+xOur game was so intense compared to these last couple. Halfway through and I'm glad to say we've easily been the best or toughest losing side. USA came across as very casual. I've been watching bits and pieces of the recording and I'm amazed at certain duels that we're won by us or how we linked up with passing. Definitely areas for improvement but I'm impressed how we generally implemented what we wanted to do.

+x+x+x2:0 France. Szczesny is 196cm and is too short for a keeper. A taller one would've gotten to that. Is my thinking right? FFS even the first goal. If Ryan concedes that he should've moved further to the left, right? Fair point, and same can be said of the third. I think the forward doesn't get enough credit in football. centre forward/striker is he hardest position to play imo. have to be so positionaly aware and so often with back to goal plus markers in your face constantly

Suprised by Senegal to be honest. I thought they'd go toe-to-toe with England but it seems like they folded like a deck of cards after Henderson's first goal.

Watched that garbage Senegal put up just then. Advantages of topping your group I guess. England cruise through. We'll never know but I tend to think we would have beaten Senegal based on what I just saw. Is it just me or do England always seem to get an easy first up run? Things get a lot tougher for them now though. Mbappe is a one man wrecking machine. England will find them a lot tougher.

Senegal missing Mane was a big hit mentally but 1 player doesn't make the side. They were lucky being in a good group, they came 2nd Muz, yer I sure reckon we could take the points against them as they were. 3Lions imo will get done coming up, French rested alot of thier start up players, Walker is the only back that can match Mbappe close enough for pace, IF they shift over to Shaw's side he's toast once the ball played behind the backline, Dembele will eat them as well I expect and thats just the flanks.

So far the smallest losing margin in r16.
I have ambiguous heritage being prussian (which doesnt exist) so i have a soft spot for poland….until the selected grabara. Now pretty happy they are out and belted by france

Now pretty happy they are out and belted by france Pity the smallest margin doesn't do much in terms of getting us higher in the official standings at the end of the tournament. Based on my calculations, we are currently guaranteed to finish 14th (which will be tied with our highest ever campaign - 1974), with the highest possible ranking of 9th (if results go our way - the only nation that will finish ahead of us and already knocked out is Senegal, by virtue of having scored one more goal). If Croatia beats Japan 3-0, countback goes to disciplinary record. Any 3 goal loss that sees Japan score means they finish ahead of us. If Japan beat Croatia, we finish ahead of Croatia in all circumstances, except a penalty shootout (penalty shootouts count as a draw - an extra time loss does not count any different) If Korea beat Brazil 4-0, we finish ahead of Brazil. 5-1 loss goes to disciplinary record, any 4+ goal defeat of Brazil that sees Brazil score 2 goals will see Brazil finish ahead. If Brazil beat Korea in any circumstance, we finish ahead of Korea. If Spain beat Morocco under any circumstances, we cannot finish ahead of Morocco. If Morocco beat Spain under any circumstances, we will finish ahead of Spain. If Portugal beats Switzerland 3-0, countback goes to disciplinary record. Any 3 goal loss that sees Switzerland score means they finish ahead of us. If Switzerland beat Portugal 4-0, countback goes to disciplinary record. Any 4+ goal defeat of Portugal that sees Portugal score will see Portugal finish ahead. A penalty shootout will see the losing team finish ahead of us. By looking at that, I am guessing we will finish 13th overall - The only situation of those above I can see happening, is Brazil defeating Korea.

Ranking teams when they haven't played each other or the same teams is meaningless.

England definitely had their shooting boots on against Senegal. Their forwards were clinical around goal, winning 3 - 0, with Harry Kane scoring at last.
France too good for Poland beating them 3-1. Our 1 - 4 loss to France doesn't seem so bad now. Even in the last 16 France are imperious and dominated Poland, such is their class compared to most other teams.
I think France will be too good for England in the last 8. Senegal gave England problems in the first 30 mins.

Mixed start. Tomiyasu with a throw from 30m along the wing goes dead to no one then a slip on a backpass sees Gonda parry on a tight angle. Now Japan go across goal with Croatia clearing.

If Croatia do win, they will be cooked against (probably) Brazil who are easing through. Modric poor in the first half but has been coming slightly better.

Really hate spider cam for pens. It's front on sure but the side view is just what we've been used to

Bloody hell Japan out by execution style that. Shoot out felt over very quickly. I'll have to watch again to adjudge the pens and save quality.

Even though Croatia (along with Australia) is my team, they played poorly and need to do way better next game.
