Translation: We're all doing this for the money because our league is financially in the shitter and 9 figures given by various entities is all gone so we have to scrape up some money from somewhere. Fuck me drunk, this is worse than we all thought.

I don't think this one is an emergency meeting but rather a regular meeting that happened to have been scheduled for this Thursday. Just means what would have been a pretty run of the mill meeting may now be a bit fiery.

+xHave many other players spoken out? Its more money to the Franchises. PFA aren't going to stop that over an issue that's no worse than the myriad of other Competition manipulation that has happened through the years

Looks like City’s communications team read the post on this thread suggesting they claim this is necessary for the league’s survival. Then thought they’d play the victim with “oh, and our players are being abused.” Pathetic.

GFs have been moved for Cash before Fixture Lists have been rigged for more ticket Revenue Franchises have been able to sell their Home fixtures Regional rounds have been thin disguises for commercial tests Lopsided Schedules are designed to boost income Ridiculous kickoff times at the behest of TV execs Yet the moving of a single fixture that only 1 set of 7,000 fans might be a bit miffed about has finally woken up the dopey A-league consumers to the way they are always treated.

‘Our players have been personally abused and this is unacceptable’ Then give us DT’s personal email or mobile number instead so we can abuse him directly?! Melbourne Shitty can get fucked for voting yes for this debacle

+x+xthe contract is probably signed and irreversible so i dont see how this conflict resolves without the entire apl board stepping down You can get out of any contract. You come to an agreement or pay compo, or have a good lawyer who put in a great caveat. There is a cooling off period of five days with the contract, they can cancel the agreement tomorrow.

You make out like the things you have listed have never pissed off A-League fans before and the anger at the recent announcement has come out of thin air. For many this is the final straw. Pretty dishonest attempt at a contrarian view imo.

The only good statement (kind of) to come out of it is Western United's one, the rest have been average to disappointing.

Twice in my business life two different people gave me the same advice years apart.... it went something like this... if you think about something in a certain way unless you have something wrong with you many others will feel the same.....i.e a good looking person goes by and you think thats a good looking person....maybe wearing smart clothes...so if you think so many others will as well....
Auburn, Blacktown Demons, The Northern Spirit have all been Football teams I have followed still with a soft spot for Blacktown now city.... for various reasons mostly administrative I moved on ....
The grand final system was a carry over from the NSL... it could be 40 years of tradition being sold for silver coins...
Reverse the decision for the sake of the game DT can stand his ground but like Lowy before him fans can walk....

+x+xIt seems inconceivable to me that all clubs were not informed and/or consulted before the decision was made . Yet none spoke out in the media , until after the announcement and after it all hit the fan ? Its very "Frank Lowian" eh Paulie? It sure is

Great article here. https://amp.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/if-there-was-a-world-cup-for-self-sabotage-australian-soccer-would-be-champions-20221214-p5c65g.htmlOPINION
If there was a World Cup for self-sabotage, Australian soccer would be champions.
Vince Rugari
Reporter
December 14, 2022 — 5.37pm
The day after the Socceroos were knocked out of the World Cup, left-back Aziz Behich said the players had done their part, and that it was over to the sport’s administrators to capitalise on the incredible momentum created by their accomplishments in Qatar.
“This should be a massive stepping stone for football in Australia to go forward. I can’t see why it shouldn’t,” said Behich, one of 20 current or former A-League products in Graham Arnold’s squad.
“It should be a no-brainer, really.”
The next three A-League grand finals for men and women will be held in Sydney - if the competition survives that long. GETTY
Well, here we are, 10 days on from the Socceroos’ last dance in Doha, and pretty much every stakeholder in the sport is sitting back, totally aghast at how it could have possibly come to this.

I'm surprised the final straw is the same for so many I wonder if its because thus such a cold spoon to the WC hard-ons that many have been clinging to.

They’re all eady trying to blame this on the FFA handing them a mess, which is the lamest of blame-shifting “we had no choice” excuses.
if they’re so broke, where’d the Silverlake money go?

From the article above. According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the three-year deal with the NSW government is worth just under $12 million in cash – a drop in the ocean compared to the huge sums the clubs have blown since COVID-19, but welcome relief that will help struggling clubs keep the lights on. They can’t use the $140 million in private equity money provided by Silver Lake to cover their losses, as it’s there to spend on growth strategies.

yes good article, I'm sorry for the more aligned devotees of the AL/ALM but I'm glad this has surfaced and lit the fire amongst supporters all round, especially after the Cup success and spotlight, its brought them out front and centre. Why we end up having admin after admin not consider whats best for game from supporter levels up astounds me nothing is ever learnt by the suits. 8 of the 12 Clubs supported this, should never forget that and kudos the 4 that didn't. As for the FA I had faith in JJ originally but even he is tripping over himself AND not standing up as the figurehead of our game. They are all culpable.

Fuck me drunk, this is worse than we all thought. No it 'really' isnt been saying the AL is not a sustainable competition for a decade - need to get rid of the cap and the floor and open the competition and it needs youth development to engage with communities. How can anyone thing teams with 2-7k crowds are sustainable?? clubs needs at least 10-15k a game to be self sufficient in the current (shit) model we have why do you think im always saying i like the AL but the model it is under is f--ken shit

The A League has been sloughing towards a reckoning for at least 5 years now. This may be be it.

https://wswanderersfc.com.au/news/wanderers-statement-2WANDERERS STATEMENTTo all Wanderers members and fans, We acknowledge and understand the frustration and disappointment that many of you feel around the recent announcement for the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) to host the next three A-League Mens and Womens Grand Finals in Sydney. As a club who has played many of its biggest matches at away venues, these moments shared by those at the match and back home in our community are cherished and will forever be etched in our memories. No matter where we have played, the Red & Black faithful have always made us feel like we are at home. However, the commercial reality for football in this country is still precarious. We have just experienced two of the worst years in the history of football due to the impacts of the global pandemic – COVID-19. This unprecedented global event has affected our community as a whole and decimated the livelihood of professional football clubs. This Grand Final agreement creates a necessary step towards ensuring our game has a sustainable future. The APL Board decision is for the benefit of every club in the League. We believe our members and fans are the lifeblood of our club and always will be. With that understanding comes a greater responsibility to ensure the long-term viability of the sport we all love so everyone can enjoy it and see it thrive for years to come.

What these fuckheads ignore is that Townsend literally said at the end of the 3 years we want other cities to come and bid for it and take it away from Sydney. So fuck 'tradition' we'll just whore it out to whoever gives us the most money. Never again will we see a wall of orange that we saw for the 3 grand finals in Brisbane. (Or other colours at other grand finals.) Does that mean nothing to these bunch of cunce? I hope the reap what they sow.

That article did mention (without quotes though) that Chanel 10 are furious. My trouble is: a) i paid a year in advance for Paramount and b) i have already paid to attend every game this season. Me cancelling or boycotting literally does nothing. The other issues is my club is one of only 4 to vote against it in the end so feel a bit torn as well. If there is momentum and people are still talking about this in our first home game since the world cup AFTER CHRISTMAS I will join the red army in the walk out even if nobody notices from my fancy seats aha
