it and why should we care?

My belief is after 40 years of watching the game in this country, I would say only Dukes & Harry's first touch was world class, this is a deficiency in our coaching for a very long time, not just the 18 years of the A-league. To bring a new found professionalism and therefore money into the game? To get rid of the perception that soccer is for "sheilas wogs and pooftas"? to make our youth development the best in the region and to have us play in a so called "stronger" confederation so that we as a nation improve our standings in the world? None of this has happened in my view. Yes Aleague gets better crowds than the NSL, yes more Australians feel "acccepted" by the franchises (fuck the rest of us btw, we don't count as humans in this country I guess) and yes we have now qualified for the WC a few times .......... but what else? The league funding imploded due to the GFC. The owners saw a huge reduction in their income through the gate and from sponsors and the FFA also found that it couldn't keep its commitments to the clubs and to growing the game without significant "Special Assistance" grants from the Government that were much greater in total than the spend on the WC bid.

Hope I don't regret asking a few people to come watch the game tomorrow night.
A World Cup match at 8:30pm on a Saturday seemed like it needed to be an event.
The group includes people who are not football fans but are good friends.
Generally I like to watch in peace or with select people as I get so stressed aha
I have warned friends there will be no talking near the tele, no asking questions about rules or why Australia isn't very good and no jokes about soccer players falling over

You HAD mainstream support, you HAD minimal crowd issues, you HAD 4 points at WC once upon a time...... c'mon man.... seriously? The price of such mediocre "success" doesn't hurt you obviously but it does me.... If we where a top 3 qualifier in Asia every cycle (JAP-SKOR-SAUD), routinely qualified out of the groups stage and had even 3 or 4 stars in top 5 leagues .... I would still be bitter about Hellas being shafted but i could console myself at least with the fact that eh the price of progress is paid in blood and all that... Riddle me this: why did Glory, Adelaide, QLD and Newcastle get accepted but yours not? Um because Lowy was NOT about to pay for THE club that caused him so much embarrassment in the eyes of the Hakoa social club board and community in the 80s and instead funded Melbourne Victory in Melbourne??? Do you have another reason perhaps? Does it start with "bloody wogs" maybe? The presentation ... now that was another thing - but the decision was supposed to be primarily based on the bid book. We met the criteria, Qatar didn't.
